"Nordhagen Beach has put itself in a better position in the Brotherhood League with two straight winning weekends. One note about the Party Boys that should be encouraging is that the bullpen ERA (4.54) has now moved to 2nd in the Brotherhood League, and closer Sia Abber now leads the BL in saves (7). While the starting pitching mostly struggles, Julian Shed and Tommy Beach had solid starts."
I think my glasses must be malfunctioning! When I first read the above, I thought it said Nordhagen Beach has put itself in a better position... which obviously can't be true. Especially as the team you mention has the leading closer in the league. Who are these guys, and what have you done with the real Party Boys, fed them to the mirelurks? |

May 2297 - News and Notes - May 31
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 31 May 2296 - Howard Calls for Player Discipline CBO Commissioner Nate Howard has made contact with all 24 organizations calling for players to be more self-aware when it comes to interactions with the general public and awareness of the dangers of wasteland creatures. In a press conference held this morning, Nate addressed what he called a "poor" May: "By my count, we had over 10 negative events in the month of May. This cannot continue. We are a young league with a limited amount of talent presently. Losing 10 players to preventable accidents, animal encounters, etc., is something that will not help to sustain the league, and I may need to consider contracting the league if we continue at this rate. "I am asking that every team of the CBO use this time to stress personal management, integrity, proper behavior, and self-preservation. I would love to see a month where we have no preventable incidents. Yes, I understand some things cannot be prevented. There is always a wayward bloodbug or a tough guy angry about not getting his shot to play ball. But a player attacking another person? A player playing with dangerous animals? Those are preventable. "I ask that teams tighten up their player surveillance. I ask that players not travel alone or in too small of a group. I ask that players work to be ambassadors for the good we are doing in the Commonwealth. Thank you. Let's have a great June!" 31 May 2296 - Players of the Week Week's #1 Player Honored by BL: Lernz Tentsleep has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 19-year-old shortstop of the The Slog Ghouls had a hot bat in the Brotherhood League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Tentsleep batted .615 with 8 hits in 13 at-bats, 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. So far this season, Tentsleep has recorded a .366 batting average with 41 hits, 8 home runs, 30 RBIs, 27 runs scored and a .398 OBP. IL's Star Player Named: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Institute League, but last week Dan Erb of the Concord Radstags reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Erb rocked opposing pitching for a .692 average (9-for-13), no home runs and 5 RBIs to come away with the award. In his season totals Erb has 5 home runs and a .411 batting average. Seaweed Nabs ML Weekly Award: So far in his young career, David Seaweed has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Minutemen League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 19-year-old Jamaica Plain Red Rockets right fielder hit at a torrid .667 clip as he collected 8 hits in 12 at-bats, 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Currently Seaweed is batting .347 with 34 hits and 4 home runs. He has knocked in 19 runs and scored 20 times. Hose Wallcrawler Wins RL Trophy: One of the league's most exciting young players, Hose Wallcrawler of the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai earned himself Railroad League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 19-year-old shortstop had a lofty .714 average (10-for-14), collecting 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and 6 runs scored. In 24 games Wallcrawler is hitting .448 this season with 43 hits, 10 home runs, 37 RBIs, 16 walks, .530 OBP and has scored 28 runs.

