25 June 2297 - Bloodbugs End Ransom's Streak

The 24-game hitting streak of Joe Ransom has come to an end. The Easy Town Assaultrons first baseman went 0-for-1 today in his team's 13-7 loss to the County Crossing Bloodbugs at Easy Town Field.

Warwick 8 at Atom 7
The inspired effort of Atom second baseman Ray McMillen was not enough to prevent a loss, 8-7, to the Warwick Mirelurks. McMillen was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. Pem Pollack picked up the save, his 12th. The triumph puts Warwick at 21-14 for the season.

Straight QuaLiTy aided the Warwick cause with a 2-run triple in the top of the fourth. For the game, the first baseman was 2-5 with a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 2.

The Scrappers got a big at-bat from left fielder Paladin Danse, who in the bottom of the second hit a run-scoring double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Scrappers on top, 3-0.

Chris Jones chipped in for Shaw HS, stroking a crucial 2-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning. For the game, the pinch hitter went 1 for 1. He drove in 2 runs.

The Vault 81 Dwellers topped the Diamond City Swatters by the score of 14-6, with the largest share of the credit going to left fielder Chris Van Benschoten. Van Benschoten was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 5 for the Dwellers. With the victory, the Dwellers upped their record to 19-16.

With Vault 81 leading 5-0 in the top of the fifth, Van Benschoten came up to bat against Diamond City pitcher Ben Rodgers. Van Benschoten hit a changeup to left for a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season put the Dwellers on top, 8-0.

26 June 2297 - BL: Ghouls Make It 5 In a Row with 7-3 Triumph Over Finch Farm

The Slog left-hander Dan Dozier pitched his team to victory over the Finch Farm Four Leafs at Tarberry Field Forever. The final score was 7-3. Dozier picked up the win for The Slog, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 6-2. The Slog has 5 straight wins, Finch Farm 3 straight losses.

A defensive miscue in the bottom of the sixth cost the Four Leafs. With The Slog trailing 3-2, Stoop Bugwing reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. The Slog ended up winning the ballgame.

"This was a good win for us," said Dozier. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."

Other Scores:

County Crossing 7 at Easy Town 9
Easy Town center fielder Sean Samuels was a significant contributor in his team's 9-7 triumph over the County Crossing Bloodbugs. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for Easy Town. The triumph puts Easy Town at 19-17 for the season.

Samuels contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Easy Town in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 6-5, Samuels took a forkball from Boss Gentleman and stroked the home run to center. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Assaultrons to leap in front, 8-6.

Salem 5 at Nordhagen Beach 7
The Salem Witch Hats got a superb performance from center fielder Mike Castillo, but the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys still won the game, 7-5. Castillo hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Casey Diehl got credit for the win, improving to 4-6. He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits in 6.1 innings.

Casey Diehl's at-bat in the bottom of the second inning was a big one for Nordhagen Beach. Coming to bat with one out, the bases loaded and Nordhagen Beach trailing 2-1, the pitcher hit a sacrifice fly.

26 June 2297 - DHPL: Cartrette Fires 4-0 One-Hitter

Mike Cartrette was sneaky fast, on the mark and hard to hit today. He led the Breakheart Banks Wasteland Whisperers to victory 4-0, blanking the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks on 1 hit. He had 4 walks and 14 strikeouts.

"You know what he's going to throw. You know what to expect. And you still can't hit it," Outpost Zimonja skipper David Troutman told reporters after the shutout loss. "He just had a real deceptive fastball today and he was throwing it for strikes."

This year Cartrette has a 8-4 record and a 3.42 ERA.Last season with Salem, Cartrette was 6-3 with a 5.09 ERA in 14 starts.

Some have wondered why Cartrette is not at least the third pitcher with the Witch Hats behind Terrence Artman and Front Porch Potter. The current third pitcher, Roberto Gonzales, is 1-5 with a 7.32 ERA after losing to Nordhagen Beach today.

26 June 2297 - IL: Radstags Prevail, 7-6, Over Lexington

Shawn Cherry dealt the Synths a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with the bases loaded and Concord leading 5-4, Cherry, who is tied for 6th in the IL with a .377 batting average, hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run single.

"Feels good to get the job done," Laughy said after the game.

