"Black" JOE BERJE FW
Home - Southern California, USA 0-1-0 Joe Berje fought his pro debut on July 8th, 1948 in Stockton, California. Roy Higa won on an eighth round knock out. Tragically, Berje died within a few days from the injuries that he received in the ring. Edit - this may not have been Berje's only fight. He may be the same fighter called "Black Joe" that was 0-7-1 in the early forties and lost to Harold Hoshino. If that is so, he may have fought under many aliases which would explain the eight round bout for his "debut". He also was likely Phillipino.

ADOLPH SAMUELS BW (1937-1947)
Hometown - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA 1(1)-19-3 With the exception of one bout in Hollywood, Samuels fought his whole career in Hawaii. Despite his dismal record, he was by no means an easy out. In 23 pro bouts, he was stopped three times and fought to the final bell 16 times in bouts of eight or more rounds. He did manage to knock out Yasu Yasutake and drew with Harold Hoshino and Star Frisco. Samuels dropped bouts to Hoshino, David Kui Kong Young(3), Yasutake and Cris Crispan(4).

WALTER CHO BW
Born - Ewa, Hawaii, USA Hometown - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA 20(8)-5-6 Cho assembled a nice pro record and was ranked as a Hawain Featherweight at one time, but he faced no major opponents. The highlight of the Korean-american's career was being selected to go a tour with three other Hawain boxers to Tokyo in 1933 followed by a trip to his parents' birthplace in Korea. He won three bouts in Tokyo and drew once; the team did not box while in Korea. After retiring from the ring, Cho stayed active in Hawaii boxing circles. He was picked to be the referee in Hawaii’s first world championship bout (David Kui Kong Young versus Manuel Ortiz, May 30, 1947), plus three other world championship fights. He was also a referee and judge at the US Golden Gloves tournament of champions held in Minnesota 1972. From June 1977 to June 1981 he was a member of the Hawaii State Boxing Commission.

I need to appologize for the Frisco McGale rating.
I can only work on photos at my computer that does not house my main TBCB database. Generaly, when I find pictures, I fix them there and transfer them to the other computer to see if they have been rated yet. Yesterday, I was certain that these fighters were not rated and so I created them from the wrong computer. I was sorry to see that in the case of McGale, someone had rated him although I do not know who as the rating wasn't signed. At any rate, he was in the database as a 7 overall and I gave him a stingy 4. My intention is never to step on anyone's toes like that. If it was your rating that was already in there, please accept my appology. I hope that I did not offend you, had I done the right thing and looked first I would have simply posted McGale's photo to go with your rating. Debating a rating here is fun, but to simply ignore that someone already did the work to create one is another matter and a bit rude in my opinion. I am a little embarrased about my over sight. Christopher
