I don't care if a team goes 5-12. If you win your division you win your division. However, I do agree that the better record should always get the home game.

Yes. Of course. But lets not forget Harvey Martin got 23 sacks in a 14 game season. It just wasn't an official record back then. But they were still counting them. During the game in week 13 they showed Martin led the league with 23 sacks.

You'd have to go prior to the 1967 season to find only the best teams making the playoffs. Once they introduced divisions, it wasn't only about the best teams. If you win a division, you get a playoff spot.

I don't like losing records in the playoffs myself. But it's not like a total disaster that 8-9 getting in keeps 9-8 out.

Which is why I would be in favor of doing away with divisions. Although, I would imagine I would be in the minority on this one.

Divisions create rivalries. You look @ every team in the league & you will see their fans & players hate the other 3 in their division. Do you know how icky Panther fans felt pulling for the Falcons & the Bucs for the Saints yesterday? Do you know how conflicted the Saints & Falcons were about the prospect of putting one of those into the postseason, but loving the consolation of keeping the other out?

No one should ever touch the divisions. It is one of the things the NFL has on all other sport leagues.

How many playoff teams will be starting QBs that they drafted in the top 5? Looks five out of 14: Carolina, Chicago, Houston, Jacksonville, and New England. Will one of them break the nearly 20 year drought of such teams winning it all?

In non-strike shortened seasons, teams with losing records are 2-2 in their first round games, with 1 of those losses being a near upset of the Bucs in Brady's first season

Not like they tend to get steamrolled

Only if you consider every 16 game season record tainted cause seasons used to be 14 games before that

When was the last, 2006? I knew this at one time, but forgot.

Well I think the players that played in the 14 game structure are underappreciated.

February 2007 when Peyton Manning's Colts won. For perspective, since then the 49ers have been to three Super Bowls with three different QBs (none of them first rounders).

I would hope he decided he'd been there long enough. I would hope they didn't fire him because of silly outcry among fans. He lost his best player for a month. And I don't think he was really healthy the whole year. He had as many as 7 defensive starters out the 1st 4-5 weeks of the season. How is he supposed to prevent Derrick Henry from fumbling late & helping the Bills make that comeback the 1st game? How is he at fault for his kicker missing a make able FG the last game? He wasn't at fault for the injuries and unforced miscues. W/a healthy Lamar & minus the 4th quarter mistakes, the Ravens are probably looking at an 11-12 win season minimum. Those are things out of Harbaugh's control.

Some team now has the chance to scoop up a generationally great coach who should not be on the market. Who will capitalize on this gift?

You know what would be hilarious? If the Steelers lose to Houston, Tomlin gets fired, and then they hire Harbaugh.
