Season & Career Batting Records
Though limited sample size of just 2 years, there are several outstanding batting and pitching record performances that warranted sharing.

Game 1: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
In an opening match-up of arguably the American League's two best pitchers, a sellout crowd of 6,937 fans watched as the Washington Senators (1-0) topped the Boston Americans (0-1) in an extra-innings thriller by the score of 5 to 4.
Rube Waddell (1-0) went the distance, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, 1 walk, 1 hit batsman, while striking out 9 to finish with a Game Score of 77. Game 2: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression. Well, for rookie pitcher Doc Scanlan it was a rough first impression for the hometown fans as the Boston Americans (1-1) thumped the Washington Senators (1-1) by a score of 14 to 2.
As the 10th overall pick in the 1902 draft, Scanlon (0-1) was seen as a top of the rotation level pitcher whose stuff was projected to baffle hitters. His first outing though ended after 3 2/3 innings in which he allowed 9 runs (8 earned) on 10 hits, 2 walks, and 1 wild pitch to finish with a Game Score of 4. Alex Pearson was brought in for 4 1/3 innings in which he allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 3 hits and 3 walks. In a surprising call to the pen, Rube Waddell was brought in for the final inning of relief after pitching a complete game the day prior. On the other side of the ledger is veteran pitcher Cy Young who continues to fend off father time, this outing being no exception as Young (1-0) allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits and 1 walk for a Game Score of 68. The Americans had a busy day at the plate and on the base paths. Leading the way for the team was Chick Stahl (1 for 3, Double, 3 Runs, 2 RBIs, 2 Walks), Fred Clarke (2 for 3, 3 Runs, 1 RBI, 2 Walks), Bill Lange (2 for 6, 3 Runs, 2 Stolen Bases), and Jiggs Donahue (2 for 6, 2 Runs, 2 Stolen Bases). Willie Keeler (2 for 4, Triple, 1 RBI) and Danny Green (1 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 Walk) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Cy Young (Season: #1 / Career: #33)

Game 3: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
A 3-run 8th inning gave the Washington Senators (2-1) the lead and ultimately the victory over the Boston Americans (1-2) by a 4 to 3 score. The loss placed the Americans in the unfamiliar territory of having a losing record - YIKES!
Jack Chesbro (1-0) picked up the win by allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 2 walks; Game Score of 61. Jesse Tannehill was tagged with the loss after serving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits to finish with a Game Score of 55. The Senators were led at the plate by Cy Seymour (1 for 4, Homerun, 1 Run, 3 RBIs), Willie Keeler (2 for 4, 1 RBI), and Danny Green (2 for 3, 2 Runs). Boston's contributions came from Jiggs Donahue (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI, 1 Stolen Base) and Dave Brain (2 for 3, Double, 1 Run, 1 RBI). Player of the Game: Jack Chesbro

Game 4: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
Well, it wasn't pretty but at the end of the day the Boston Americans (2-2) did just enough to pick up the 12 to 9 victory over the Washington Senators (2-2). Sam Leever (1-0) was awarded the win despite allowing 9 runs (7 earned) on 14 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings of play; Game Score of 17. Newly acquired reliever Jose Ramos (1 save) kept the game in check over the final 2 innings of play to earn his first save of the season and career. Carl Lundgren (0-1) allowed 11 runs (7 earned) on 12 hits and 2 walks in 4 2/3 innings of play; Game Score of 5. Alex Pearson pitched the next 3 1/3 innings in which he allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits before turning the ball over to Rube Waddell for a final scoreless inning.
With a combined 31 hits, there were several outstanding hitting performances from the players. For the Americans, Bill Lange (2 for 5, Homerun, 1 Run, 5 RBIs), John Farrell (2 for 5, 2 Runs, 3 RBIs), Frank Chance (2 for 4, Double, 1 Run, 2 RBIs, 1 Walk), and Jiggs Donahue (2 for 5, Triple, 2 Runs) led the way. The Senators were led by Cy Seymour (3 for 5, Double, Triple, 2 Runs, 4 RBIs), Doc Casey (4 for 6, Double, 2 Runs, 1 RBI), and Danny Green (3 for 5, 1 Run, 1 RBI) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Cy Seymour

Game 5: Boston Americans vs. Philadelphia Athletics
Still seeing early-season jitters leading to errors (14 team errors in the first 5 games), but a solid outing from Noodles Hahn resulted in the Boston Americans (3-2) topping the Philadelphia Athletics (1-4) by a score of 6 to 4.
Hahn (1-1) allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits to finish with a Game Score of 63. Rookie hurler Mordecai "Three Fingers" Brown was greeted with the loss after serving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits, 1 walk, and 2 wild pitches on 151 pitches; Game Score of 47. The Americans hitting attack was led by Jiggs Donahue (2 for 4, Double, 2 Runs, 1 Walk, 2 Stolen Bases), Bill Lange (2 for 5, Triple, 1 Run, 1 Stolen Base), and John Farrell (2 for 4, 2 RBIs, 1 Stolen Base). Philadelphia's hitting was led by Honus Wagner (2 for 4, Triple, 1, Run, 1 RBI) and Tom McCreery (2 for 4, 1 RBI). Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #1 / Career: #46)

Power Rankings
The first Power Rankings report is out and the Chicago White Sox top the list. The next two teams (Boston Americans and Boston Beaneaters) are no surprise, but seeing the Philadelphia Phillies at the 4th spot is interesting. Things are not shining bright though on the other local team, as the Philadelphia Athletics sit in last place.

Staked to an early 3 run lead, expectation was that Cy Young would keep things in check and lead his team to victory. Rather the Philadelphia Athletics (2-4) came roaring back to take the lead and ultimately the game by a score of 7 to 3 over the Boston Americans (3-3).

First home game of the season and 7,970 fans filled into Huntington Avenue Grounds stadium to root for the home team. Unfortunately for these fans, the Chicago White Sox (4-4) decimated the Boston Americans (3-5) by a 10 to 3 score. Once again, errors (4) played a huge part of the game and the Americans now sit in last place in the American League standings.

Sam Leever (1-1) took the loss after allowing 9 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 2 hit batsmen in 3 2/3 innings of play; Game Score of 26. The Americans had limited success on the day, with production coming from Chick Stahl (1 for 4, Homerun, 1 Run, 1 RBI), Bill Lange (1 for 4, Double), and Frank Chance (1 for 2, 1 RBI, 1 Walk, 1 Stolen Base).