June 2297 - News and Notes - June 1
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 1 June 2297 - Players of the Month Brotherhood League BL's #1 Batter Chosen: Lernz Tentsleep made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Brotherhood League this past month. The The Slog Ghouls shortstop shined through the month of May and has won the Batter of the Month award. The 19-year-old hit .414 with 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored. BL #1 Pitcher in May is The Slog's Kiwi: In May, when the name of David Kiwi appeared on the The Slog lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 4 times and chalked up 4 wins and no losses. With those stats it was also a virtual lock that he would be named the Brotherhood League Pitcher of the Month. Kiwi shackled opposing batters on 31 base hits and a .244 batting average. He rang up 20 strikeouts in 34.2 innings of work, surrendered 8 walks and fashioned a sparkling 1.56 ERA. Salem Reliever Best Rookie: Max Grove might not have fully digested the impact of winning May's Brotherhood League Rookie of the Month award when he got the news earlier today, but the 17-year-old quickly learned that he was no longer your typical rookie. Posting a mark of 2-0 won-lost record will do that. In 0 starts he tossed 11.1 innings with 8 strikeouts and a 3.18 ERA. Opposing teams hit .233 against him during the month. Not bad for a first-year man. Institute League Concord's Erb Winner, IL Best Hitter in May: Concord Radstags fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in May. Dan Erb put up a remarkable month at the age of 20 and has been named the Institute League Batter of the Month. For the month, Erb hit .490 with 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 13 runs scored. Institute League Announces Best Starter: Chris Radsco hasn't been around long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Institute League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In May the Concord starter earned a 2-1 mark in 4 starts. He threw 29.2 innings, struck out 38 and compiled a solid 2.43 ERA. IL Best Newcomer Trophy Awarded: May's Rookie of the Month Award in the Institute League went to T-Bone Heagy of Abernathy. He was outstanding in 0 starts last month as he notched 1 win and no losses, a 1.29 ERA and 6 strikeouts in 7 innings. Minutemen League Mungo Grabs ML Best Batter Award for May: Carlos Mungo may be getting older, but he's evidently not slowing down. The Goodneighbor Hancocks catcher is the Minutemen League Batter of the Month for May after posting a stellar campaign. Mungo batted .432, hit 1 home run, drove in 13 runs, scored 14 times and compiled a .544 on-base percentage. Iddings Gets May's Top Pitcher Trophy: Bruce Iddings has made fans throughout Minutemen League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 3-1 record. No pitcher in the Minutemen League threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today. In 4 starts Iddings compiled a 3.09 ERA, putting up a 3-1 record, striking out 40 and tossing 32 innings. Kovalenko Grades Out as May's Top Rookie: One of the bright young starters in the Minutemen League, Dave Kovalenko is living up to the potential that Mirelurks scouts thought might be there. As a starter for Warwick, Kovalenko paced his team with a 3-1 record in May to earn himself Rookie of the Month accolades. He made 5 starts, tossed 37.1 innings, struck out 29 batters and allowed the opposition to hit .221 against him. Railroad League Wallcrawler Garners RL Batter of the Month Award: At only 19 years of age, Hose Wallcrawler could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career. That would be great news for fans of the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai, as May was one to remember for the shortstop and he has captured the Railroad League Batter of the Month award. On the month he hit .442 with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Udder Stands Out, Choice for Best Pitcher: Matt Udder took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Railroad League Pitcher of the Month award for May. The 26-year-old T-51s starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 3-1 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 23 batters in 34.1 innings and compiled a 4.19 ERA. RL Picks Rookie of the Month: It was an awesome May for Jake Jennings. The young Diamond City starter surprised opponents all month and today was announced as the Railroad League Rookie of the Month. In 0 starts he registered a 1-0 record and racked up 15 strikeouts and a 3.71 ERA in 17 innings.

June 2297 - News and Notes - BMU Monthly Report
Dark Hollow Pond League (BL)
Standings and Stats Batter of the Month Great May Gets Salvage DHPL Best Hitter Award: Justin Salvage is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the General Atomics Galleria first baseman joined that select company when the Dark Hollow Pond League announced the results of May's voting. Salvage totaled 17 hits, 6 walks, 6 home runs, 15 RBIs and 12 runs scored last month to put together a .425 batting average and .489 on-base percentage. Pitcher of the Month Night People Demps Named DHPL's Best Pitcher: There's something about a young rookie winning the Dark Hollow Pond League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Aaron Demps, a 17-year-old starter for the Greentop Nursery Night People. In May, he topped off the month with a 4-0 mark and 1.46 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 37 innings, fanned 39 and held opposing teams to a .232 average. Cambridge League (IL) Standings and Stats Batter of the Month College Square's Love Snags May Batting Title: Jason Love may be much younger than other hitters in the Cambridge League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in May to win the Batter of the Month award. The 19-year-old College Square left fielder hit .308 with 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored. Pitcher of the Month Cecil Tabbed as May's Starter of the Month: Over the past month Phil Cecil has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Cambridge League. He proved all that and now he's been named May's Pitcher of the Month. The rookie for the College Square Nerd Ragers posted 5-0 mark and a 1.88 ERA. In 5 starts he tossed 43 innings, permitted 35 hits and fanned 53 batters. Downtown Boston League (ML) Standings and Stats Batter of the Month DBL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Breggs: Josh Breggs put together a good May to earn the Downtown Boston League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Trinity Plaza officials that he belongs on the big league roster. The Snipers left fielder posted a .578 batting average with 1 home run, 10 RBIs and 15 runs scored. Pitcher of the Month Tassin Cops #1 Pitcher Award in May: In May, Isaiah Tassin tore through the Downtown Boston League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 19 years old. The young Cabot House starter posted a 4-0 mark and an ERA of 1.55 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 29 innings he collected 34 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .186 average. Glowing Sea League (RL) Standings and Stats Batter of the Month Dealer Takes Best Bat Trophy in May: Matt Dealer has a lot going for him. The Fiddler's Green left fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Glowing Sea League has just picked him as its top hitter for May. In 13 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .561 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 8 runs scored. Pitcher of the Month Powers May's Best Hurler in GSL: Tyler Powers will be bringing May's Glowing Sea League Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Eastlake. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping. Powers started 5 games, going 4-1 with 30 strikeouts in 37 innings as he compiled his 2.92 ERA.

