Lake Monsters Sink Grays Ship in OL I198

Congratulations! I had to use the generic logo because I don't have one for the Lake Monsters.

Promotion/Relegation for ST102

I decided to put these in a separate post so they'd stand out. Remember, since 16 teams will be promoted from stone, the playoff results will have no effect on who goes up. This list is final.

Sugar Hill had no pack luck this morning. Three live golds and a bronze build a Glavine. Didn't waste time and quick sold the golds, threw Glavine in the AH where he may return 2k.

The Gang will do a little window shopping in the auction house later today.

Hmmm...

I'm almost reluctant to tell this story on myself, but it strikes me as too rich to keep to myself. I pulled a Ryan Howard that I wanted to try as a platoon at first, but couldn't make fit onto the roster. Then I recalled that many teams go with four starters in the PT playoffs, so I figure I'd get at least a three game look at it (unless there are three lefty starters). So I moved Carl Hubbell to the bullpen, and optioned Jason Schmidt to accommodate the change. It was then I noticed, for the first time, that the divisional round doesn't start until a week after the end of the season, enabling me to just go to the top of my rotation. Gimme a break! I've only been playing this team since PT 19. Ah, the wonders of old age.

should have 11 teams in Iron next season and 5 in Bronze (assuming Vegas and Chandler remain at Bronze next year).... have to wait and see how many Rookie teams move up to Stone (and hopefully we can pull Inland Empire into the mix this time as well)... don't forget the three new clubs as well when updating your friend's lists

Waffletown had a solid sophomore season, finishing at 96-66, but only good enough for a wild card spot as Port Ruppert claimed the division crown with a 100-62 record.

On the final day of the season, the Syrups nabbed some top notch players (finished the last Live mission); and while previous management eschewed bringing in new players for the post season (living by the mantra of "dance with the ones that brung ya"), current management doesn't have the same outlook; so Cy Young, Justin Verlander and Alan Trammell will be joining the club for the playoff push.

After a terrible week - from bad luck to having to use the same roster all week to being swept from an OL crown in 3 straight - I'm really hoping this is my lowest spot for the year. A slight change in approach is probably warranted.

Perception is a strange thing. It displays a scenario to you that is based on averages - not necessarily fact. Let me apply this to PT.

Let's say I earn 20 packs a week. Logic tells me that if I open them as I get them, I might receive a usable card(s) days before I would had I waited till the end of the week. Let's see how perception plays into this...

If I open the packs as I get them - lets say 2 a day for 10 days - and there are two diamonds in the packs, there will be two days out of ten I will be elated, and 8 days I will be depressed. However, if I wait to open all 20 packs on the last day, I will uncover 2 diamonds and be elated.

In one case I will be depressed 80% of the time, and in the other I will be elated 100% of the time (except in those cases I get nothing in either case but that would be a wash).

See? Perception is weird. LOL

Now that you've stuck with me and are wondering what kind of weirdo I am, I think I have come to the conclusion to spend my week accumulating PPs and packs, and wait till the weekend to open up everything at once. It might put me a few days to a week behind where I could be, but I think I'll spend less time being depressed

So, going into this week with the same rosters on all three teams - let's see what happens...

Patriots are going on indefinite auto-pilot as I've decided to turn my attention elsewhere. I will keep my team in OL and everyone can wave at them as they pass by.

Maybe next year's game will hold my interest for more than a few weeks.

We were floundering until we pulled a Charlie Buffington and a Joe Gordon out of tournament wins, which we turned into Chick Hafey and Tim McCarver. Theme team coming together slowly but surely.

took a peek at the other Bronze leagues... looks like Chandler will be moving up to Silver to be the lone OL rep at that tier... Las Vegas will remain at Bronze, so should have 4 teams at that tier next season if the placement goes right

at Rookie, either Boston or Shinbone will move up depending on who wins the wildcard game between them...

if all goes well, should have 11 at Rookie, 10 at Stone, 11 at Iron, 5 at Bronze and 1 at Silver next season.

online sheet updated/sorted with the new tiers

I felt for ya. It softened the blow for me that I had 154 games to get used to the idea of being out of the race...

Yep, Chandler will move up to Silver. Cedar Rapids met the threshold to move up to Iron, and Texarkana will be moving to Bronze.

Chandler's amazing string of pack luck continued last night. After pulling a 100 Frankie Frisch the other week which they sold and used to complete the live mission set, last night they managed to pull Charlie Buffinton out of a pack from tournament winnings. We warily await the price that will eventually be extracted in payment of their early good fortunes.

Ah, I didn't know this! The Red Sox did win their wild card game, so I guess we're going to Stone. In the division series, we're currently tied 1-1 with a very tough non-OL team. I don't expect to win that, but you never know in a short series.

Also, now I'm kinda glad I'm keeping my Boston Red Sox designation. I stand out! I'm the only OL team with a real-life name! (I might rename my non-OL Boston Red Sox team, though. Bar Harbor Red Sox, or Bangor Red Sox, maybe.)

Maybe I should acquire and then sell Babe Ruth to give myself an authentic Curse, too.

I know the feeling, but as bad as it for you, imagine having the existential angst of when to pack with the complicating factor of not angering Jobu. I did a little bit of opening as I got 'em, but found Jobu completely abandoned the Mundys if I asked him to work more than Saturday morning. With special sacrifices, he'll allow a little on Sunday as well. More than that results in him going on hiatus. I previously catalogued how my pack luck was totally moribund, until I realized that I had angered him by opening on weekdays. I will not make that mistake again. In short, I agree with your approach.

Rookie promotions

Algoma, Boston, Lemp Ave, South Holland, West Burlington, and Bluffton will all be promoted.

Art of War -- a whale of a whale team -- eliminated Boston and should, barring a miracle, win the overall title. But until then, it's fun watching the mostly OL playoffs in R78. Boomerangs and out-matched Farmhands going to game 5.

UPDATE: South Holland eliminates OL-champ Lemp Ave from playoffs. Light-hitting Lou Klimchock was series MVP.

Stone playoffs:

Nowhere, Port Ruppert and Cary advance to the LCS. Guaranteed one OL team in the WS with the chance of an all-OL finals

Ouch. Bluffton drops game 5 to the Farmhands. With one out in the top of the 13th, Boomerang first baseman Ripper Collins dropped a throw to first that would have nabbed Sherm Lollar. Bobby Madritsch would then walk 3 of the next 4 batters, to walk in the eventual winning run.

The Farmhands now have to face the nearly impossible Art of War.

UPDATE: Algoma advances to face South Holland. At least one team will represent the OL in the final series.
