Pour appeared in just two games as a backup. He was 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Following the last out, Mutfruit appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Oberland manager Dirk Steadyhand, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Mutfruit's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.

The T-51s skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Knuckle Punchers press conference, Mutfruit confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.

"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Mutfruit said.

2297 Week 10 - The Week in Review

Analysis

We're at the midway point of the season, and you can look at the standings attached here and see how the standings look. However, if the playoffs started today, interestingly they would look like this:

#8 Egret Scrappers (RL) vs #1 Oberland T-51s (RL)
#5 Warwick Mirelurks (ML) vs #4 Goodneighbor Hancocks (ML)
#7 Lexington Synths (IL) vs #s Starlight Lady Killers (IL)
#6 Easy Town Assaultrons (BL) vs #1 The Slog Ghouls (BL)

See the interesting point here? At the midway point, we would have four league matchups in the playoffs if they started today. It would be fun to see that happen at the end of the season, but it's unlikely these remain.

In the divisions, the best one at the top is still the Minutemen League. That division race in the first half among Goodneighbor, Warwick, and Quincy has been the best.

That does not take away with the close race that is the Brotherhood League. In its first two years of existence, the BL has been the most competitive overall. That was evident last year when The Slog entered the playoffs as the 7th seed and a huge underdog to #2 seed Warwick and ended up winning their final over the BL league winner, Finch Farm.

This season, The Slog looks to be a solid team again, but still they face stiff competition each week. Right now, the Ghouls have a two-game lead over the Assaultrons, with the Four Leafs one game back of Easy Town for the wildcard.

Looking at the midseason MVP race, Fairlne Hill Estates' SS Hose Wallcrawler looks like he has a solid lead for the CBO award. He has an amazing .444/.517/.919 line. He leads the CBO in batting average, OBP, slugging, on-base + slugging (1.437), WAR (3.1), total bases (114), extra-base hits (30), and four advanced categories. He's third in home runs (13) and second in RBI (44). Unless he goes through a large slump, there are few who can catch up to his numbers.

In the pitcher's race for best in the CBO, Starlight's City Moore seems to be the one. He is currently 7-0 with a 3.28 ERA. He leads the CBO in only two categories: wins (tied) and quality starts (9 out of 10). His ERA is sixth, WAR tied for third (1.7), innings pitched fourth (74.0), walks per 9 innings fifth (1.5), FIP sixth (4.16), and ERA+ seventh (150).

If anyone else could challenge for that lead, it would the reigning CBO Pitcher of the Year, Warwick's John Diner. He is 6-3 with a CBO-leading 2.70 ERA. He has pitched 80 innings to lead the CBO. He also leads in ERA+ at 192.

14 June 2297 - Players of the Week

BL Awards Best Batter Prize to Tentsleep: Lernz Tentsleep demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Brotherhood League Player of the Week Award.

The The Slog shortstop wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .357 average (5-for-14) with 3 home runs and 4 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

Tentsleep is presently hitting at a .381 pace with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs. He has played in 30 games and scored 35 times.

IL Star of the Week Picked: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Institute League, but last week Wild Cannon of the Starlight Lady Killers reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Cannon rocked opposing pitching for a .600 average (9-for-15), no home runs and 7 RBIs to come away with the award.

Cannon currently has a .424 batting average with 53 hits, 0 homers, 23 RBIs, 22 runs scored and a .435 OBP.

Week's Best Player Honored by ML: It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Carney Cornseed, the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets 17-year-old left fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for Minutemen League Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 6 hits in 9 at-bats, compiling a .667 average with 1 home run and 4 RBIs.

Cornseed is swinging at a .392 pace on the year with 7 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He has played in 29 games.

Scrappers Bowfiddle Snags RL Player of the Week: 26-year-old Dustin Bowfiddle sent shock waves through Railroad League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Railroad League Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Bowfiddle made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .667 average, 10 hits in 15 at-bats, no home runs and 3 runs batted in.

Where the Egret Scrappers second baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Bowfiddle certainly made his mark last week.

Bowfiddle is hitting .367 so far this season with 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He has 47 hits including 3 home runs, 6 walks and .409 OBP.