Other Scores:

Sunshine Tidings 8 at Abernathy 7
Abernathy shortstop Austin Engill had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Engill was 2-3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2, even as Sunshine Tidings beat the Adamantium, 8-7. Danny Beerholder, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Sunshine Tidings occupies last place in the Institute League at 15-21.

Sunshine Tidings used the clutch hitting of Joe Provisioner to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to give the Chemists the lead, 8-7. For the game, Provisioner had 2 singles and 1 double in 5 at-bats.

Fort Hagen 11 at Starlight 6
Jim Tiller impressed in the 11-6 Fort Hagen win over Starlight. Tiller, who is tied for 10th in the IL with a .959 OPS, was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 6. The 5th-place Silver Shroud improved to 16-20.

Early in the game, Tiller had a 2-run double for Fort Hagen. It was his 16th double of the season and put the Silver Shroud on top, 2-0.

26 June 2297 - ML: Gunners Win at Goodneighbor, Tie for First

Robbie Adams made an impact in the 8-7 Quincy win over Goodneighbor. Adams, who is tied for 5th in the ML in triples with 2, was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Quincy pitcher Martin Talleyrand got the win. He's now 1-0. John Oldsink was tagged with the loss. With the victory, the Gunners upped their record to 22-14.

It could have been a different outcome for Quincy, had it not been for Dan Derp, the 25-year old second baseman . Derp contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Quincy up, 8-7.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Derp said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

Other Scores:

Warwick 11 at Atom 3
A good performance from left fielder Patty Cuttooth helped the Warwick Mirelurks defeat the Atom Cats, 11-3, and gain a share of first place. Cuttooth went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 4 times for the Mirelurks. Warwick now has a record of 22-14 with the win.

It could have been a different outcome for Warwick, had it not been for Shawn Robco, the 23-year old center fielder . Robco contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Warwick up, 6-3.

Jamaica Plain 13 at University Point 7
With left fielder Bryan Benton leading the charge, the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets defeated the University Point Deathclaws, 13-7, at Gwinnett Brewery Park. Benton was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times. The Red Rockets sport a record of 13-23.

Jamaica Plain used the timely hitting of Steve Baron to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Rockets on top, 8-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

26 June 2297 - RL: Yao Guai Get 6-4 Win Versus Egret

The Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai beat the Egret Scrappers by a score of 6-4. center fielder Noah Arch deserved the lion's share of the credit. Arch went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles for the Yao Guai. Papa Bush picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-4. He struck out 12 in 7.2 innings. Earning his 3rd save for Fairline Hill Estates was Dave Crowfoot.

With Fairline Hill Estates leading 3-2 in the top of the sixth, Arch hit a run-scoring single off Egret hurler Brian Dingo. It was the 64th hit of the season for Arch and put his team ahead, 4-2.

Arch expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."

Fairline Hill Estates now owns a record of 16-20.

Other Scores:

Vault 81 3 at Diamond City 7
Getting offensive support from Nasty Byrd, the Diamond City Swatters topped the Vault 81 Dwellers, 7-3. Byrd went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for the Swatters. The Swatters raised their record to 13-23.

Random Terminal

**** was rummaging through some old terminal holotapes stored in Vault 81. This one looked interesting. There was something so familiar about the ice man. Nate was frozen in Vault 111. Did "Jenny Murphy" see Nate?

A Few Boston Bugle Issues

Remember the time before now when newspapers were a part of our everyday lives? Yeah, me neither.

Here are some pre-War Boston Bugle issues. From this dynasty author, the last was on my 100th birthday. Don't worry, I was still young then.

Heh, that's some killer inflation between the last two papers! (Seeing the super inflation in pre-war prices in Fallout always makes me chuckle)

2297 Week 12 - The Week in Review

Analysis

Well, well, well. Oberland is human after all. This past weekend, the T-51s got Knuckle Punched by the Shaw Knuckle Punchers, the same team excited to announce this past week that they would be changing to the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers in 2298.

With the recent hot streak by The Slog Ghouls, Oberland now only has a one-game lead for top record in the CBO. Considered to be the toughest top-to-bottom league, the Brotherhood League is a harder league to play in than the Railroad League. Therefore the Ghouls' success, like in 2297, cannot be underestimated.

