Hoping this one goes to 7, sorry if it means more work.
That said, I’m thinking Elnora will have to get the next two to stay in it. I don’t see Red Bluff losing with Sharpe on the mound (unless they overwork him again like in game 2). Elnora’s Grosscup having pitched at the end of 2, he’ll have to do it without giving up a run, because that bullpen worries me. I know you watch every playoff game, do you pick out a few to watch during the regular season? |

The AI doesn't seem to know it's an important playoff game. I would love a seven-game series with each game like the opener. I'm pulling for Red Bluff for two reasons... one reasonable and one quite silly: I love their unique ballpark, Red Bluff Park... and I don't like the George Costanza family because of the Seinfeld TV connection... I know it was a huge hit with a huge audience, but none of the characters were likeable people... that's why it was not one of my favorites series. Tuesday, October 16, 2057 YOUNGSTER SHARPE NAMED IPA PRO CUP MVP It took a communal effort for the Red Bluff Red Sox to bag their second Pro Cup trophy... it took blistering bats and some solid pitching to haul it in... the Red Sox high-octane attack was the prime reason they nabbed this year's overall IPA crown, but one pitcher, Wilson Sharpe, was even more important... that's why the 22-year-old right-hander was named the 2057 Pro Cup Most Valuable Player... without Sharpe, Red Bluff might not have nabbed the Pro Cup trophy... he was manager Ike Sweetwater's only dependable starter, going 4-1 in 6 starts with a 2.36 ERA... Sharpe lost his first postseason start this year, but then went on to win four straight, almost all of the them critical games. The Red Bluff lineup was jammed full of high-powered hitters and they all produced quite handsomely, but Sharpe was the critical element in the Red Sox's championship run, along with his bullpen compadres, Felix Delatte and James Apple, two other crucial parts of the equation... Delatte was the second-highest votegetter in the MVP poll... and Apple came in third... an 18-year veteran at age 38, Delatte relieved in 9 postseason games, logged a 1-0 record with an impressive 1.26 ERA in 14 innings and 3 important saves... lifetime Delatte is 219-218 with a 3.86 ERA... Apple, just 19 years old and a third-year player, fired 13 scoreless innings in the playoffs and didn't give up a run in 6 relief appearances, charting a 1-0 mark with 1 save. However, the batters did get some support... fourth in the Pro Cup MVP balloting was Wesley Robertson, who batted .380 with 4 homers, 18 runs and 14 RBIs... fifth was talented rookie Paul Gaddison with a .384 BA, 6 HRs, 14 runs and 14 RBIs... sixth in the voting was Jason Hunsinger, who wound up with a .455 BA, 5 HRs, 14 runs and 11 RBIs. Rounding out vote, Elnora had three players that came in seventh, eighth and ninth in the poll... Mickey Wilbur had a marvelous postseason, hitting .431 with 6 HRs, 20 RBIs and 14 runs... Gus Abreu stood out with a .327 BA, 4 roundtrippers, 17 runs and 11 RBIs... and All-Star reliever Wade Mendenhall was voted ninth in the MVP survey with a 3-1 record and a fine 0.71 ERA in 5 relief appearances. Tuesday, October 16, 2057 IPA GOLDEN BATS GIVEN TO ITO AND BUISSON Winning awards is old hat to this year's IPA Golden Bat Award winners, Norishige Ito of the Midway Wolves and Lenny Buisson of the Taranto Tars... both of them are notorious terrors at the plate... Ito copped his 5th Tycobbian Union top-hitter trophy and Buisson nabbed his 4th Ruthlandian Union best-batter honor. Ito was the runaway winner in his league, topping the entire Islandian Pro Alliance with 50 homers, 150 RBIs and 118 runs, while batting a lofty .341 with 202 hits in 149 games... the 30-year-old Ito just missed hauling in the Triple Crown when he wound up second to Travis Ledger, who led both leagues with a .352 BA. Playing in his 11th year, Ito was also acclaimed the top Tycobbian hitter in 2052, 2053, 2054 and 2055... his Midway Wolves were unexpectedly supplanted by this year's Pro Cup champion, the Red Bluff Red Sox, in the Tycobbian East Division... Ito had led the Wolves to four straight divison crowns and two Pro Cup titles... Midway was the overall IPA champion in 2053 and 2054... in his legendary career Ito is hitting .318 with 407 homers and 1168 runs batted in... Ito has two Golden Gloves and has been chosen to the All-Star team 6 times. This year's TU Golden Bat easily outpolled runner-up Teddy Stonich of the Rolling Hills Reds and third-place finisher, Kagetoki Miyazaki of the High Mesa Mustangs... only 23 years old Stonich appeared in 152 games, batted .307 with 36 roundtrippers, 121 RBIs and 109 runs, helping his Reds to a very close second place in the TU West... at age 24 Miyazaki shined with a .290 BA, 39 home runs, 103 RBIs and 100 runs in 138 games... his Mustangs wound a very close third to Red Bluff and Midway in a three-way clash for the division... only one and a half games separated the three clubs in the Tycobbian East. In addition to his RU Golden Bat