Settlements Today

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

15 June 2297 - Roxbury (Shaw HS)

On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 season, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners. These will be done at Nat Wright-Kowalski's availability

In our twenty-fourth installment of "Settlements Today," I went to the up-and-coming section of the Commonwealth, Roxbury, the home of the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers.

Nate Howard stated that Roxbury was a suburb of Boston. According to the terminal it was a neighborhood, but it covers a pretty wide area. That same terminal goes on: "Before the Great War, one of the multitudes of nationwide riots over food shortages took place in Roxbury. In response to the chronic food shortages, violence broke out, resulting in four civilian casualties and injuries to eight others.

The riot began after soldiers of the United States Army's 184th Infantry Regiment opened fire on a group of unarmed civilians after an unknown person smashed the plate glass window of the Roxbury food bank, prompting several people in the line outside to storm into the establishment. Jonathan Corman, spokesman for the Army, insisted the troops acted within their authority, stating that they issued several explicit verbal warnings to not break the line and attack the food bank, and that hunger is no excuse for civil disobedience, vandalism or starting a riot that puts the lives in the area at risk. He emphasized that it was the role of the United States Army to maintain order in that difficult time, and taking the time to note specifically that the soldiers of the 184th Infantry Regiment have not had a food ration in two days, and understood their hunger 'probably better than anyone.'

"This account was contradicted by the civilian witnesses of the riot. Eighty-five-year-old grandmother Hannah Henry was in line at the food bank and claims the soldiers had anything but order and liberty on their minds. She stated that the soldiers were laughing, joking about who they wanted to shoot first. Although the window was broken, it was clear they were looking forward to firing upon the civilians before anything provoked them to do so."

Roxbury Station 2288 - A supermutant did not yet spot the cameraman

Roxbury was almost an afterthought for Nate when it came to freeing Roxbury. When he first got to West Roxbury, the area around West Roxbury Station, which included Fallon's Department Store and Milton General Hospital, was overrun by mutants and Gunners in a perpetual war.

Roxbury's Shaw HS 2288

Shaw High School was a "modern design of a public school" that became "a super mutant encampment" when Nate found it. Don't worry, he sent those muties back to the realm of Atom. According to the history of the high school as recorded in a terminal, "In August of 2076, students at Shaw High School were receiving very low test scores. Ronald Tanner, a failed Vault-Tec salesman and current principal of Shaw High School, devised a plan to raise test scores by smuggling Mentats into the school and coercing delinquent students to distribute them to the student body in secret." Read more about the interesting history in this intranet site: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Shaw_High_School.

Nate has not explained his insistence that the Roxbury area have a team other than mentioning that his wife used to love Fallon's. Despite Roxbury not being built up a lot, there are some good things happening. For one, we will get to the Atomatoys link below. For the established businesses, Fallon's Department Store is leading the Commonwealth in apparel production and distribution. Milton General Hosptial is the largest hospital in the area, serving most of the area south of the Charles River. Also, crews have been clearing out West Roxbury Station with plans to make a mini shoppiong mall and market and hopes of restarting the subway system one day.

Owner - Arlen Glass

Arlen may not be as prominent as John-Caleb Bradberton, but do not underestimate his influence on the pre-War Commonwealth. Glass was alive them, but he is now a ghoulified and quite elderly man.

Arlen Glass

His is a sad story. According to a terminal on his history, "Cofounder of Wilson Atomatoys, Arlen was the lead toy designer until October 21, 2077. He worked tirelessly alongside his friend George Wilson to make toys to help children dream and to imagine a better future. It was their passion that they pursued for the next 35 years, often at the expense of time spent with their families. Their flagship product, the Giddyup Buttercup (created by Arlen), became a smash hit on the market, eventually bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue per year, in spite of its excessive price tag ($16,000 per unit).