Let's jump from the very top of the CBO to the surprising very bottom. A playoff team in 2296, the Atom Cats have been atrocious this season, and they will probably be sellers next month. This is a team hard to understand. Technically, the Cats are much better than the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, with a -45 run differential versus a -71 run diffferential. Atom is also doing better than the Salem Witch Hats of the Brotherhood League and Diamond City Swatters of the Railroad League in that respect. Still, the Cats play in the toughest league as far as the top is concerned, and those losses have been piling up. The Cats are 0-6 versus Goodneighbor, 1-2 versus Quincy, and 4-8 versus Warwick. They do own a winning record against Jamaica Plain at 5-4, but that is it.

In a continuation of fan service, the team that likes to have the most fun is worth a mention of hope. The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys are still not in it to win it, at least as far as we know, but they do take on their favorite opponent next weekend when they travel to County Crossing. The Boys are just three games back of second-place Easy Town. At one point, the Party Boys looked like they were figuring out the bullpen problem, rising as high as second in the BL in bullpen ERA, but that has fallen off again to fifth (4.51). The starters have been atrocious but ace Julian Shed is good (6-2, 3.64). Tommy Beach (1-4, 8.02) and Casey Diehl (4-6, 7.23) are not cutting it. If Nordhagen Beach decides to sell--Dustin Mart, Tomas Jones, or Tommy Talkington--they need to get really good pitching prospects in their place.

Perhaps closer to the playoff hunt is a team in the tightest division, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. Just three games out of the wildcard race, the Shroud may benefit most by knowing first-place Starlight is not on their schedule for the rest of the season, though they have been decently successful against them at 6-6. What that means, though, is Fort Hagen is in full control of their own destiny. They will need to be much better in their nine remaining versus Abernathy (1-2), three with Concord (3-6) and six with Lexington (2-4). The Shroud can chip away, but they need to consistently win and a 14-10 finish would seem like a chance. A better finish, and they will probably be in.

Here's an anomaly. In the Railroad League, the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai are tied for first in the league in runs scored (223) and second in runs allowed (211). Yet, they are in sole posession of 5th place in the division. Do you remember Hose Wallcrawler in 2297? He did OK, but nothing like what he is doing this season. Unless there is a huge fall off, Crawler may win what's called a Triple Crown in the RL. Currently he leads in all three TC categories (.417/14/48). Should the rest of the team catch up, the Yao Guai should be able to vault the Dwellers, Scrappers, and Punchers.

28 June 2297 - Players of the Week

BL Presents Player of the Week Trophy: 18-year-old C.T. Woodard sent shock waves through Brotherhood League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Brotherhood League Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Woodard made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .500 average, 7 hits in 14 at-bats, 1 home run and 2 RBI.

Where the The Slog Ghouls second baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Woodard certainly made his mark last week.

This season Woodard is batting at a .304 clip with 2 home runs and 19 RBIs.

Week's Premier Performer Honored by IL: At the age of 26, Steve Settler might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Abernathy first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .692 batting average. For his efforts Settler collected the Institute League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 9 hits in 13 at-bats, 1 home run and 3 RBIs last week in 3 games.

Settler is currently batting .357 with 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has 56 hits in 157 at-bats.

Week's Best Player Honored by ML: Robbie Adams has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 20-year-old shortstop of the Quincy Gunners had a hot bat in the Minutemen League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Adams batted .667 with 8 hits in 12 at-bats, no home runs and 4 RBIs.

This season Adams is batting .292 with 40 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 17 times and has 31 RBI.

Phillips on a Hot Streak, RL Player of the Week: So far in his young career, Travis Phillips has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Railroad League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 17-year-old Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers shortstop hit at a torrid .417 clip as he collected 5 hits in 12 at-bats, 3 home runs, 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

This year Phillips is hitting at a .246 pace with 6 home runs and 17 RBIs. He has played in 36 games and scored 17 times.

The Slog's Tentsleep Collects June Batting Honor: The Slog Ghouls fans believe they've got a talented young star in Lernz Tentsleep.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in June, as he hit .380 with 7 home runs, 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

The end result was the shortstop being named the Brotherhood League Batter of the Month.

In the current season, Tentsleep has put up a .370 batting average with 60 hits, 15 home runs, 45 runs batted in and scored 41 runs.

Shed Nabs BL #1 Pitcher Award: When the Party Boys skipper wrote Shed on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in June he took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 3-0 mark and 2.35 ERA in 4 starts. The gifted Party Boys star pitched 30.2 innings, fanned 22 and held opposing teams to a .224 average.