I know it's Haymarket Mall - Commandos, but I mentally read Haymarket - Mall Commandos and pictured a bunch of middle aged people with beer guts in tactical fatigues "raiding" a mall for the best deals in town.

Getting the save was Freedom Williams, his 3rd. It could have been a different outcome for Atom, had it not been for Jeremy Schoolboy, the top prospect . Schoolboy contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the sixth inning to put Atom up, 4-3. Goodneighbor 6 at University Point 7, 10 inn. The University Point Deathclaws beat the Goodneighbor Hancocks, 7-6, at Gwinnett Brewery Park. Aaron Nukacola, in particular, was impressive. He went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits for the Bloodbugs. Levy had a big at-bat with the bases empty in the top of the fourth inning, when he hit a solo home run. The Bloodbugs went on to win. "It feels good to get this one," Levy told the County Crossing Today. The win lifted the County Crossing record to 14-12. Other Scores: The Slog 11 at Salem 2 Lernz Tentsleep was a major factor in the 11-2 The Slog win over Salem. The Ghouls shortstop went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times. David Kiwi earned the win to go to 6-0. He allowed 2 runs on 12 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in 8 innings of work. With the win, The Slog pushed its record to 17-9. C.T. Woodard, the top prospect , had a direct impact on the outcome. Woodard contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put The Slog up, 3-2. They ended up scoring four more runs in the inning and added four more in the ninth. Easy Town 11 at Nordhagen Beach 1 Easy Town right fielder Dan Squirrel helped his team beat the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 11-1. Squirrel, who finished 3rd in the BL in hits with 104 last year, went 3 for 4 for the Assaultrons. David Tech got the win, improving to 3-3. He worked 8 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 2. With the win, Easy Town raised its record to 13-13. With Easy Town leading 3-0 in the top of the third, Squirrel hit a changeup from Tommy Beach for a 3-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Assaultrons ahead, 6-0. 4 June 2296 - IL: Acosta Now 5-2 After Subduing Radstags Fort Hagen starter All Day Acosta had a strong outing against the Concord Radstags at Hubris Comics Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 6-1 win. With this game in the books, Fort Hagen is 11-15, Concord 12-14. Acosta, the Fort Hagen right-hander, went 8.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. He collected 6 strikeouts. "If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Acosta told the Fort Hagen Bulletin. On the mound for Lexington was right-hander Lawdog Whipple, who played a pivotal role in the win. Lexington reliever Ted Iam picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tim Fusion was saddled with the loss. Lexington raised its record to 14-12 with the win. Lexington took a 6-4 lead on Mike Davidson's 2nd double of the season. While enjoying post-game brews in his team's 5-4, 10-inning loss, Trigger and other players unknowingly were in the presence of a chameleon deathclaw. Because of the creature's ability to camouflage its skin to match the environment, the Flamers almost got snuffed out. A security guard at Mystic Pines noticed a strange movement near the players and called out for them to clear out. As they started to evade the danger, the creature took a cinematic pause to roar out its anger and hunger. That is when the Mystic Pines security officers opened a can of firebombs right into the belly of the beast. There was one injury in the chaos. Trigger got himself in the line of fire for a second, taking a bullet to the shoulder. The would is not considered to be life-threatening, but he will miss the rest of the series for treatment. On the season, the rookie from Bradberton is batting .239 with 0 home runs and 13 RBI out of the 8-hole. The Flamers are now 11-11, while the Raybathers (STAR) are 12-12. 4 June 2297 - ML: Gunners Tagged with 6-3 Loss The Warwick Mirelurks racked up a win at The Homestead, bumping off the Quincy Gunners, 6-3. Justin Sphinx, who started for Warwick, pitched effectively for his team. Sphinx picked up the win for Warwick, going 7 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 5-4. The win elevated the Mirelurks to 16-10. The Mirelurks got a big at-bat from second baseman Brad Krol. For the game, Krol went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave Warwick a 5-2 lead. "I had pretty good command out there," said Sphinx. Other Scores: Atom 3 at Jamaica Plain 5 Jamaica Plain Red Rockets starter Will Rope was in fine form against the Atom Cats at Red Rockets Stadium, leading his team to a win, 5-3. Rope, the winner, moves to 3-3. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 3 walks. Steven Rockman collected his 6th save. Alan Setter, who is tied for 5th in the ML in triples with 2, aided the Jamaica Plain cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third. For the game, the second baseman was 1 for 4. Goodneighbor 3 at University Point 7 The University Point Deathclaws topped the Goodneighbor Hancocks by the score of 7-3, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Kory Richardson. Richardson was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Deathclaws. The win has University Point at 10-16. Goodneighbor had a runner on 1st in the top of the sixth. With no one out, James Kimbrough came to bat, hoping to do some damage. Instead, he hit into a double play. The score remained 2-0, University Point. The Hancocks saw their comeback bid fail. 4 June 2297 - RL: Wallcrawler Hits 2 home runs in Yao Guai Win The Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai beat the Vault 81 Dwellers, 8-5, at CURIE Inc. Field. The win was due in part to shortstop Hose Wallcrawler, who slugged 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. The victory gives Fairline Hill Estates a record of 13-13. Fairline Hill Estates first baseman Nick Waterpipe delivered a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. Overall, he went 3 for 5, including 1 home run, 1 single, and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and batted in 3. "It's a good day to be a fan after a win like that," Waterpipe told BNN. Other Scores: Diamond City 5 at Oberland 6 Jeffrey Curatolo had a good game, but he could not keep the Diamond City Swatters from falling, 6-5, to the Oberland T-51s at Graygarden Park. The Diamond City first baseman slugged 2 home runs in the loss. Oberland pitcher Matt Udder got the win. He's now 6-1. Mark Stuhlsatz was tagged with the loss. The first-place T-51s have won 5 in a row. Ryan Wegott had a clutch at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for the T-51s. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Oberland trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single. Egret 5 at Shaw 6 The Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers bested the Egret Scrappers by a score of 6-5, thanks to a 6-run eighth inning. Second baseman Tony Acosta gets the main credit. On the day, Acosta went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Knuckle Punchers. The 5th-place Knuckle Punchers improved to 11-15. Matt Ratican, who is tied for 10th in the RL with a .367 batting average, chipped in for Shaw HS with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.

June 2297 - News and Notes - June 4, Part 2
Oops. I forgot to check news stories before posting. Two more stories for Friday. Can't leave Bugwing and Lurkcakes off the menu!
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 4 June 2297 - Bugwing Hits in 25 Straight Games Stoop Bugwing collected 2 hits in today's game and extended his hitting streak to 25 games. His club, the The Slog Ghouls, beat the Salem Witch Hats 11-2. "Right now, when they throw me the ball, it looks the size of a softball," Bugwing quipped to a BNN reporter after the game. "I'm excited about how things are clicking." Stoop Bugwing singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Front Porch Potter in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and struck out in the 9th. This year Bugwing has hit at a .422 clip with 32 RBIs, 5 home runs and 18 runs scored. 4 June 2297 - 20-Game Hitting Streak for Lurkcakes The streak is alive and well -- at least for today. Random Lurkcakes did it again, bashing 1 hit in the contest at The Homestead today. For the last 20 games in a row, the 26-year-old first baseman has collected at least one hit. His efforts helped the Warwick Mirelurks beat the Quincy Gunners 6-3 today. "I'm happy I kept the streak going," Lurkcakes told a standing-room-only crowd of reporters gathered in the Warwick clubhouse. "Honestly though, I'm looking forward to going home and not thinking about this for the rest of the day." Random Lurkcakes grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th. This season Lurkcakes has hit at a .402 clip with 14 RBIs, 0 home runs and 14 runs scored.