"However, as the years went by, the pressure on both of their families only increased. Arlen neglected his wife and daughter for years, focusing on his work as much as possible, while George missed his son's birthdays, graduation and his wife's funeral. He brought on Marc Wilson as vice president in a bid to reconnect and eventually abdicated his position as company president to him in late 2077, believing that Marc grew into the toy business, despite initial reservations. His son, turned bitter by years of parental neglect, immediately turned his back on his father's legacy. Sales forecasts for the fourth quarter of 2077 indicated that sales of the Giddyup Buttercup would decline in from $122,000,000 to $110,000,000, a year-over-year loss of 17%. They cited brand stagnation and market saturation at the current price point as reasons for the continuing decline. While Arlen reacted to the news with incredulity, he immediately set about finding new ways to enhance the brand's appeal. These included collectible variants (e.g. mythical horses), alternative markets for boys, Premium Princess lines, as well as promotional tie-ins with Hubris, Nuka-Cola and Vault-Tec. Marc, on the other hand, had other ideas.

"The new president made a bid for the secretive SCYTHE Program initiated by the United States government to bolster their wartime production by converting part of the Atomatoys factory into an ordnance production facility. His application was accepted on September 1st, despite doubts by some of the Pentagon staff, as the Atomatoys factory exceeded the requirements specified for the project. Colonel Thomas Nelson, director of the SCYTHE Program, scheduled a visit in person while Wilson and Nathaniel Hawke set about converting three of the five assembly lines for military production of land mines. The first phase of the conversion was completed by October 15, a week ahead of schedule, with production scheduled to begin on November 1.

"Arlen was kept out of the loop. He tinkered with leg servos, new paint schemes (missing his daughter's recital), while none of the executives returned his calls or moved forward with his licensing proposals. By October 20, Arlen was desperate to make any sort of headway on his projects, to have something to show at the board meeting. He did not expect to see a representative of the military at the meeting, much less hear about the values of the company being betrayed in favor of patching its budget by manufacturing weapons for the Army. Forty-five minutes into the board meeting, Arlen exploded and had to be removed from the premises by security. He tried in vain to enter and talk to Marc Wilson to dissuade him from the course he chose, but only succeeded in being removed several more times and forcing security to notify the police. The CEO fired him immediately. His dismissal was a shock to all employees of the company, who considered him to be the heart and soul of the place.

"Arlen made one last bid to try and convince Marc to change his mind on the morning of October 23, 2077. He left his Cambridge apartment and made his way to the Wilson Atomatoys headquarters. Although he was promptly removed, he managed to convince the security guard to deliver his final plea to Marc, who promptly threw it in the trash. When the bombs started dropping, Arlen tried to make his way back to his family in Cambridge, but when he came home, he only found a massive, irradiated crater. Traumatized, he lay among the ruins, wanting nothing but to die and join his family. Instead, he survived, and the radiation from the crater turned him into a ghoul. He kept on going, using his talents as a toymaker and expert engineer to get by, always haunted by the memory of his family and especially young Marlene, lost without so much as a goodbye. His focus on toys and technology helped him stay sane for over two hundred years, eventually settling down at the Slog, helping out the ghoul farmers with his expertise and trying to put one more Giddyup Buttercup together, for old times' sake and to perhaps gift it to a child in the wasteland. Although a wrench and a tool is far cry from the high-tech facilities he once had at his disposal, he keeps on going."

When Nate met Arlen, he was living in The Slog, mostly keeping to himself and tinkering with toys. Nate went on a quest for Arlen to procure a Giddyup Buttercup, the most famous toy made by Wilson Atomatoys. Nate got that Butercup for Arlen and convinced him to restart the toy industry. Arlen agreed, saying, "I may not have my family, but I can bring joy to other families. That gives me a purpose until I die or go feral."

Atomatoys 2297 and Toyland

In addition to reopening the Atomatoys Corporate HQ in DDowntown Boston and the Atomatoys Factory west of Quincy, Arlen Glass also opened an office in Roxbury across the highway from Shaw HS and east of Milton General. There, he has cleared out the land for what he said will be a future major tourist attraction in the Commonwealth, Toyland.

There are rudimentary attractions there now. They have incorporated the largest playground in the Boston area. There are future plans to build up rides and attractions like Nuka World. Glass said, "It will be more like the Kiddie Kingdom park in Nuka World. But I guarantee it will be ten times as fun."

