Walkers news: June 23 -- St. Louis 4, Detroit 3

Record: 32-46, 7th, 11 GB Cedar Rapids
Down 3-2, St. Louis tallied two times in the top of the fifth inning and held on to defeat Detroit 4-3 at Tiger Stadium (1980).
The red-hot Roger Ramos had put the Diesels in front with a two-run homer off River Walkers starting pitcher Brent Autin in the bottom of the third.
Mark Waterson got things going for St. Louis in the top of the fifth with a single off former Walkers prospect with Danny Burch.
Mike Vaughn followed with a double, putting runner on second and third.
Vaughn left the game with a back injury.
Autin attempted to get down a bunt, but was unsuccessful.
Somehow, Waterson avoided the tag at the plate to score the tying run.
Mark Herman, who had hit a two-run homer off Burch in the third, then put St. Louis ahead with a single to right as pinch-runner Tom Blevins crossed the plate.
Autin (9-5) went six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out four and walked five.
Juan Munoz started the seventh and got an out but also allowed two base runners.
Leo Hermosillo came on to get out of the inning without allowing a run.
He followed that with a scoreless eighth.
Closer Tom Floria gave up a one-out single to Roc Riggio in the ninth, but nothing else to earn his 12th save.

Walkers news: June 24 -- Vaughan placed on injured list; Longoria called up from Memphis

The St. Louis River Walkers have placed catcher Mike Vaughan on the 14-day injured list after he injured his back in a 4-3 win at Detroit.
Vaughan, 37, is expected to be ready to return at the end of his injury time.
In 41 games/33 starts this season, Vaughan has hit .220 with two RBIs.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is 35-year Carlos Longoria.
Longoria has played three games for St. Louis with two starts. He has yet to get a hit.
His results with Memphis a similar, having played in six games/four starts with no hits.

Walkers news: June 24 -- St. Louis 4, Detroit 3

Record: 33-46, 7th, 10 GB Cedar Rapids
Agustin Perdomo allowed two runs on four hits over the first six innings to help St. Louis defeat Detroit 4-3 at Tiger Stadium (1980).
The victory gave the River Walkers a split of the four-game-series.
St. Louis jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
Nick Shaw led off the second with a single off Diesels starting pitcher Jason Scott.
A Quiang Chang double moved him to third.
Shaw scored on a Joe Allen ground out.
Tom Blevins connected on a two-run homer off reliever Willie Luna in the sixth, giving the Walkers a 3-0 lead.
Roger Ramos remained red-hit connecting on a two-run homer off Perdomo in the sixth as Detroit climbed back to within 3-2.
Ryan Wibbenmeyer singled to lead off the eighth off Diesels reliever Joseph Wilson.
Two more singles loaded the bases for the Walkers, Blevins made it 4-2 with deep fly ball to right.
Detroit knocked around St. Louis closer Tom Floria in the ninth.
Carlos Solis led off with a single and Roc Riggio doubled with two outs, putting runners at second and third.
Adam Strattton then singled, scoring Solis and making it 4-3.
Juan Munoz replaced Floria and struck out pinch-hitter Jason Sexton to end the game.
Perdomo (1-1) went six innings, allowing one runs on four hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Kyle Smarr (0.1 IP) and Curt Donaldson (0.2) combined to pitch a scoreless seventh.
Carlos Hernandez didn't allow the Diesels to score in the eighth.
Floria (0.2 IP) and Munoz (0.1) kept Detroit from tying it in the ninth.
The save was the seventh of the season for Munoz.

St. Louis starting pitcher Ming Xiang got two runs in the top of the first inning and he made it stand up as the River Walkers downed Quad City 2-1 at Busch Stadium (2006).
Mark Herman doubled with one out off Thunder starting pitcher Antonio Ceja in the bottom of the first.
Walks to Nick Shaw and Jose Segura later loaded the bases with two outs.
Mark Waterson made it 2-0 with a single up the middle.
That turned out to be enough for Xiang.
Xiang (6-7) would end up going seven innings, allowing one runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked one.
The lone QC run came in the top of the second on an RBI double by Shawn Jackson.
Xiang got Keith Reiter to ground out to end the inning.
Juan Munoz worked two innings of relief for his eighth save.

Walkers news: June 27 -- Segura to injured list; Josh Hurley called up from AAA Memphis

The St. Louis River Walkers have placed veteran outfielder Jose Segura on the 14-day injured list after he suffered a back injury in a 2-1 win over Quad City on June 26.
Segura, 35, is expected to miss up to two weeks.
In 44 games with the Walkers this season, 32 starts, Segura has hit .213 with seven homers, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
Getting his first callup to the majors is 27-year-old outfielder Josh Hurley.
Acquired from Green Bay in an offseason trade, Hurley has hit .307 with 10 homers, 51 RBIs and 45 runs scored this season in 69 games at Memphis.