June 2297 - News and Notes - June 5
I got a brand new computer which can hopefully handle the load. I was getting to the point where I would have to type and wait. It was annoying. I am going to wipe that older laptop and give it to my kid for virtual school. Anyway, I think everything is loaded now. On to Game 3 of the weekend!
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 5 June 2297 - BL: Bloodbugs Drop 10-5 Decision to Four Leafs The Finch Farm Four Leafs beat the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 10-5, at Finch Family Park. Ginger Rogers, in particular, was impressive. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. With the win, Finch Farm pushed its record to 14-13. Gary "Gary" Gary hit a 2-run double off Boss Gentleman in the bottom of the second, which put the Four Leafs in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Gary had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 3. "The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Wiley Boat said. Other Scores: The Slog 7 at Salem 5 The Slog and Salem duked it out and the Ghouls came out victorious. The Slog shortstop Lernz Tentsleep helped his team beat the Salem Witch Hats, 7-5. Tentsleep, who leads the BL in RBI with 35, went 2 for 4 for the Ghouls. Danny Sloghill came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Tentsleep had a timely hit for The Slog in the top of the eighth. With Salem trailing 5-4, he turned a 1-1 forkball into a 3-run home run. It was his 9th home run of the season, making it 7-5, The Slog. Easy Town 6 at Nordhagen Beach 2 Easy Town starter Smoker Caliman pitched well against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-2. Caliman, the winner, moves to 6-2. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up no walks. The victory gives Easy Town a record of 14-13. Easy Town used the clutch hitting of Joe Ransom to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Assaultrons ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one. 5 June 2297 - Bugwing Put in Cooler, Hitless Against Salem The Slog third baseman Stoop Bugwing went 0-for-4 today in The Slog's 7-5 triumph over the Salem Witch Hats, snapping his 25-game hitting streak. Bugwing spoke to BNN after the game and said he "knew the hitting streak would end sooner or later." "I just would have preferred later," he said with a laugh. "It was fun though." When Bugwing made an out in his last chance at the plate, his teammates congratulated him in the dugout. In the clubhouse after the game, he seemed unbothered by the streak ending. "There's nothing scientific about it, that's for sure," Witch Hats manager Proper Lighthouse said of Bugwing's streak. "He had a nice little run. Let him start another one when we finish the series here." In 2297 Bugwing has hit at a .408 clip with 49 hits, 5 home runs, 32 RBIs and has scored 18 times. 5 June 2297 - IL: Erb Helps Concord Outscore Fort Hagen Led by Dan Erb, the Concord Radstags downed the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 15-10. Erb was 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 5 runs and driving in 3 for the Radstags. Concord's record now stands at 13-14, placing them third in the Institute League. Erb had a key at-bat for Concord early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a run-scoring double. It was his 10th double of the season and gave Concord an early 1-0 lead. "It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Mark Gourdroot. Other Scores: Abernathy 5 at Starlight 8 Joel Mutfruit had a good game, but he could not keep the Abernathy Adamantium from falling, 8-5, to the Starlight Lady Killers at Valentine Detective Agency Field. The Abernathy third baseman went 1-2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once in the loss. Spider Caddell, credited with the win, is now 3-0. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit. Larry Undertaker, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 12th save. The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Jesus Church came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Abernathy pitcher Bryan Punchline, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Starlight on top, 6-5. Sunshine Tidings 5 at Lexington 6 The Lexington Synths topped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists by the score of 6-5, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Crooked Tostado. Tostado went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Synths. With the win, Lexington raised its record to 15-12. Tostado had a timely hit for Lexington in the bottom of the eighth. With Sunshine Tidings trailing 5-4, he turned a first pitch changeup into a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season, making it 6-5, Lexington. 