Atomatoys logo

Arlen has started reproduction of Giddyup Buttercup in the factories for "mere caps." Atomatoys has also participated in settlement-building activities by fixing up playgrounds throughout the Commonwealth.

This one was tough! Though it is possible to mod a settlement just about anywhere, it is not always possible to find someone's screenshots or YouTube video of that settlement.

I plan to continue the Settlements segment for the minor league areas, but I may rethink the "Settlements Today" segment. It's easy to find the wikipedia article of the location and find an in-game screenshot of the location in shambles. That may be all I use, especially for the locations that are not in-game settlements.

However, there are some places that ARE settlements or that I know there are mods for, so I can feature those first: Taffington Boathouse, Mystic Pines, Greentop Nursery, Outpost Zimonja, and Bunker Hill. Outside of those, Cabot House, Forest Grove Marsh, Breakheart Banks, and a few others could work. Anyway, I will probably work through these slowly!

I hope you have enjoyed the 24 segments of "Settlements Today" so far. I wish I would have done something like it in my New Vegas dynasty.

June 2297 - News and Notes - June 17

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

17 June 2297 - BL: Mahaney, Four Leafs Beat Assaultrons, 10-4

The Easy Town Assaultrons and Finch Farm Four Leafs were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Finch Farm first baseman Joe Mahaney had 4 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Easy Town Assaultrons, 10-4. Finch Farm raised its record to 17-14 with the win.

Finch Farm grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Mahaney, who is tied for 5th in the BL in home runs with 8, hit a 3-run home run. His 8th home run of the season put the Four Leafs out in front, 7-4.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Mahaney said.

Other Scores:

Nordhagen Beach 8 at The Slog 2
Nordhagen Beach Party Boys starter Julian Shed was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the The Slog Ghouls, 8-2. Nordhagen Beach, at 14-17, sits in 5th place in the Brotherhood League.

Nordhagen Beach used the bat of Tommy Talkington to get the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Party Boys ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.

Salem 5 at County Crossing 8
The County Crossing Bloodbugs picked up a win at Beantown Brewery Stadium, knocking off the Salem Witch Hats, 8-5. Starting pitcher Bad Company Grognak played a key role in the triumph. With this game in the books, County Crossing is 15-16, Salem 11-20.

County Crossing left fielder Tom Mastodon contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a changeup into right-center field for a 2-run triple. It was his 6th triple of the season and put the Bloodbugs ahead, 3-0.

17 June 2297 - Consecutive-Game Hit Streak Continues for Stoops

Matt Stoops of the Easy Town Assaultrons tagged 2 hits in today's 10-4 loss to the Finch Farm Four Leafs at Easy Town Field to run his hitting streak to 20 straight games.

"I realize it's unlikely to have a 20-game streak and not have a couple losses mixed in," he said later. "But it still takes the fun out of it."

Matt Stoops hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th and grounded out in the 8th.

Thus far this year Stoops has hit .420 with 2 home runs and 22 RBIs.

17 June 2297 - IL: Fort Hagen Gets 2-1 Win

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud eked out a 2-1 win versus the Sunshine Tidings Chemists at ArcJet Systems Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Brent Hooker. He was terrific. Curtis Thriceshot finished the game for Fort Hagen and earned his 6th save. The win makes Fort Hagen 13-18.

It could have been a different outcome for Fort Hagen, had it not been for Micah Morals, the 21-year old third baseman . Morals contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put Fort Hagen up, 2-0.

"We found a way to get it done," Morals said.

Other Scores:

Starlight 1 at Concord 16
Concord starter Chris Radsco kept the Starlight offense in check, while his team cruised to a win, 16-1. Radsco went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 4-4. Concord is now 15-16, Starlight 21-10.

There was more than one reason the Radstags beat the Lady Killers, but Radsco's big at-bat in the bottom of the fourth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

Lexington 3 at Abernathy 10
Abernathy Adamantium starter Jason Woods was in fine form against the Lexington Synths at Tato Field, leading his team to a win, 10-3. Abernathy, at 14-17, occupies 4th place in the Institute League.