For his excellent mound work Shed was named the BL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

In 12 starts this season Shed has crafted a 6-2 record with a 3.64 ERA.

BL Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Youngster Biter Trout emerged as the latest Brotherhood League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from County Crossing deserved the honor, batting .310 with 2 home runs and 10 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Trout enjoy the limelight.

This year Trout is hitting .273 with 2 home runs.

Institute League

Tiller Snares IL Top Batter Award in June: At only 19 years of age, Jim Tiller could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, as June was one to remember for the first baseman and he has captured the Institute League Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .412 with 2 home runs, 16 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

This year Bustos has a 5-4 record with a 7.09 ERA.

Institute League Names Rookie of Month: Cram Garge earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Institute League for last month's performance. The boyish Concord center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

In 12 games Garge is hitting .273 this season with 3 hits, 1 home run, 4 RBIs, 1 walk, .333 OBP and has scored 3 runs.

His stats sheet for the year shows Hitless has managed to hold opponents to a .234 average in 5 relief appearances, while putting up 1-0 record with 16 strikeouts and 3 walks in 12 innings. He has a 4.50 ERA with no saves.

Pitcher of the Month

Rude Picks up CL Monthly Pitching Honor: 31-year-olds don't often go 3-1 in and haul away the best pitcher award, but Melvin Rude did all that. Now, he's the toast of the Cambridge League. Today he was crowned the Pitcher of the Month for June.

In 4 starts he posted a 1.41 ERA and struck out 12 batters in 32 innings.

1 July 2297 - BL: Mastodon Leads Bloodbugs to Win

County Crossing left fielder Tom Mastodon was a significant contributor in his team's 8-4 triumph over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. He was 4 for 4 with a triple, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for County Crossing. Bad Company Grognak, the winner, goes to 7-3. He allowed 4 runs on 11 hits, with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts over 9 innings. With the win, County Crossing raised its record to 19-18.

There was more than one reason the Bloodbugs beat the Party Boys, but Mastodon's big at-bat in the bottom of the second was an important factor. He staked his team to a 3-1 lead when he hit a 2-run single.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Mastodon.

Other Scores:

The Slog 4 at Easy Town 2, 13 inn.
The Slog Ghouls starter Edwin Mass seemed to have pitched his team past the Easy Town Assaultrons leaving the game in the ninth up 1-0. However, a single run by the Assaultrons in the ninth pushed this one to extra innings.

The Slog relied on the hitting of Shane LeTato to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 2-run single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Ghouls on top, 4-2. For the game, LeTato had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

Finch Farm 6 at Salem 3
Finch Farm right-hander Matt Pageturner pitched his team to victory over the Salem Witch Hats at Vim! Park of Salem. The final score was 6-3. Pageturner picked up the win for Finch Farm, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 9 hits. He now sports a record of 7-5. Getting the save was Steve Warwar, his 7th.

The result might have been different, had it not been for Joe Mahaney, the Finch Farm first baseman. Mahaney had a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Four Leafs ahead, 6-3. For the game, Mahaney had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With one out, Drinkwater hit a fastball from Marc Pondsip for a run-scoring single. The Gunners, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

The Salem Witch Hats picked up a win at Vim! Park of Salem, knocking off the Finch Farm Four Leafs, 3-1. Starting pitcher Front Porch Potter was a big reason why. In 8 innings, Potter surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. The win puts Salem at 15-24.

Dan Beantown recorded a big out in the top of the ninth. The Four Leafs were trailing 3-1, but Finch Farm had runners on 1st and 2nd with two out. Beantown threw a 2-2 fastball to Gary, who struck out.

The Slog 9 at Easy Town 1
The Slog got a strong outing from Tyler Storts in his first start after a callup from Outpost Zimonja as the Ghouls defeated the Easy Town Assaultrons, 9-1, at Easy Town Field. With the victory, the Ghouls upped their record to 27-12.

The Slog relied on the hitting of Lernz Tentsleep to pick up the win. The shortstop ripped a 2-run triple in the top of the fifth inning to put the Ghouls on top, 5-0. For the game, Tentsleep had 1 triple and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

3 July 2297 - IL: Provisioner goes 3-for-4, Leads Chemists to Win

The timely hitting of Joe Provisioner helped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists down the Starlight Lady Killers, 9-8. Provisioner went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Chemists. Tiny Greene collected his 9th save. The current losing streak for Starlight has reached 4 games. They are 1-8 in the second half of the season, dropping their division lead down to a single game.

