The Rockies declined his option for 2021; it's almost February; and apparently there wasn't much interest in his free agency.

But those first two years in Washington, wow.

Not a bad career:

Murphy finishes his career with a .296 batting average, 1,572 hits, 138 home runs and 735 RBIs.

Mickey Callaway, the former New York Mets manager and current pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels, aggressively pursued at least five women who work in sports media, sending three of them inappropriate photographs and asking one of them to send nude photos in return.

We only have the best people here in Flushing. The greatest and bestest.

Meanwhile I *do* have an axe to grind with the two ladies that wrote the article. He is no longer in the Mets organization and hasn't been for over a year. He wears a red hat now, so add a picture of him in the red hat at the start of the article. Mets get enough bad press as it is.

We are living through times of change. (Although, when is that not true?)

Standards are changing as to what it means to be a man. These days, other men are disgusted by the image of somebody thrusting his crotch in the face of a female reporter who is trying to do her job. I am, and I'm no less of a man.

Can you imagine what was going on before women started speaking up?

One woman may have a grudge. Unless five women have formed an unlikely cabal, it seems Callaway is guilty.

Second black eye for Alderson in two weeks. A well, duh, moment: the team has "already begun a review of our hiring processes to ensure our vetting of new employees is more thorough and comprehensive."

The Angels ought to fire this guy as well. Somebody may follow on here with the usual argument against cancel culture but I feel that this is culture canceling out the crude and barbaric among us. Finally.

Maybe it makes me old-school to think Trevor Bauer and his agent, Rachel Luba, could have handled Friday’s snub of the Mets with a smidge more diplomacy.

The online trolling. The bait-and-switch merchandise on Bauer’s personal website. The hijacking of "LFGM" (the sacrosanct hashtag of Mets fans) as part of the duo’s masterful West Coast scheme — that was just cold-blooded.

Whatever happened to getting everything you dreamed of, expressing gratitude to the other team for their time and effort, then moving on?

The business of wearing the Mets hat now looks like a ploy to pressure the Dodgers.

Then there is this quote: "This season is about making sure history remembers us as we wish to be remembered," Bauer said. "This season is about adding to our legacy. And I can’t wait, Dodger fans." For God's sake, you are a clown in pajamas playing a game.

Now, one cannot blame my disgust with this on sour grapes, because I am not a Mets fan. It does disgust me, nonetheless, particularly that video.

The Mets and their fans should look forward to beating this guy, badly.

The coping process begins. Today's Raccoons update starts like this:

As the end was nearing on an offseason that had not given the team anything nice except for the small fact that a certain starting pitcher had not signed with the Los Angeles Beach Bums...

With that certain starting pitcher being Raffaello Sabre, who was *not* signed by the Los Angeles Pacifics, thus *not* giving the Raccoons a stinking fourth-round pick for compensation.

So the Raccoons have it better than the Mets. That's how far down the pecking order the Mets are now.

I will give him credit for this:

The Dodgers’ new star pitcher, whom the Mets wanted to sign before he decided to go home to Los Angeles on Friday, wrote in a 10-tweet essay that he was sorry for the social-media sideshow that preceded the announcement of his new team.

"I take full responsibility for the mistakes," wrote Bauer, who agreed to a three-year, $102 million contract. "The resulting confusion is understandable and regrettable. My intention was never to mislead your fan base, nor was it to troll you in any way. I had a fantastic time engaging with fans from many teams over the last few months and Mets fans [are] as passionate and energetic a bunch as any, so I offer my sincerest apologies for how the events Friday played out."

But how stupid has this process become? It used to be the player and his agent. Now there is a "team" whose doings the player has little knowledge and control over?

That afternoon, fans discovered that Bauer’s personal website was advertising Mets-themed Bauer gear, as well as a giveaway of a Mets hat signed by him. Those who signed up received an email with a coupon for 10% off his online store and a note that included the line, "I can’t wait to take the mound in New York!" That giveaway eventually was taken down, and Dodgers and Angels hat giveaways popped up instead.

Bauer’s explanation: It was an accident. Definitely not on purpose. His team drew up in advance such materials for "multiple organizations" that he was potentially going to sign with. Someone published the Mets version too early. In the moment Friday, Bauer said, he was unaware of the social-media chaos. He said he woke up Friday not knowing which team he would join and was conferring with his agents while his "marketing and digital team was managing both" his social media and website.

This summer, I might begin a new program of spending my last years following local baseball: independent (bad enough with this type of stuff), college, even high school. To watch the game itself without the distractions of this goddamned nonsense caused by too much money floating around in too few hands.

Well, Jeffyboy had a filthy attitude towards women... I forgot the name of the lady that was an HR person or something for the Mets? And he made repeated allusions towards her... I don't remember the details. This is a good few years back, like 2014 or so?

So the fish stinks from the top. And now Uncle Steve is kicking all the dead old fish out.

He just didn't get any juicy free agents... -.-

Btw, I am convinced that every MLB team harbors a monster and sooner or later they are revealed.