In the bottom of the second, Abernathy center fielder Radio Short had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Short stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 4-1, Abernathy. For the game, he was 1 for 5, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

17 June 2297 - ML: Hancocks Hang 8-5 Loss on Mirelurks

A 3-RBI performance from second baseman Jumper Hayes, who is tied for 4th in the ML in extra base hits with 18, led the Goodneighbor Hancocks to a win over the Warwick Mirelurks, 8-5. Matt Rodrigue earned save number 9 this season. With the win, Goodneighbor pushed its record to 20-11.

With Goodneighbor leading 4-0 in the bottom of the second, Hayes came up to bat against Warwick pitcher John Diner. Hayes hit a fastball to right-center for a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Hancocks on top, 7-0.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Hayes told the Goodneighbor Today. "It's as simple as that."

Other Scores:

Jamaica Plain 3 at Quincy 6
Quincy starter Matt Ranger pitched well against the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets at The Stone House. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-3. Ranger picked up the win for Quincy, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 6-4. Wick Prater nailed down his 7th save.

Quincy grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded, Brian Drinkwater delivered a 2-run single, to make it 5-3 in favor of the Gunners.

University Point 7 at Atom 5
University Point second baseman Jason Harris contributed to his team's 7-5 win over the Atom Cats. Harris, who is tied for 3rd in the ML in RBI with 31, went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Deathclaws. Marc Pondsip earned the save for University Point, his 6th of the year. University Point is now 14-17. Atom is 10-21.

Harris contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for University Point in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Harris took a cutter from Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope and stroked the home run to left-center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Deathclaws to leap in front, 5-3.

17 June 2297 - Oldsink Hitless, Streak Ends at 20

For 20 straight games, John Oldsink tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.

Well, the 19-year-old Goodneighbor Hancocks starting pitcher/right fielder can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Warwick Mirelurks. The Mirelurks held him hitless in 5 at-bats at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 20.

There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Hancocks took the win by the score of 8-5.

"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."

He is batting .369 on the season (31 for 84) with nine doubles, a triple, 19 runs, and 16 RBI. As a pitcher, in 10 starts this season Oldsink has rung up a 5-1 record and a 7.40 ERA.

17 June 2297 - RL: Wallace Lifts Scrappers to Win

Egret left-hander Phil Wallace pitched his team to victory over the Vault 81 Dwellers at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. The final score was 5-1. The second-place Scrappers have won 4 in a row.

It was a masterful performance from the popular Wallace, who notched 5 strikeouts in 9 innings while allowing 5 hits. Wallace, who is tied for 8th in the RL with a 1 complete games, goes to 5-4 on the year with 49 strikeouts.

"I had pretty good command out there," said Wallace.

Other Scores:

Shaw 2 at Diamond City 3, 11 inn.
The Swatters grabbed a win, 3-2, at The Great Green Jewel, overcoming a fine effort from Shaw HS pitcher Brad Westing. Westing went 9 innings and allowed 2 runs. Reliever Ricky Six Pack picked up the win. His record improves to 3-3. Tom Mannequin took the loss. The win puts Diamond City at 11-20.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Diamond City second baseman Danny Suarez, facing Tom Mannequin, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Swatters the 3-2 win.

Oberland 5 at Fairline Hill Estates 4
The Oberland T-51s knocked off the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai, 5-4, at BosCom Circle. Prof Castillo was a big reason Oberland won. The left fielder went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The winner was Justin Sumbich in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Bow Rome took the loss. Aaron Still got the save, the 10th for him this season.

The result might have been different, had it not been for Jeremy Bugs, the Oberland third baseman. Bugs had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the T-51s ahead, 5-4. For the game, Bugs had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

18 June 2297 - BL: Assaultrons Top Finch Farm, 4-3, in 13 Innings

The Assaultrons grabbed a win, 4-3, at Easy Town Field, overcoming a fine effort from Finch Farm pitcher Steve Rocky. Rocky went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. The victory gives Easy Town a record of 18-14.

Easy Town won the game in the bottom of the 13th inning. With no outs and Chris Farmman on the mound for Finch Farm, center fielder Sean Samuels hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Assaultrons fans to their feet.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Samuels told WRVR after the game.

