1902 Draft Pool Released
The playoffs are over and teams are now gearing up for the draft. The latest 1st round mock draft results are out, with prognosticators seeing the White Sox drafting Charles "Chief" Bender with the overall pick. The Boston Americans are currently slotted to draft at pick #14 and so-called draft experts beleive that outfielder Doc Gessler will be the team's selection. Given how crowded the outfield position is right now, it is very likely that a trade and/or different player is in the works.

1902 Double-A Championship
What a way to close out a series, as the Amarillo Stampeders shutout the Genera Quakers by a 4 to 0 score to win the Double-A championship. This is the 1st championship for the Detroit Tigers affiliate.

End of Season Score
While it is disappointing to lose the World Series, it was a very good season for the team. The trades I made did, for the most part, pan out well, the staff pitched above my expectations, and had solid hitting throughout the lineup. The past is the past, and I need to do better in the 1903 season.

Owner's Review -- End of Season
Overall, Boston Americans team owner Kevin Kunz is happy with my performance during the 1902 season. He obviously liked the fact that made the World Series and that I kept finances in check. I did get reminded that I need to upgrade the 1st base position, and added new goals of improving my bullpen ERA and picking up a gold glove winner. Sure boss, whatever you want...

NL Fireman of the Year
The 1902 end of season awards are out and St. Louis Cardinals reliever Wish Egan took home the National League Fireman of the Year award. The 5th round pick (75th overall) in last year's draft was spectacular in the bullpen for the Cardinals, as Egan posted a 6-1 record with 4 saves and a 0.68 ERA in 26 1/3 innings pitched (18 game appearances).

AL Fireman of the Year
The American League Fireman of the Year honor was awarded to Boston American's reliever Ham Iburg. On the season, Iburg posted a record of 2-2 with 2 saves and a 2.77 ERA in 13 innings of play (8 game appearances) for a 0.3 WAR. The selection of Iburg over last year's winner Bill Reidy was a source of heated debate, as there were rumblings that the selectors were simply punishing Reidy for his mid-season trade to the National League.

National League Rookie of the Year
With the 6th overall pick in last year's draft, the Brooklyn Superbas had several great players to choose from but, at the end of the day, they felt like Shortstop Joe Tinker was the best selection. Clearly, they got that decision right as Tinker was named today as the National League Rookie of the Year. In earning this prestigious honor, Tinker hit .280 (158 for 565) with 30 Doubles, 13 Triples, 3 Homeruns, 74 Runs, 68 RBIs, 23 Walks, with 57 Stolen bases. Tinker's slash line of .280/.305/.395 resulted in a 108 OPS+ and 7.2 WAR.

American League Rookie of the Year
What a strange year it has been for Bob Ewing. Despite being drafted as the 4th overall pick by the Philadelphia Athletics, Ewing became a free agent after he could not agree to terms with the team. The Detroit Tigers quickly swooped in and the rest was history, culminating in today's announcement that Ewing was the American League Rookie of the Year. For the season, Ewing posted a 20-14 record with a 2.36 ERA in 305 2/3 innings in 35 starts. He finished with a 1.15 WHIP, a .275 BABIP, a 125 ERA+, and 6.6 WAR.

American League Platinum Pitcher
Despite a somewhat slow start, Washington Senators ace Rube Waddell stormed back with a 15-3 record in his final 18 decisions to finish the season with a 22-14 record and a 1.70 ERA to take home his 2nd consecutive the American League Platinum Pitcher award. Waddell's outstanding pitching resulted with leading the league in ERA, Innings Pitched (354), Strikeouts (263), WHIP (1.03), K/9 (6.7), Saves (4), and WAR (11.8). There is little doubt that Waddell is the best pitcher in the MLB.