Kevin Hrdlicka shut out Quad City over the first seven innings one hit over the first seven inning to help lead St. Louis to a 4-1 win at Busch Stadium (2006).
Hrdlicka (6-5) took a no-hitter into the sixth before Tony Nolasco doubled with two outs
He exited after allowing a walk to Paul Totten and single to Collin Allen to open the seventh.
For the game, Hrdlicka allowed the two hits while striking out eight and issuing two walks. He threw 90 pitches.
The River Walkers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third off Thunder starting pitcher Jon Blount.
Ryan Wibbenmeyer, who went 3 for 4 in the game, led off with a single and after a pair of walks the bases were loaded.
Blount got Nick Shaw to fly out to shallow left.
But the next hitter, rookie Josh Hurley, making his MBL debut flew deep enough to left to score Wibbenmeyer.
St. Louis added two more runs in the fourth.
Back-to-back singles by Adam Stewart and Hrdlicka opened the inning and chased Blount.
Bryce Watt took over and was greeted by a Wibbemeyer double.
Hrdlicka later scored when Manuel Coke hit into a double play.
A pinch-hit double by Tommy Gardner off Wally Lawson scored Quiang Chang in the seventh and make it 4-0.
Chang had reached on an error by pitcher William Myers.
Curt Donaldson replaced Hrdlicka with two on and no outs in the seventh.
He got out of the inning unscathed chiefly by getting Farrell, who was pinch-hitting to hit into a double play.
QC got its lone run in the eighth off Chris Willett on a pinch-hit homer by Pang Shi.
Tom Floria earned his 13th save with a scoreless ninth.

Down 3-1, Manuel Coke hit a three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to help lift St. Louis to a 4-3 win over Quad City at Busch Stadium (2006).
The victory gave the River Walkers a sweep of the three-game series.
Thunder relief pitcher Kevin Vitale dug his own grave hitting pinch-hitter Mark Waterson with a pitch to begin the inning.
He then walked Ryan Wibbenmeyer to put two aboard.
Mark Herman flew out to right for the first out.
But Coke turned on a 1-1 pitch and drove it 398 feet over the right-field wall for his 18th homer of the season.
Coke drove in all four St. Louis runs, plating the first with a two-out double off Thunder starter Benito Diaz in the bottom of the fifth.
QC jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second off St. Louis starter Juan Farias.
Devin Prinzing drove in the first run with a single.
The second scored when Benito Diaz grounded out.
It's lead down to 2-1, QC's Shawn Jackson connected on an RBI single off Leo Hermosillo with two outs in the eighth.
That made it 3-1 and set the stage for Coke's big hit.
Farias went six innings; he was charged with all three Thunder runs and gave up nine hits.
He struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
Hermosillo (0.2 IP) and Evan Palmer (0.1) combined to pitch the seventh when QC got its third run.
Chris Willett worked a scoreless eighth.
Juan Munoz did the same in the ninth for his ninth save.

Record: 36-47, 5th/(Tied/w. Los Angeles and Quad City), 7 GB Cedar Rapids
Rockford starting pitcher Pablo Maldonaldo threw five shutout innings and the Lightning bullpen allowed just one run the rest of the way as it downed St. Louis 3-1 at Busch Stadium (2006).
Maldonaldo (8-4) allowed three hits (two singles and a double) during his time on the mound. He struck out five and walked two.
While Maldonaldo was pitching, Rockford was taking a 2-0 lead.
Javy Monjaraz hit a solo homer off River Walkers starting pitcher Brent Autin with two outs in the top of the second.
Two innings later, the Lightning struck together three straight singles -- from Jared Braude, Monjaraz and Yui Watanbe -- to score its second run.
Duncan Littleton made it 3-0 in the top of the seventh with a two-out homer off Autin.
Four relievers, Jesse McNaboe, Ferrie Stolk, Tony Santana and Matt Whitmore, closed out the game with an inning apiece.
The lone St. Louis run came in the seventh when Alex Stewart hit a two-out homer off Stolk.
Whitmore posted his 14th save.

Record: 37-47, 5th/(Tied/w. Los Angeles), 7 GB Cedar Rapids
Trailing 3-2, St. Louis scored four times in the bottom of the third inning and went on to defeat Rockford 6-4 at Busch Stadium (2006) in a game ended after 5.5 innings because of rain.
The Lightning had taken their 3-2 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning off River Walkers starting pitcher Agustin Perdomo.
David Blanton drove in the first run when Manny Little scored from third on a ground out.
Jared Braude followed with a run-scoring double, making it 3-2.
In the bottom of the inning, Nick Shaw got things rolling for the Walkers with a one-out double off Rockford starting pitcher Gary Snelling.
The next three St. Louis hitters would also reach base.
Joe Allen drew a walk.
Rookie Josh Hurley doubled, scoring Shaw to tie the game.
Tommy Gardner then drew the second walk of the inning.
Carlos Longoria put St. Louis in front when he grounded out, scoring Allen.
Perdomo followed that by plating a pair with a double.
Perdomo (2-1) earned the win by going five innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked three.
Curt Donaldson got the first two outs in the sixth before the rain hit.
It was Donaldson's first save since joining St. Louis.

Walkers news: July 1 -- Team awards for June

Player of the Month: Manuel Coke -- The 27-year-old outfielder batted .293 with eight homers, 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored in 27 games. He got on base at a .363 clip and slugged .670.
Starting Pitcher of the Month: Kevin Hrdlicka -- The 28-year-old right-hander made five starts going 3-1 with a 1.59 ERA. He pitched a total of 28.1 innings, during which he struck out 32 and had a 1.27 WHIP.
Relief Pitcher of the Month: Curt Donaldson -- The recently acquired 30-year-old right-hander got into 16 games going 0-2 with one save and a 1.93 ERA. He pitched 14.0 innings, striking out 14 and posting a 1.14 WHIP.