Other Scores:

Salem 6 at County Crossing 7
The inspired effort of Salem center fielder Mike Castillo was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-6, to the County Crossing Bloodbugs after the Bloodbugs scored three in the bottom of the ninth. Castillo went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. With the win, the Bloodbugs have a record of 16-16.

The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With County Crossing trailing 6-5, Tom Mastodon hit a fastball from Dan Beantown to left for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Bloodbugs had a walk-off win.

Nordhagen Beach 8 at The Slog 14
Millioncap Go really sizzled at the plate in today's 14-8 win over Party Boys. The The Slog center fielder blistered Nordhagen Beach for 5 hits in 6 at-bats.

Millioncap Go hit a two-run home run off Tommy Beach in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

To date Go has chalked up a .307 average with 2 home runs, driven in 18 runs and scored 29 times.

18 June 2297 - IL: Silver Shroud Score Late to Upend Chemists, 5-4

Behind a fine performance from Micah Morals, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud knocked off the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 5-4. Morals went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Silver Shroud. Fort Hagen now owns a record of 14-18.

Morals had a timely hit for Fort Hagen in the top of the ninth. With Sunshine Tidings trailing 4-3, he turned a first pitch splitter into a 2-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season, making it 5-4, Fort Hagen.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Morals said.

Other Scores:

Jamaica Plain 3 at Quincy 12

It could have been a different outcome for Oberland, had it not been for Chris Milteer, the top prospect . Milteer contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the 14th inning to put Oberland up, 6-5.

The T-51s scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game. The Yao Guai's Dave Crowfoot suffered the blown save, his second of the season.

He permitted 9 hits, had 5 strikeouts and allowed 2 walks.

Looking at his season stats, Stuhlsatz has won 2 and lost 4, collecting 41 strikeouts and 17 walks in 63.2 innings with a 6.79 ERA

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

19 June 2297 - BL: Four Leafs Nip Assaultrons, Tie for 2nd Place

David Tech pitched well, but his team, the Easy Town Assaultrons, still dropped a 3-2 decision to the Finch Farm Four Leafs at Easy Town Field. The win gives Finch Farm a season record of 18-15, as well as the Assaultrons.

The Four Leafs beat the Assaultrons in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Danny Honeycutt produced in the top of the eighth. Batting against Tech, Honeycutt gave his team a 2-1 lead when he hit a 2-run single.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Easy Town manager Graham Route said following the tough loss.

Other Scores:

Salem 8 at County Crossing 2
Salem pitcher Roberto Gonzales did his part in helping his team beat the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 8-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Gonzales got the win, improving to 1-4. He allowed 9 hits and walked 0 over 9 innings. Gonzales allowed 2 runs.

Pistol Schmidt, the fan favorite , had a direct impact on the outcome. Schmidt contributed a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put Salem up, 4-0.

Nordhagen Beach 1 at The Slog 5
The The Slog Ghouls got a good effort from starter Dan Dozier in defeating the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Tarberry Field Forever. The final score was 5-1. With the win, The Slog pushed its record to 21-12.

The Party Boys had trouble solving Dozier, who surrendered 1 run on 6 hits over 9 innings.

19 June 2297 - Four Leafs End Stoops's Streak

It was a doubly miserable day today for Matt Stoops of the Easy Town Assaultrons, as he saw his 21-game hitting streak end and his team lose 3-2 to the Finch Farm Four Leafs at Easy Town Field. The 19-year-old shortstop was held hitless in 4 at-bats by the Four Leafs.

"Anyone on a 21-game hitting streak is going to be a tough out," Finch Farm manager Wiley Boat said later. "But we had a plan and we were careful about it, and got it done."

Stoops is presently batting .411 with 2 home runs, 20 runs scored and 22 RBIs. His OBP is .421.

19 June 2297 - IL: Chemists Roll to 8-1 Win Over Silver Shroud

The Sunshine Tidings Chemists got a strong performance from pitcher Bill Sarnacki, who stymied the Fort Hagen offense en route to a win, 8-1, at ArcJet Systems Stadium. Sarnacki, now 5-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 9, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Sunshine Tidings is now 14-19.