Provisioner had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from John Walden, he banged a grand slam home run to right, giving the Chemists a 9-7 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Provisioner.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Provisioner told BNN.

Starlight manager Tick Raid refused to speak after the game but he was obviously upset at his team's performance of late. We'll tell you more from the weekly press conference if Raid speaks then.

Other Scores:

Lexington 8 at Fort Hagen 4, 13 inn.
Crooked Tostado was a vital contributor to the 8-4 Lexington victory over Fort Hagen. The Synths right fielder was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. The win was credited to Tom Chryslus in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Joe Verti took the loss. The win for the Synths raised their record to 21-18.

Lexington took a 6-4 lead on Mike Pigeonfoot's 12th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Pigeonfoot hit in the top of the 13th, left Fort Hagen pitcher Handsome Frank shaking his head.

Concord 6 at Abernathy 4
Despite a fine performance by left fielder Chris Hirshfield, the Abernathy Adamantium lost to the Concord Radstags, 6-4. Hirshfield went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Mario Bustos got the win, improving to 6-4. He worked 7.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 12 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. The save was credited to Bell Franklin, his 5th.

Kevin Havenot, the 24-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Havenot contributed a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to put Concord up, 4-0.

3 July 2297 - ML: Deathclaws Prevail, 6-4, Over Quincy

University Point picked up a win at The Stone House, toppling the Quincy Gunners, 6-4. Pitcher Gary Stallworth was one of the reasons the Deathclaws triumphed. University Point is now 18-21, Quincy 24-15.

Jason Harris, the 18-year old second baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Harris contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put University Point up, 3-0.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Stallworth.

Other Scores:

Warwick 6 at Jamaica Plain 5
Despite a great performance by Jamaica Plain first baseman Cody Flatt, the Warwick Mirelurks defeated the Red Rockets by the score of 6-5 at Red Rockets Stadium. Flatt was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Pem Pollack earned the save, his 14th, for the Mirelurks. The triumph puts Warwick at 24-15 for the season.

Warwick used the timely hitting of Melon Sanderson to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mirelurks on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Atom 13 at Goodneighbor 4
The Atom Cats handed the Goodneighbor Hancocks a loss at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. The final score was 13-4. Will Ashfire was one of the major contributors for Atom. In addition to his 2 singles and 1 home run, he scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Wyatt Wallace got the win, improving to 3-9. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Atom, with the win, sits at 13-26.

Atom relied on the hitting of Luis Lopez to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the first inning to put the Cats on top, 7-0. For the game, Lopez had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

3 July 2297 - Cats End Hayes' Streak

Jumper Hayes came rolling into today's game against the Atom Cats with a 23-game hitting string, but he left it on the field at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS.

The 17-year-old Goodneighbor Hancocks second baseman went 0-for-2 against the Cats as the Hancocks fell, 13-4.

"I swung at a couple pitches I probably shouldn't have and I didn't swing at a couple I probably should have," he said, grimacing. "But that's what makes a hit streak so impressive in the first place -- it only takes a couple mistakes to end it all."

This year Hayes has hit at a .381 clip with 39 RBIs, 6 home runs and 35 runs scored.

3 July 2297 - RL: Dwellers Drop T-51s, 5-4

A 3-RBI performance from third baseman Terry O'Dell, who finished 5th in the RL in doubles with 22 last year, led the Vault 81 Dwellers to a win over the Oberland T-51s, 5-4. Vault 81 now has a record of 20-19 with the win.

Vault 81 relied on the bat of Knud Bather to get the win. The shortstop ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Dwellers ahead, 4-3. For the game, Bather had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Oberland manager Dirk Steadyhand.

Other Scores:

Diamond City 4 at Egret 3
The Diamond City Swatters completed a road sweep at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina, knocking off the Egret Scrappers, 4-3. On the mound for Diamond City was left-hander Danny Owens, who played a pivotal role in the win. Owens went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-6. The losing streak for Egret has now reached 4 games.

