Dola, the latest is my fifth try at a solo league since v9 came out, so I'd gone at it from several different directions and abandoned each league in frustration at the severe lack of realistic player progression.

Maybe my 6th try, with settings adjustments, will be the one that finally satisfies.

Gotta say, I love the mechanics and the GM functions. If it gives me more realism in player development, then I'll truly be happy.

I've been having much the same problems myself, and was about ready to give up on OOTP entirely. I started a historic league in '54 with recalc turned off, and auto-played until '61 with the idea I'd get an expansion team and draft.

I was absolutely appalled by how terrible just about every player was in 1961. Mantle was hitting under .200 and riding the bench with a salary exceeding $1 mil. Mays, Robinson, Roger Maris, Kenny Boyer...heck, just about everyone of consequence in the actual year 1961 was swirling around the drain in my league. And I'm not exaggerating here.

After seeing these settings (and where does someone find these and other suggested settings anyway?) I can begin to fathom what the heck is going on. Now I'm tempted to restart my league again (I'm midway through '64) with these adjustments.
Not to add to your angst, I believe the settings I use and RonCo's settings are specific to modern MLB set ups. They may work just fine but I have no data to support it. Perhaps a historical simmer can chime in on this.

I strongly believe that high player development settings increase the possibility of "falling star" type players by skewing the development curve to the early twenties. However I don't know what effect that has on existing historical players.

Yeah, come on guys. It's like that early episode of MacGyver, where this lady friend of his finds this organism that ages her like 30 years in a couple of days...totally like that. I mean, if it happens on MacGyver, it HAS to be true.

I think part of the problem is that the default settings do not appear to be the best settings. Hopefully Markus will work with people in the know to get that right next year. It seems to be a lot like the sliders in Madden. I shouldn't have to search for good settings on the forum, they should be good right out of the box.

I agree with you.

On the forum, is there some collected area for advised settings for different scenarios? I only seem to stumble on suggestions by accident.

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is with historical leagues. If you want totally accurate aging, and development of players, why not play with recal on?
