Yes, yes it does! I use the normal ootp13 skin and the text looks much sharper and clear to me, thanks.

You know what I did to lose the text on the banners? I changed the skin with the revised font in place. Don't do that!
![]() Choose the skin that you want first, then end the game. Copy the old vera font in (and only that font) and restart the game. Voila! |

I'll say no more after this, as I am happy now. I've played a couple of hours with the old vera font restored and my eyes are no longer bothering me.
I know we are in a minority here as only a few of us have expressed disappointment over these skins and fonts. Part of it is also consideration for the new OOTP GUI kid on the block, I think. But I must say, the proper font makes SO MUCH DIFFERENCE. This came as close to a version-killer as I can remember; certainly since OOTP 2006. You beta testers. You gotta speak up! Nobody noticed anything wrong with the GUI?!? Nobody had trouble reading? Nobody's eyes bothered them? Well, I have my workaround. Good thing, because this thread, and this issue, are going to fade away now. My impression from MH's reaction is that it would be too much work to fix for this version. So I hope the designers will make crisp, appealing, easy-to-read text one of their highest priorities for OOTP 14. |

when you see the v12 font in v13, it is a no-brainer. The old font is made for displaying information and data. The v13 font is not. And it bothered me on day one. And I will be honest, once the excitement of the new GUI wore off, it has some left to be desired. There is functionality that it lacks compared to its predecessor. And I am no fan of functionality being removed.

There are a few areas where it does not fit too well, but not many. The biggest problem, if my experience is typical, is if you change skins with the replacement vera font, funky things happen as indicated in the screen prints that I posted earlier. Text was missing in other areas as well. Everything appears to be fine as long as you pick a skin and stick to it, then swap the old font over the default version.

Could you upload the orignal font (vera) that came with v13? I seem to have forgotten to save it to my external HD. ![]() Thank you! |

EDIT: Oh well, I can't wait for an answer. It's bedtime! ![]() So, here are both vera fonts. The way to tell them apart is the v12 font is dated 6/13/2011 while the v13 font is dated 3/8/2012. Last edited by 1998 Yankees; 04-30-2012 at 01:17 AM. |

No problem, my pleasure. Got any way of getting the bigwigs to notice this thread, perhaps?

Could always ping Markus with a PM. Or link it to him when he gets back. But that doesn't always mean success.

It really does, doesn't it? Especially in conjunction with the dark skin.

![]() I'm of two minds about this. He left the issue as 1) kind of complicated to fix for this version (much of the GUI would have to be redesigned); and 2) the old vera font is a workaround (hence his happy face). Personally, I'm good with it now. But, I would like the GUI to be fixed for the next version and I would like him to have noticed this thread. The problem is, it's not a forum-burning issue; only a handful of us are participating in this thread although I am sure quite a few lurkers will have benefited by it. There is also the issue of the new lady in town, mi77ens, who either helped or led the GUI redesign for this version. It may be that she is being given the kit(ten) gloves treatment, being a highly-prized OOTPD rookie . . . I'm not an insider. Perhaps the best thing that might happen would be for some members who are insiders to notice our distress and mention it to him when he returns. |

All right, curiosity may take its toll on me. Remind me again about the caution here. I use the dark skin, so was the only issue potentially if I switched skins?

Heh. NOT!
![]() Quote:
So, I thought back: It was OK before. What had I done just before those screen images? The only answer that came was that I had changed skins with the replacement (version 12) vera font in place. I reinstalled the game (I could probably have just deleted the skin.bin file), chose a skin, swapped the vera font again, and have had no problems since. So, I advise NOT to change skins with the replacement vera font installed. Choose a skin and stick to it. If you do any skin mods (like this one: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-offering.html ), download the skin, change any images, delete skin.bin, and restart the game. Only then, do the font substitution.

Oh, and one more thing. As Cras said, swap in only the vera font from OOTP 12, not verabd or any other. Those cause some unnecessarily funky screen things to happen. So does vera v12, but not too bad at all. The return? No more of this!
