The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that right-handed relief pitcher Alberson Ventura will have to be placed on the injured list after he left their 5-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds with a sore shoulder.
Ventura, 30, is expected to miss up to five weeks.
In 29 games this season, Ventura has going 1-2 with a 4.02 ERA.
Ventura has spent parts of four seasons in St. Louis, pitching in 256 games going 11-18 with seven saves and a 3.67 ERA.
Kristian Cardozo, who is at AAA Memphis on an injury rehab, will be recalled.
He has pitched in 24 games for St. Louis this season posting a 1-2 record with a three saves and a 5.56 ERA in 24 games.