5 June 2297 - ML: Krol slugs 2 home runs, Mirelurks Move to 17-10 The Warwick Mirelurks relied on the hitting of second baseman Brad Krol to stop the Quincy Gunners, 4-1. For the game, Krol slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Jayden Fleming got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Pem Pollack finished the game for Warwick and earned his 8th save. With Warwick leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Krol hit a fastball from Ray Human for a 2-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Mirelurks ahead, 4-1. "Nice to see our side come away with the win," Krol said after the game. Warwick has now won 4 in a row. Other Scores: Atom 5 at Jamaica Plain 6 The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets topped the Atom Cats, 6-5, at Red Rockets Stadium. Jamaica Plain right fielder David Seaweed banged out 2 singles and 1 double, while driving in 1 runs. Jamaica Plain starter Chad Adamczyk was credited with the win after throwing 110 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 3-5. Steven Rockman picked up the save for Jamaica Plain, his 7th of the year. In the bottom of the second, Hid Matsumoto hit a 3-run home run. The 6th home run of the season for the Jamaica Plain center fielder put the Red Rockets on top, 3-2. Goodneighbor 10 at University Point 7 A seven-run bottom of the ninth propelled the Deathclaws over the first-place Goodneighbor Hancocks. Right fielder Kory Richardson was 2-4 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the University Point Deathclaws. University Point has now won 3 straight, while the Hancocks have lost 3 in a row. The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With University Point trailing 10-9, Richardson hit a fastball from Matt Rodrigue for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Deathclaws had a walk-off win. 5 June 2297 - Gunners End Lurkcakes's Streak The hitting streak that Warwick first baseman Random Lurkcakes had kept going for 20 games was ended today by the Quincy Gunners. Lurkcakes was stymied over 3 at-bats today, but the rest of his team picked him up, taking the 4-1 victory at The Homestead. "Hitting streaks come and go," Lurkcakes said. "It did put a little pressure on me. It's hard to be natural at the plate with something like that always in the back of your mind. If it had to end, I'm glad it was in a win." This year Lurkcakes has collected a .391 batting average to date with 45 hits in 115 at-bats, 14 RBIs, no home runs and scored 14 times. He has played in 27 games. 5 June 2297 - RL: Waterpipe Leads Yao Guai to 10-7 Win Over Dwellers The performance of Nick Waterpipe proved critical in helping Fairline Hill Estates beat Vault 81, 10-7. The Yao Guai first baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. With the victory, the Yao Guai upped their record to 14-13. With Fairline Hill Estates leading 2-0 in the top of the second, Waterpipe hit a slider from Godfather Hough for a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Yao Guai ahead, 6-0. "I just tried to make good contact," said Waterpipe. Other Scores: Diamond City 4 at Oberland 7 The radstorm made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves. The Oberland T-51s defeated the Diamond City Swatters, 7-4. Doing his part was center fielder B.J. Perez, who was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Gerald Jerry, the winner, goes to 4-1. He allowed no runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 1 strikeout over 6 innings. Aaron Still earned the save for Oberland, his 8th of the year. The T-51s had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 7-4, Oberland, with one out. Diamond City, with runners on 1st and 3rd, was mounting a threat. Nasty Byrd dug in at the plate, but on a 1-2 changeup, he struck out. Egret 3 at Shaw 4 The Egret Scrappers got a superb performance from pitcher Ronnie Gipper, but the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers still won the game, 4-3. Gipper threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. The Knuckle Punchers move to 12-15 with the win, while the Scrappers drop to 13-14. Chris Jones was the walk-off hero for Shaw HS. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Knuckle Punchers pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

Sweet, new computer. Mind sharing it's specs?