The result might have been different for Diamond City, had it not been for Wally Warwick. The shortstop produced a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Swatters ahead, 4-3. For the game, Warwick had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

Shaw 4 at Fairline Hill Estates 5, 10 inn.
Mike Thunderdome did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers from losing, 5-4, to the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai at BosCom Circle. Thunderdome went 4 for 6 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Fairline Hill Estates reliever Dave Crowfoot got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Tom Mannequin was tagged with the loss. Fairline Hill Estates has now won 4 straight.

The Yao Guai relied on shortstop Hose Wallcrawler for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.

July 2297 - News and Notes - July 4

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

4 July 2297 - Red, White, and Blue Weekend for the CBO and BMU

The Commonwealth major and minor leagues celebrated Red, White, and Blue Weekend, something Commissioner Nate Howard said he would like to make a tradition. Twenty-four stadiums across the CBO and BMU leagues were decorated in red, white, and blue streamers and ribbons and tattered American flags.

This weekend was a celebration of the USA's founding 521 years ago on July 4, 1776. This land that we call the Commonwealth was actually one of 13 Commonwealths across the United States. The Boston area was part of the New England Commonwealth. And in our own celebration, we are not official, but we have been operating under our own United Commonwealth ever since Howard defrosted from Vault 111.

This weekend, all stadiums served hot dogs, even for stadiums where it is not a part of their typical menu. Some had Lucky (Lukowski) Dogs, while some had Cram Dogs and others had Mongrel Dogs. Howard has said his version of the hot dog is not the same as it was in 2077, but it should be a new, tasty treat he hopes will become popular at the ball parks. Some areas of the Commonwealth enjoyed the new food item and have made them a regular part of the ballpark experience.

Happy Red, White, and Blue Weekend, CBO and BMU!

4 July 2297 - Starlight Manager Speaks

Following a poor streak for Institute League first-place team, the Starlight Lady Killers, manager Tick Raid has been in a foul mood. After they were swept yesterday afternoon, Raid ordered his team to pack up and leave Sunshine Tidings Co-op without changing.

This morning, Raid had the Lady Killers on the practice field, something that has not happened on a Sunday morning in the CBO. After practice, Raid, who berated his players the entire practice, addressed the press.

"I'm probably the least liked person in the Commonwealth," Raid said. "We don't have a Dark Brotherhood Guild around here, do we?"

Raid did not explain what that meant, but we quoted him anyway.

On June 12, Starlight was 21-9 with a four-game lead on 2nd place Lexington and a seven-game lead on 3rd place Concord. Since then, the Killers have been 1-8, the Synths 4-5, and the Radstags 7-2. That means the three teams are now within a game of each other.

"Suddenly we can't score runs like we need to," Raid said. "In six of our last few losses, we scored, let me look, 1, 2, 1, 0, 1, 2."

In the last weekend's sweep at the hands of the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, the Killers lost 6-5, 4-2 in 10 innings, and 9-8.

Raid went on about pitching. "City [Moore] was 10-0. Now he lost three straight. Not just lost. He also gave up the most runs or tied for the most in two of those. We can't win a league if City can't win a game. Our bullpen suddenly looks terrible, too. We dropped to over a 5 ERA" (5.28, 4th in the IL).

Raid continued with this: "The Killers better start living up to their name and playing ball, or they're sleeping with the brahmin next week."

Starlight gets to turn it around or fall behind in the next two weekends. Next weekend, they travel to Lexington and then they host the Radstags the following weekend.

"We can get it back," Raid said. "Win the next two series, and we're in control. Lose the next two, and we're looking up in the playoff race."

Raid was planning to meet with some team leaders, including player-appointed team leaders catcher Hope Scrapper, ace Moore, and left fielder Jesus Church. Pitcher Bobby Tippecanoe and shortstop Silt Bean, who have a good relationship with Raid, were expected to be in on the coach-team leaders meeting.

Not that Starlight is one of the team's I'm particularly attached to, but they are the team that the in-universe version of me would have a lot of caps riding on for a season long bet, given my earlier comments, so I hope they can turn it around

I'll give them a little more analysis in my Week's recap below, but I have to think they're on a string of very bad luck. It "seems" like they are better than Concord and Lexington, but like Raid said, if they don't score runs, they won't win games consistently enough to go anywhere.