Frank Corsica, the Sunshine Tidings center fielder, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 5-0, Chemists. For the game, Corsica went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI.

"Bill was throwing free and easy," said Sunshine Tidings manager Cozy Burmaster.

Other Scores:

Starlight 0 at Concord 2
An efficient outing for Mario Bustos usually means a win for the Concord Radstags and today was no exception. The 18-year-old right-hander held the Starlight Lady Killers to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 5 and gave up 8 hits in the 2-0 shutout.

So far this season Bustos has a 4-4 record, 11 starts, 59.1 innings, 43 strikeouts and a 6.98 ERA.

Lexington 5 at Abernathy 0
The Lexington Synths picked up a win at Tato Field, knocking off the Abernathy Adamantium, 5-0. On the mound for Lexington was right-hander Chris Morgen, who played a pivotal role in the win. Lexington reliever Chris Morgen got the win, raising his record to 5-4. Neil Watson was tagged with the loss. The triumph puts Lexington at 18-15 for the season.

Lexington used the bat of Crooked Tostado to capture the win. The right fielder jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Synths ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.

19 June 2297 - ML: Hancocks Prevail, 8-7, Over Warwick

Carlos Mungo was a major factor in the 8-7 Goodneighbor win over Warwick. The Hancocks catcher was 2 for 4 with a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Getting the save was Matt Rodrigue, his 10th. The first-place Hancocks have a one-game lead in their division.

Vault 81 used a well-timed hit by Deer Quickwalker to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Dwellers ahead, 4-3. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

2297 Week 11 - The Week in Review

Analysis

The first half of the season has come and gone, and this weekend marked the first weekend of the second half.

The Starlight Lady Killers could be considered one of the winners of the first half along with the Oberland T-51s. But in the second half? Well, the Lady Killers have yet to record a victory after being swept by the suddenly and surprisingly hot Concord Radstags.

The sweep of the Killers marks the Radstags second sweep in four series. They also have won three of their last four series, beating Fort Hagen 2 out of 3 and losing 2 out of 3 to Lexington. The sudden hotness of the Stags have put them just four back of Starlight and just one back of the Synths in the Institute League.

In the Brotherhood League, the Easy Town Assaultrons had been hot, but then ran into a force in the Finch Farm Four Leafs. Though the Trons have the best record over the last 10 in the BL, They slipped from sole possession of second place to a tie with the Leafs. That only benefits first place The Slog, which handled its business like it was expected to against Nordhagen Beach. Right now, the Ghouls have a three-game lead, which could slip away with one poor weekend. For now, though, they are holding their own at the top. Yes, they lost last weekend to the Four Leafs, but they also swept Finch Farm two weeks prior.

In the Railroad League, the T-51s continue to be a machine, er . . . power armor. With the sweep of Fairline Hill Estates, they have now swept three of their last four series (their fifth sweep overall) and won 10 of 11 series on the season. The sole series loss was the surprising sweep at the hands of Vault 81 last month. Oberland has a 6-0 advantage over the Yao Guai, an 8-1 advantage over Diamond City, and a 7-2 advantage over the Shaw Knuckle Punchers. Only the Dwellers have shown success against Oberland, holding a 4-2 advantage. Oberland and Vault 81 play in two weeks.

Speaking of the Dwellers, they may be starting to take hold of being in position to overtake Egret. Though Vault 81 has not looked extraordinary yet this season, they are slowly improving their numbers in the RL. Now, Vault 81 is 2nd in runs allowed (202), though their offense still has a long way to go at 5th in the league (183 runs). 1B Erns Gold has been hot, helping the Dwellers to boost their production. Even more increased productions, and the RL will be an all out Oberland-Vault 81 league.

Finally, we have the Minutemen League. In this case, we are saving the best race for last. It is a repeat of before. Goodneighbor, Warwick, and Quincy are duking it out. It makes one wonder if the two that come out of this league can maintain that intensity in the playoffs. What is certain is that none of the three are willing to fade.

