He looks like he's going to be fun to watch all year.

I really like Jason Benetti in the tv booth. Best offseason pick-up!

Good to see that the meddlesome shortstop is in mid-season form already, batting .056 on March 12

Baez's arrival in NY, which led to two months of 22-38 baseball (enabling the 2021 Mets to set the record for "Most Days in First Place [103] by a team that finished below .500 [77-85]") can be found on page 53 of the Mets thread.
Strangely, there is no post celebrating his departure. He simply became an un-Met when Uncle Stevie's (delusional) expectations went un-met. I wish you Den-izens a similar sigh of relief, one day. (Remember, the Mets won 101 games the next season. And, er, committed the 6th-worst choke in MLB history, but why spoil the narrative?) |

It will be interesting to see how the Baez story line plays out over the course of the season. If Detroit has a chance to make the playoffs, I could see Baez getting outright released or traded while retaining a majority of the salary to free up the roster spot for a middle infielder that could help them. If this year is a repeat of last year, they'll just ride it out again.

Plumbing the depths at .045 now! The Mendoza line is but a distant dream.

Welp...now that he has his one hit, it is mathematically impossible to get to .000
I think one for 2001 will round down to zero. Yep..calculator tested, .000499 ... has to be for a career, as you can't get that many at bats in a year. Even Chris Davis, who had the lowest average for a year, all time (and could still qualify for a batting title) was .168. Chris Davis, for his last FIVE YEARS averaged .196, for over 2100 plate appearances. Jesus. Last edited by dsvitak; 03-13-2024 at 11:30 PM. |

The only way to maintain law and order now is to trade for Aaron Judge!

Yeah, but at least we have the better shortstop.
(It's a meager cause for braggadoccio, but I'm using it while we have it. $34.1mn/yr should get us something, methinks.) |