2297 Week 13 - The Week in Review

Analysis

The buzz around the CBO this week is the sudden collapse of the Starlight Lady Killers and the renewed hope for every other team in the Institute League. With a 1-8 start in the second half of the season, the Concord Radstags and Lexington Synths have overtaken the Killers in the Weekly Power Rankings.

Although Lexington has not been hot itself, it still has won 4 out of its last 9 to sit just a game back of Starlight. Concord is the ream on fire, being only outmatched by the Brotherhood League's The Slog Ghouls in the entirety of the CBO.

The Radstags have done it with both solid pitching and sometimes dominating offense, including a 16-1 shellacking of the Killers on June 17, the first game of the "new" season in our splitting of halves. One thing about the Concord team is that there is no one real standout player, but half of a team clearly thriving. That includes five players batting over .300, with the assumed star LF Dan Erb leading the way with a .364 mark. No player for Concord has yet to hit 10 home runs--1B Jason Robinson is close with 9--but the Stags lead the IL in home runs with 47, including six who have at least six. Pitching is still not good compared to the rest of the league, but ace Chris Radsco (5-5, 3.52) has been much more productive. Closer Bell Franklin (5 sv, 2.19) has been good.

In other areas of the Commonwealth, the Minutemen League's three-team race continues to be exciting with the bottom three pretty much out of the running. That means two of Quincy, Warwick, and Goodneighbor are going to get a chance to win it all, while the third team watches and what-ifs their way through the offseason. We have been waiting for one team to take control or another to start to fade back to the middle, but that has not happened yet, and we hope it stays that way. All three of the top teams get a "rest" week this week since they have home stands against the bottom three. Surprisingly enough, it looks like the Gunners get the best matchup when they host the Atom Cats (13-26, worst in the CBO). We can almost guarantee the Gunners win two or three in that series.

In other leagues, number one seems all but set unless the Ghouls (BL) and Oberland T-51s (RL) start fading like the Lady Killers recently did. Each of The Slog and the T-51s hold a seven-game lead with just 21 to play. The Ghouls have a tougher go next week when they travel to second-place County Crossing (20-19), while Oberland will be visiting fourth-place Egret (18-21).

July 2297 - News and Notes - July 5

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

5 July 2297 - Players of the Week

BL Awards Best Batter Prize to Tentsleep: Lernz Tentsleep has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 19-year-old shortstop of the The Slog Ghouls had a hot bat in the Brotherhood League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Tentsleep batted .600 with 9 hits in 15 at-bats, 1 home run and 7 RBIs.

Tentsleep is hitting at a .390 mark this season. His stats show 16 home runs, 52 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has played 39 games for the Ghouls.

People Wins IL Player of the Week: At the age of 28, Justin People might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Starlight shortstop put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .583 batting average. For his efforts People collected the Institute League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 7 hits in 12 at-bats, 1 home run and 4 RBIs last week in 3 games.

This season People is batting .331 with 47 hits and 5 home runs. He has scored 24 times and has 28 runs batted in.

Player of the Week Trophy to Stabb: Shane "Bee's Knees" Stabb is respected by most Atom Cats fans for his no-frills style of play. The 20-year-old third baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Minutemen League Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .583 average (7-for-12) with 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

In 2297 Stabb has hit at a .300 clip with 48 hits, 6 home runs, 28 RBIs and has scored 18 times.

Week's Premier Performer Honored by RL: 26-year-old Mike Thunderdome sent shock waves through Railroad League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Railroad League Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Thunderdome made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .625 average, 10 hits in 16 at-bats, no home runs and 5 RBI.

Where the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers center fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Thunderdome certainly made his mark last week.

Thunderdome is currently batting .306 with 1 home run and 20 RBIs.

2297 Mock Draft

I don't understand the order that is generated for this mock draft other than it seems random. That is not how I have my draft set to be, so it looks like I need to manually move every team into the propoer slot before the actual draft.

Anyway, this gives you an idea of the talent coming into the lague in the 2297 Rookie Draft in October.

I followed your lead for my league and set the draft after the league concludes, a long with a lengthy time period for the draft pool to be revealed (which I assume you have too) and have found that at the time the draft pool is revealed the draft order is wrong, but when it comes time for the actual draft it fixes itself without intervention needed. Though that said, just because it worked for me, doesn't mean it'll work for you, so by all means fix it manually for some piece of mind if that's preferable.
