Things can chance within a season as well. I just had a team who was cruising with about a .650 winning percentage at the All-Star break, comfortably a few games in first, and ended up missing the playoffs by about 5 games, being around 11 games behind the division leader. I've also had teams do the opposite, be around .500 at mid-season and end up going like 55-25 down the stretch to easily cruise to a division win.

I had a team in a fictional league coming off two straight championships. Started 42-43, fired the manager. Finished first with over 90 wins, won a third straight championship. So, try firing Matheny if all else fails, although I'd wait until the end of a season.

I am always looking to improve my coaching staff starting with the major leagues then work my way down. I will fire the not so good coaches if I can get a better one to my liking. Cant get too attached to players or coaches.

I feel your pain. Here are my winning percentages for my first five years with the White Sox. I'm in September of year five.
2015 .395 2016 .414 2017 .456 2018 .518 2019 .589 2020 .471 My winning percentage for 2020 was sub .400 until a hot August. I have mostly the same players as last year, and most of them are still twenty-somethings. I went from first in the league in defensive efficiency to second from last. What happened? To heck if I know. I'm about ready to set fire to my laptop, but I'm going to keep playing. Edit: I did lose an all-star, Jose Abreu, to free agency. Is his absence why my team suddenly sucks? That's doubtful. My consistent improvement came from consistently improving defensively. Abreu was my DH. That's OOTP. Sometimes, the unexplainable happens. You need to make sure your setting for "Hack Opponent's Database" is checked under your Team Settings menu.

Honestly, if you're struggling at the default level, there's no shame at tinkering the settings to make things a bit easier.
I am a veteran OOTP player, and for example, I'll admit that I keep trading difficulty set on "easy". There's no shame in this, you should play the game however it's the most fun for you. |

Real players = preform either wayyy better or so bad then we think they should Play fictional = players/teams dont hurt you so much when your starting out, once you get deep in to the game then its like real life because you have become attached but Its also baseball and even in games like this you see teams that should win lose and you don't know why Give it time man OOTP really is the best baseball game

I think that's one of the things that I like about playing with real players. I've played enough fantasy baseball to know that that is reality. For example, my current fantasy team was projected by Yahoo Sports projections to finish in first and to have great hitting, which was my intention when I drafted them. They are in last in every hitting category and are dominating the pitching categories. Go figure. OOTP has the same amount of frustration and unpredictability.

How do we know the problem is the game and not you? What are your players and their ratings?

You're right, this game does suck...all of my free time away!
Seriously though. There are SO many ways that you can play this game that you will find something that you love. Trust me on that . |

I can vouch for this from 24 rocks for There have been a few players I got attached to and wouldn't trade for nothing in fact rooting for them as well. Sounds stupid yet I have a feeling that many if not all of us have done that at one time or another. |

I've played about 20-25 seasons in OOTP16 so far. Until yesterday, I hadn't won a World Series/championship. And I would bet that I have a losing record if you'd combine all my leagues.
This game is hard. It's impossible to completely master unless you cheat. Don't give up, because it's worth it when you finally win. |

Perfect example.. I've played EA's NHL series on the consoles for many, many years. Tonight, I won the Stanley Cup with my Blues.. first time I've ever won it!

I don't like it either, and I could change it, but I'm not sure it's really right to run around changing other people's thread titles unless they're clearly violations of the forum rules or something. If, upon further review, the op wanted the title changed then I'd be happy to oblige ![]() |
