Akil Baddoo will be heading back to Toledo. I had hoped that he could get it back together, love him as a player.

It is however officially Colt Keith time!

Tigers option Matt Manning to Triple-A Toledo

I was expecting Mize or Olson, not Manning.

Quote:
All spring, things seemed to be pointing toward Olson being the odd man out. However, Manning’s work to adjust his mechanics and his pitches hit a few bumps along the way, despite the improved velocity and movement on his stuff. Manning allowed two home runs in his outing against the Mets on Thursday, the fifth and sixth home runs he allowed this spring, and that may have proved the difference for him.

The Mets wish to wholeheartedly apologize for ending a pitcher's career, which is totally not like us Metsies. We promise very sincerely that it will never happen again. Please accept this fruit basket.

Lies! The Mets have ended many pitchers' careers! Oodles!

Granted, it's usually by having them pitch for us. But even so.

10 minutes into the season and I am already growing tired of Craig Monroe.

Did you all know that Skubal's [biggest improvement this year is in the area of "pitchability".

Fun to flick between the ChiSox-cast, where the vanilla new PbP guy is definitely a step down from Benetti, but Steve Stone is still working his dry humor, to the Detroit one, where Jason is as great as ever, but Monroe is…as ever, I guess.

Benetti notes that, despite low averages and OPSs, Martin Maldonado is "still a threat to run into one every now and then", hitting 15 HR last season on a .191 AVG/.606 OPS

Monroe somehow takes it as his cue to enthuse: "Yeah, he won't get cheated! He takes big swings!", instead of suggesting that maybe if Maldonado tried to hit the ball instead of closing his eyes and swinging real hard, he might become a steady contributor.

Sigh.

Benetti was the best off-season pick-up by a mile.

Craig Monroe is Rod Allen in disguise. He is flat out awful Talks nonstop and says nothing. Repeats the same stuff game after game after game. I won't even tune in.

I sure do miss Ernie, George, and Al. I don't miss beating the White Sox on opening day. Only thing that would be better is doing it to the Yanks.

Nice start to the year. Would like some more run support for that amazing pitching though.

I had never seen this video. Apparently the batter smashed into the catcher two innings before, and hurt him.

Dunno if it was on accident or not. Either way, when the pitcher threw at him in the ninth inning, it was ON.

I only watched the 1 inning yesterday, so I didn't hear about this until Gary Cohen mentioned it on the Mets game today. Did Baez really throw the ball at the screen to scare the booing fans at Chicago?

Sheesh. So nice to see how much he's grown since the gave the NY fans the thumbs down, eh?

What a contrast to opening day. Great to see them overcome a terrible Maeda outing and a near implosion from Lange.

Pizza, Pizza!

Don't be a pessimist. I bet we hold them to 5-1.

(I have no idea how, but I have faith!)

Curse you MLB.tv and your blackouts. Sure, I could drive 2.5 hours to see the Tigers at Citi Field but I have this fancy MLB.tv thing. Grrr

Curious, who buys MLB.tv? I would think it's largely out-of-market fans or International fans. In-market fans wouldn't want it. It just doesn't make sense.

I live in northern Indiana, so I'm blacked out for Detroit and Chicago games at least, and I think Milwaukee and Cincinnati. I don't remember. I used to do MLB.tv and then use a VPN to work around the blackout restrictions, but the cost and hassle weren't worth it. Now, my parents live across the border in Michigan and have Bally Sports, so they just let me log in to their account and I can watch to my heart's content.

Fortunately for you, CC, where you live, MLB.tv is a good option most of the time. The Tigers don't head up that way a whole lot.