Quincy did what it had to do to stay in the race. Facing a deficit after the series loss at home a week ago to the Hancocks, the Gunners pummeled Jamaica Plain in three straight games, with the closest being a three-run game. That sweep put the Gunners right back into the mix. After being swept by University point two weeks ago, the Hancocks have come back strong with back-to-back series wins against Quincy and the Mirelurks. That puts them in the machinegunner's seat for now. Each of those three have an advantage over one other in the season series, so it is still anyone's league, well, if you're not Atom, the Red Rockets, or the Deathclaws, that is.

21 June 2297 - Players of the Week

Super Week for Salem's Castillo!: Mike Castillo has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 20-year-old center fielder of the Salem Witch Hats had a hot bat in the Brotherhood League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Castillo batted .571 with 8 hits in 14 at-bats, 1 home run and 3 RBIs.

So far this year Castillo is batting .372 with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

IL Honors Player of the Week: Youth was served last week as 18-year-old Mario Bustos put together a remarkable stretch on the mound, outpacing all other Institute League pitchers and hitters to win Player of the Week honors.

The Concord Radstags hurler rang up 5 strikeouts in 9 innings, compiling an ERA of 0.00 and posting a fine 1-0 mark.

To date this year, Bustos shows a 4-4 record, 11 starts, 59.1 innings, 43 strikeouts and a 6.98 ERA.

Driftwood's Strong Week Earns ML Trophy: At the age of 28, David Driftwood might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Quincy right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .571 batting average. For his efforts Driftwood collected the Minutemen League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 8 hits in 14 at-bats, 1 home run and 2 RBIs last week in 3 games.

Driftwood is hitting .333 in 2297 with 26 RBIs and 7 home runs.

Paladin Danse Captures RL Award: His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Paladin Danse was rewarded with the Railroad League Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Egret Scrappers left fielder hit .538 while collecting 7 hits in 13 at-bats, no home runs and 4 RBIs.

In his stats this season, Danse has posted a batting average of .379 with 53 hits in 140 at-bats, 13 home runs and 39 RBIs. He has also scored 29 runs, walked 16 times and compiled a .443 OBP.

22 June 2297 - Why Wait? Shaw Changing to Roxbury

The Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers are dropping the physical location of their stadium for the 2298 season and calling it the area in which they are located: Roxbury.

Team owner Arlen Glass and other team officials held a press conference laying out the plans. Glass stated that nothing much would change other than the team name, which would also mean some changes to the jersey.

"We will proudly be known as Roxbury next season," Glass said. "Roxbury has a ring to it like a baseball town. Using a school name does not give us the aura of power and intensity that we would like."

Asked about the nickname changing to something like the Buttercups in honor of Glass's Wilson Atomatoys' most-famous product, Glass responded, "No, we won't be a toy name. Atomatoys will be a sponsor of the team and Toyland, but we want this baseball team to be a tough one. I consider pugilism to be a toughness that I love. Therefore, the Knuckle Punchers will remain intact."

Glass said that Erin Resiche was still working on jerseys to go along with other artwork they were working on. Shaw had already changed its logo this season to drop SHS from it. Glass said he is considering redoing the logo to have the Roxbury name on it, but there was no progress or announcements at this time. The jersey scheme is expected to remain unchanged, but SHAW HS on the jersey would become Roxbury or perhaps a shortening of that name.

According to team general manager Kyle Wolf, "We asked {Reische] to send us a few prototypes, so we could go with Roxbury or Rox or Bury. We'll see how they look and how our focus groups react." It is believed employees at Fallon's Department Store may be that focus group.

22 June 2297 - Correction

In our story earlier today, I reported that the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers were changing to the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers. There was one inaccurate statement in my story, and boy has the ESAU let me know!

I wrote that the Knuckle Punchers were dropping SHAW HS from their jerseys (road), but they had already dropped HS from the jersey this season. This reporter failed to acknowledge that change and did not check facts. I apologize. I may be as dumb as a box of Roxbury.

I couldn't help myself. I had to see what a Roxbury jersey set would look like. Thanks to the Brockton Rox for copying the Red Sox scheme. Roxbury Knuckle Punchers achieved.