Award this year, Taranto's Lenny Buisson has had a great career with Golden Bat trophies in 2048, 2052 and 2053, coupled with the Ruthlandian MVP in 2048... the 32-year-old Buisson had a banner year this season with a .304 mark, 49 homers, 105 RBIs and 90 runs scored... the Tars ended up in fourth place this year in the RU North Division... Buisson is a 6-time All-Star and also won the 2047 RU Rookie of the Year and is a Golden Glove defender... he has played 12 seasons in the IPA and has compiled a standout .322 lifetime batting average with 455 RBIs and 1172 RBIs... Buisson played his first 8 seasons with the Belle Plaine Musketeers... the last 4 with Taranto. The Golden Bat voting was much tighter in the Ruthlandian Union... it was hotly-contested by Crystal Lake's Zippy Coburn, who batted .314 with 23 homers, 100 RBIs and 98 runs in 148 games... the Skippers had a fine year, but wound up second to the St. John Crusaders in the fight for the RU South title, losing out by just a single game... winding up a very close third in the balloting was Elnora's Dickie DeBusshere, who led his club to the RU East pennant by hitting .314 with 31 home runs, 105 RBIs and 97 runs in 134 games... Coburn is 28 and DeBusshere 25. ************* 2057 TYCOBBIAN UNION GOLDEN BAT AWARD ************** ******** 2057 RUTHLANDIAN UNION GOLDEN BAT AWARD **** Last edited by Eugene Church; 09-05-2018 at 12:57 PM. |

Wednesday, October 17, 2057 GOLD SLINGER TROPHIES GO TO LONG AND TIMMS One of the Islandian Pro Alliance Golden Arm Award winners should be home with his grandkids and the other one is hardly dry behind the ears... at 37, James Long of the Middlefield Roosters is still pitching like he did almost 20 years ago... actually Long is better now than he was in his early years... for the 9th successive season the famed Rooster right-hander had a chalked up 20 or more victories... in fact Long has won that number 13 times in the last 14 years... once again Long has been touted the Ruthlandian Union Golden Arm... this is his 5th time to be honored... he also won it in '50, '54, '55 and '56... Long hasn't given up the trophy now for the 3rd year in a row... maybe it's time to rename the award... lifetime he is now 405-227 with a brilliant 2.65 ERA... Long is the all-time IPA-winning pitcher, currently 14 victories ahead of the retired Frankie Blair and the still active Matt Bell. Enough about ancient history and what James Long has done in the past... this year he was 24-10 with a strong 2.65 ERA in 39 starts, leading Middlefield to a third-place spot in the RU West race... he had 17 complete games and posted 4 shutouts. The 2057 RU Golden Arm beat out some young arms for the best-twirler trophy... he edged out second place Homer Lawler, who posted a superb 20-4 mark with a 2.72 ERA in 27 starts for the Eastshore Cotton Kings... the Cottonpickers came in third in the RU East standings... third in the voting was Zeke Yoder of the Fort Benton Defenders... Yoder sparked the Defenders to their first RU West pennant, topping third-place Middlefield by 4 games... Yoder was 20-10 with a fine 2.74 ERA, 218 Ks in 269 IP, 19 CG and 3 shutouts... fourth place went to Yanni Bubas of the Ancona Red Elephants... he stood out with an impressive 21-12 record and 2.93 ERA for a sixth-place club... Lawler is 26, Yoder 31 and Bubas just 22... altogether this trio has put up 248 wins, compared to Long's 405. Now we need to cover the young'uns in the Tycobbian Union... the 2057 Golden Arm went to Tuckanarra's 22-year-old Ian Timms, who really blossomed in his fourth season with the club, going a magnificent 26-5 and charting a great 2.24 ERA, second best in the entire IPA... only Dickie Parmenter of Turon was better with a 2.12 ERA... Timms tossed 3 shutouts and fanned 209 batters in 310 innings and tied for first place in victories, despite playing for the fifth-place Blue Jays. Nobody was close to Timms in the TU Golden Arm polling... but 7 other twirlers got votes... (2nd) at age 28 Dickie Parmenter paced Turon to the TU South division title with an 18-7 mark and a brilliant 2.12 ERA...(3rd) 22-year-old Maury Statler tied Timms for wins... he was 26-10 with a 2.94 ERA for Oxford, which won the Tycobbian North... (4th) rookie Duane Sturgeon, only 23, led Red Bluff to the Tycobbian East title with a 22-12 record and a 2.90 ERA... (5th) 25-year-old East Point's Eddy Winbourne was 21-13 and 2.40 in his second year... the Panthers were fourth in the TU East... (6th) at 22, Carl Coons compiled a 21-14 mark, coupled with a strong 2.58 ERA for the Denton City Redbirds, who won the Tycobbian West this season... (7th) another rookie phenom, Weldon Herrington, recorded a 23-9 season and a 2.77 ERA at the young age of 21 for the third-place High Mesa Mustangs in the Tycobbian East... (8th) and finally, 9-year vet Flash Stringfellow went 24-12 with a 2.82 ERA for Denton City... Stringfellow was the old one in the bunch at 29. 2057 Ruthlandian Union and Tycobbian Union Golden Arm Award Winners Last edited by Eugene Church; 09-04-2018 at 10:18 PM. |