I already have a beefy computer (8 core 3.40 processor) but my taxes *finally* processed Friday and I'm thinking about finally upgrading my graphics card, which is woefully lagging behind. (GTX 750 Ti) |

2297 Week 9 - The Week in Review
Analysis
When looking at the hottest teams in each league, there are obvious and then there is one huge surprise. That surprise for which team has been hottest over its last ten games comes in the Minutemen League. The team? The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets! In their short history (nearly a year-and-a-half as a team, like every other team), the Red Rockets have not been successful at all. That is why they picked #2 overall in the 2296 Rookie Draft, meaning they had the second-worst record in the CBO. That has not exactly changed in 2297, but the Jamaica Plain record over the last 10 games is 7-3, moving them from solidly last when they were 4-13 to a tie with University Point at 11-16. For the record, the Deathclaws needed a miracle win in Saturday's game to knock off first-placed (tie) Goodneighbor. There are no reasons to think that Jamaica Plain will pull itself into playoffs contention, but it is always good to see the little guy grab a few wins. Before last weekend's series, the Abernathy Adamantium were the hottest team in all of the CBO. After running into the force of 2297 that is the Starlight Lady Killers, the Adamantium have been humbled some. Still, the Adamantium are 8-2 in their last 10 and in great position to be in the playoff race. Lexington (15-12) and Concord (13-14) currently stand in their way, but Radio Short and Jim Waples are both hitting the ball like crazy, meaning IL pitchers have to fear Abernathy every game. The hottest teams in the Brotherhood and Railroad leagues give off the ho-hum feelings. The Slog (18-9, 7-3 in their last 10) keeps chipping off more and more games each week. The Ghouls are in first place by four games, ahead of a three-way tie for second place in Finch Farm, County Crossing, and Easy Town. The Slog does everything well, so it would look like they will start to pull away from the rest and look to be in good shape to defend their title. Even further ahead, the Oberland T-51s (20-7, 7-3 in their last 10) is currently on a six-game winning streak. Opponents in the Railroad League just cannot score against the T-51s, with all three starters pitching well, and the bullpen matching (both with 3.76 ERA). Sheng Kawolski (5-2, 3.06), Gerald Jerry (4-1, 3.50), and Matt Udder 6-1 (4.80) are all ace quality. The RL looks to be on the way to being over three-quarters into the season. The rest of the race is for second. Currently, that team is the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai, but Egret, Vault 81, and Shaw are all within distance.

June 2297 - News and Notes - June 7
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 7 June 2297 - Mount Desert Island Starts Youth League Reports are that Small Bertha started her own youth league in the Mount Desert Island area. Right now there are four elite teams. Bertha stated that they would be based on the island's history of factions. There are rumors that the Far Harbor area is in the works to develop its own independent league, though Bertha has not made anything official. Leaders on the island have expressed interest, but also know they need to amp up the number of fog condensers necessary to stop baseball fields from being fogged over. In the meantime, the youth league will play the majority of its games in July and August when the fog tends to be less dense on the island. Each of the teams are based at one of the larger settlements of Mount Desert Island. The youth teams are: the Far Harbor Harborboys, the Dalton Farm Children, the Echo Lake Lumber Trappers, and the Longfellow's Cabin Acadians. All players are between 14-17. 7 June 2297 - Players of the Week Mastodon Brotherhood League's Hottest Hitter: It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Tom Mastodon, the County Crossing Bloodbugs 17-year-old left fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for Brotherhood League Player of the Week honors. He ripped 9 hits in 15 at-bats, compiling a .600 average with 1 home run and 1 RBIs. Mastodon is currently hitting at a .387 pace with 3 home runs and 13 RBIs. Nukes Selected IL Player of the Week: Amari Nukes demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Institute League Player of the Week Award. The Sunshine Tidings left fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .571 average (8-for-14) with no home runs and 1 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. Nukes is presently hitting at a .347 pace with 4 home runs, 14 RBIs and has scored 15 times. ML Player of the Week Named: 18-year-old Zachary Utsinger sent shock waves through Minutemen League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Minutemen League Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, Utsinger made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .700 average, 7 hits in 10 at-bats, no home runs and 2 runs batted in. Where the Goodneighbor Hancocks left fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Utsinger certainly made his mark last week. This season Utsinger has hit at a .385 clip with 16 RBIs, 1 home runs and 14 runs scored. He has played in 22 games. RL Star of the Week Announced: Nick Waterpipe is respected by most Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai fans for his no-frills style of play. The 27-year-old first baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Railroad League Player of the Week honors. He compiled a .571 average (8-for-14) with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and 3 runs scored. This season Waterpipe is batting .319 with 36 hits and 5 home runs. He has scored 18 times and has 24 RBI.

