The writers are predicting that Brooklyn will win the National League Pennant, by a mere game over the Giants.
They have the Athletics winning the AL. Top NL Hitter: Tris Speaker, Doves (Honus Wagner is 7th and Sam Crawford in 10th) Top NL Pitcher: Charlie Bender, Cubs (Robert Wall, 3rd? What? Mordecai Brown 7th). (Where is Christy Mathewson?) Top AL Hitter: Ty Cobb, Browns Top AL Pitcher: Ed Walsh, Athletics

Christy Mathewson looked like he had this game sewn up until everything went wrong in the 8th. Honus Wagner homered for Brooklyn in the 9th but it was too late as they dropped Opening Day to the Phillies, 5-3. WP - Heinie Berger (1-0) Save - Hank Gehring (1) LP - Christy Mathewson (0-1) Record - 0-1

The Superbas have three Gold Gloves in their infield but it didn't stop them from making FOUR errors for FOUR unearned runs and losing 5-1 to the Phillies. WP - Bob Wicker (1-0) LP - Mordecai Brown (0-1) Record 0-2

The Superbas needed an answer to this slow start and Bill Bailey was it! He threw a four hit shutout as Brooklyn beat the Phillies 5-0! WP - Bill Bailey (1-0) LP - Fred Olmstead (0-1) Record - 1-2

Christy Mathewson was not satisfied wth his Opening Day performance so in his second start he pitched a four hit shut out, striking out seven, going three for three at the plate with a double, two singles, and a walk. The Superbas destroyed the Phillies, winning 10-0 in Brooklyn's Home Opener. Bob Coulson got his first start of the year and he went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. WP - Christy Mathewson (1-1) LP - Mike Lynch (0-1) Record - 2-2

In Bill Bailey's first game of the year, he threw a shut out. Today he pitched even better! He faced only 28 batters and gave up two hits as he led the Superbas to a 1-0 win over the Phillies! He even crossed the plate on a Bill Jackson triple for the only run! WP - Bill Bailey (2-0) LP - Bob Wicker (1-1) Record - 3-3

The Superbas finally faced a team other than the Phillies, and they rose to the challenge, crushing the Giants 11-3. Sam Crawford went 4 for 4 with a pair of triples and Phil McAndrew homered. Unfortunately, later in the game McAndrew left with some back pain. We await word on his condition. WP - Christy Mathewson (2-1) LP - Lew Richie (1-1) Record - 4-3

Phil McAndrew is having back spasms. They aren't serious enough to send him to the DL but he will likely sit for up to a week.

This was a frustrating loss for Brooklyn as the Superbas made five errors and Pablo Garcia was ejected after a spirited disagreement with the umpire about a 3rd strike call. The Giants won 5-3. WP - Ray Caldwell (1-1) Save - Charley Hall (2) LP - Bill Bailey (2-1) Record - 5-4
