Umio Gen
UMIO GEN (photo in other thread)
22(4)-22-13 1 NC Gen was a Korean born boxer that fought for Japan's Imperial Boxing Club and was later managed by Jes Cortez. Gen possessed great courage, speed and footwork but was completely lacking in power. Newspaper accounts called his style one of "boring in" relentlessly on opponents. From 1934 to 1937 he fought exclusively in the Far East (Japan, Korea and the Philippines) amassing a record of 15-6-5 1NC. During this period he won the Japanese Bantamweight and Featherweight Titles In August of 1937, Gen traveled to America where he engaged in 21 bouts over an eighteen month period. The results were not good with Gen going 3-12-6 on his US swing. Nineteen of his bouts went the distance and his opponent list read like a who's who list including Kid Covelli, Pablo Dano, Baby Arizmendi, Pete DeGrasse, Tony Chavez and Billy Buxton. Some have said that with his skills, beter management would have made him a sure contender. Following his decision loss to Clever Henry in Honolulu, Gen headed back to Japan where he fought 10 more bouts before retiring for good in 1946.

JO TEIKEN - Korean Bantamweight
JO TEIKEN (also spelled Joe) [photo in other thread]
Born Jung-Kwon Suh in Chunranamdo, Korea 46(13)-26-17 3 NC Teiken traveled to Tokoyo at the age of 17 to attend Meiji University and soon took up boxing with his pro debut coming in 1931 at the age of 18. Jo fought well in Tokoyo amassing a record of 18-0-8. He was a defensively gifted boxer with a strong chin (only stopped twice in 91 career bouts). Unfortunately, prospects of a title shot in Japan werre slim due to his Korean heritage. In 1932, Jo traveled to America hoping for a title shot and more money. Unfortunately niether materialized. Jo did fight for the California title and lost to Speedy Dado and was involved in bantamweight elimination tournament for the vacated title. While in the U.S., he won impressively agaist Speedy Dado (non-title bout), Small Montana, and Star Frisco. In 1935, Teiken headed back to Japan where he laced the gloves up for eleven more bouts before calling it quits. His only notable fight in this period was a bout with Piston Horiguchi who handed Jo his second career stoppage by way of a fourth round TKO.

Strawweight
The Strawweight division is very thin in the game. I have created a few tomato can / stiff packs to fill out bottom of the division and am now working on filling in some of the better fighters that have been left out of the game. I worked these three up tonight:
Napa Kiatwanchai Eagle Kyowa Wandee Singwancha All three were WBC Champions that have yet to be rated

Here is my first contribution. Hopefully it is somewhat accurate but feel free to offer constructive criticism. Al Mobley, welterweight who fought from 1944-56. Lost to Sugar Ray Robinson and Ike Williams.

JESUS VARGAS
1(0)-5-1 Vargas' only win was against a career one-timer named Juan Zepeda. For some reason, he was given an NABF title bout with Isaac Bustos. The match was declared a technical draw after two rounds and a rematch was scheduled two months later. Vargas was able to take Bustos the distance in a losing effort and retired shortly after.