Get to Know Your Settlements, Owners, and Corporations
Today in the CBO Settlements Today by Nat Wright-Kowalski 8 June 2297 - Salem On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 season, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners. These will be done at Nat Wright-Kowalski's availability In our twenty-third installment of "Settlements Today," I went to the creepiest topside settlement in the Commonwealth, Salem. I call it creepy, but the settlement itself is a nice little coastal area. The creepy part is Salem's tourist attraction, the Museum of Witchcraft. Salem has a long, storied tradition that has led to much pre-War history, including books, serials, and dramas. According to a terminal entry, "Salem was once a quaint coastal town and seaport, made into a tourist destination by the infamous witch trials of 1692." To go further, according to some books saved in the Boston Public Library, "One of the most widely known aspects of Salem is its history of witchcraft allegations which started with Abigail Williams, Betty Parris, and their friends playing with a Venus glass (mirror) and egg. The infamous Salem witch trials began in 1692, and 19 people were executed by hanging as a result of the false accusations; Giles Corey was pressed to death for refusing to plead innocent or guilty, thus avoiding the noose and instead dying an innocent man. Salem is also significant in legal history as the site of the Dorothy Talbye Trial, where a mentally ill woman was hanged for murdering her daughter because Massachusetts made no distinction at the time between insanity and criminal behavior." Salem's Museum of Witchcraft - This brings in most of the income for Salem's settlement. When Nate first approached Salem, he met the sole survivor of Salem, Benny Rook. In the terminal history of post-War Salem, "After the Great War, the town's residents worked together to make it a secure settlement. Over the next two centuries, the community became known as one of the safest towns in the Commonwealth. As a consequence, the townspeople went lax in their defenses. Barney Rook begged the town council to let him train the militia, to teach the citizens how to shoot and fend for themselves. However, they thought he was just paranoid and refused him. When the mirelurks started rising out of the ocean, no one was ready. "Mr. Rook tried to save as many as he could from his roost atop his home, but for every person he saved, three were lost. After the devastation, he vowed to protect the town and has been doing so for the last couple of years alone. Because he was alone, and couldn't be everywhere at once, he set up the series of turrets around town at strategic locations, so he could stay at home most days. Salem 2288 - Nate came up on a seemingly-abandoned settlement overrun by nesting mirelurks "He recently took the turrets offline to conserve ammunition since the mirelurks were quiet lately. By late 2287, the area has become avoided by wastelanders due to Gunner activity in the area, the Church of the Children of Atom worshiping at the radioactive crater down the road and the large number of mating mirelurks in the waters all around the bay." After Nate helped clear the area, it still took a while before new settlers started arriving. The area is far away from Boston, so it takes a long time before traders come through. Caravans are more frequent these days, but there are still not a lot of chances to transport materials to make the area fully modernized. Still, settlers have been working well with the materials they do have. Salem 2297 - There be houses near them there seas - This build at: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/20313 Owner - Barney Rook Barney does not want to be in charge of everything, but that has been the expectation since the first settlers started giving him a break from his security duties. Barney Rook Even though the settlers before Nate arrived perished, the new settlers have been efficient at keeping the mirelurks at bay. The mirelurks still attempt to come to the area for an unknown reason, so the constant flow of mirelurk meat has made the town's restaurant menu choices a running joke around the Commonwealth. Despite not needing to be the town's sniper anymore, you can still see Rook walking aorund with "Reba," his favorite hunting rifle. He enjoys his time checking on the progress of the settlement, runs the baseball team's business, and spends about half of his day in the local post office sharing gossip. He loves that there are people to hang out with these days. Vim! Again Small Bertha moved closer to Far Harbor by changing her sponsorship from Sunshine Tidings to Salem. She also expressed the need to distance herself from Nuka-Cola once John-Caleb Bradberton started sponsoring the Concord Radstags. Vim! ad According to a terminal, "Vim! Pop Incorporated was founded in 1931, initially being sold as a health tonic. It wasn't as popular as Nuka-Cola, however in Maine, it was more widely consumed than its rival. Vim was even referred to as a state tradition and about to become the official state drink of Maine; however, during the process of making this official, legal situations forced the company to back off its marketing. "Vim! was going to be bought out by the Nuka-Cola Corporation before the war. Doyle Reed, the owner who held the company in his family for years, was fighting against the takeover. However, with certain financial problems being caused by the company's legal issues, the CEO was being urged to sell the company. The only legal entanglement that the public was aware of consisted of a male employee of the Vim! Factory allegedly punching a female bar patron, though many witnesses denied this. Still, the local news attached to this story and forced the company to hold back on television advertisements and product release." It looks like Small Bertha is still fighting that battle against Bradberton's company. Cola wars seem to be something like real wars.
