I kind of like this schedule. Opening and closing the regular season at Daytona. North Wilkesboro back with a points race.

Although there's a part of me which wishes the final championship race would be at Daytona rather than Miami. I mean, if we're going to Florida, why not start and end at the sport's most iconic track?

The entire Hendrick team managed two top 10s in the first round, while Gibbs cars won all races (but Gibbs won none).

Why Bowman chose the outside on the final restart was absolutely beyond me.

At least van Gisbergen was eliminated for his lack of talent with a 27.7 average finish in this round.

Yeah, they said all season long how Mr. Hamlin was not in good health and - what do you mean, HOUSE FIRE??

I will listen to alternative suggestions, but I can't think of any racing drivers that are more cursed with personal tragedy *and* on-track sabotage by their own race teams than Denny Hamlin and Charles Leclerc.

NASCAR revamps the playoffs (curse words) by basically going back to the Chase system, but with 16 drivers over the last ten Cup races. The top 16 in regular season points qualify - there's no more win-and-you're-in; there are also no more bonus points for stage wins or real wins; the field is set by the regular season rankings. Apparently the guy with the most points starts the playoffs 100 points ahead of, I don't know, probably somebody like Chris Buescher in 16th. Then why reset the points at all when he's not gonna catch up anyway?

The whole thing will probably be published much neatlier written up and extremely hyped on a sports site of your choice.

Utter BS, as usual.

Thankfully I was cautioned in my expectations by a guy just leaving a comment on Youtube under the post with NASCAR's announcement that the new system would be presented today. The comment just said:

"Prepare to the super underwhelmed."
