Red Donahue (3-0) went the distance, throwing 180 pitches in the 14 inning victory. In the game, Donahue allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 14 hits to finish with a Game Score of 74. Cy Young went 8 innings in which he allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits, 2 walks, and 2 hit batsmen but left with a no decision; Game Score of 56. Boston relied on John Farrell (2 for 3, 1 RBI), Fred Clark (1 for 5, Double, 1 Run, 1 RBI), and Cy Young (2 for 2, Homerun, 1 Run, 1 RBI). Player of the Game: Red Donahue

National League Pitcher of the Month
Harry Howell has had an odd career arc so far. The Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher has in one month equaled or surpassed pitching marks than what he had done in the prior two seasons combined. It is difficult to predict how is season will turn out, but for now Howell is riding his good fortunes. In earning the Pitcher of the Month award, Howell went 6-1 with 1.86 ERA and 1.3 WAR.

American League Batter of the Month
Even though he has been floated on the trading block, Washington Senators outfielder Cy Seymour hasn't let it bother him yet. In taking home the American League Batter of the Month Award, Seymour batted .342 (39 for 114) with 6 Doubles, 6 Triples, 2 Homeruns, 21 Runs, 28 RBIs, and 4 Walks to finish with a slash line of .342/.367/.553 that resulted in a 171 OPS+, 1.47 WPA, and 1.8 WAR.

National League Batter of the Month
Like his American League counterpart, Buck Freeman has had to deal with trading block rumors. Like his counterpart, Freeman brushed that aside to take home National League Batter of the Month honors. For the month, the Cincinnati Reds outfielder went 35 for 110 (.318 batting average) with 4 Doubles, 4 Triples, 5 Homeruns, 17 Runs, 22 RBIs, 7 Walks, and 2 Stolen Bases for a slash line of .318/.377/.564 for a 174 OPS+, 0.66 WPA, 180 wRC+, and 1.5 WAR. This was Freeman's first BofM award.

Player Development Report
Boston Americans lead scout Dave Radovanvic reported out to the front office his April 1903 Player Development findings. Overall, it was disappointing to see several starters decrease in core areas including Noodles Hahn and Cy Young. It will be difficult for the team to rebound after the disappointing month if this continues.

MLB Standings -- April 1903
One month is in the books and some interesting things happening in the standings. The Philadelphia Athletics are off to a great start, leading the American League race with an MLB best 19-9 record. The Boston Americans (11-17) have been disappointing, and the Chicago White Sox (6-22) are just plain bad. The National League race has the St. Louis Cardinals (18-10) in the lead, though the Pirates (16-12) and Beaneaters (16-12) are in hot pursuit. The New York Giants (8-20) have a firm hold on last place.

April Schedule Results & Team Snapshot
Not other way to say it, this was a terrible month for the Boston Americans. The finished the month on a 2-11 run, the players are not hitting the ball well, and the starting pitchers have been smacked around.

Pitching - April Stats
Snapshot of April stats for the Boston Americans pitching staff. A few things to note: Noodles Hahn continues to be the anchor of the team, Cy Young is pitching respectably but starting to see hints that age is catching up; not sure what to make of Sam Leever as he is getting roughed-up. The bullpen has been strong so far.

Batting - April Stats
Not very many good-news stories with the Boston Americans hitting attack. A dramatic drop-off with the core players, with Chick Stahl, Dave Brain, and Kid Elberfeld struggling right now.

Game 29: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans
A new month but same result; another loss! In a 12-inning battle, the Philadelphia Athletics (20-9) topped the Boston Americans (11-18) by a score of 5 to 1. The only thing keeping the Americans out of last place in the American League standings is the fact that the Chicago White Sox (6-23) are having a truly horrific season.
Mordecai Brown (6-2) picked up the victory, allowing just 1 earned run on 9 hits and 3 walks on the complete game (159 pitches) effort; Game Score of 81. Noodles Hahn (4-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing 5 earned runs on 8 hits, 4 walks, and 1 wild pitch; Game Score of 65. Hitting production for Philadelphia came from Larry McLean (1 for 3, 1 RBI), John Titus (1 for 6, Homerun, 1 Run, 3 RBIs), and Tommy Corcoran (1 for 2, 1 Walk). Boston's offense came from Jiggs Donahue (2 for 5, 1 Stolen Base) and Homer Smoot (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 Stolen Base). Player of the Game: Mordecai Brown

American League Player of the Week
One of the few bright spots with the Boston American's this season has been the timely hitting of 2nd baseman John Farrell. In picking up the American League Player of the Week award, Farrell batted .579 (11 for 19) with 1 Double, 1 Triple, 3 Runs, 2 RBIs, and 1 Walk to finish with a slash line of .579/.600/.737 which was good for a 291 OPS+ and 0.5 WAR.
