Man, we almost got a full Cubs-Blue Jays game inside a rain delay in the Mariners-Orioles game. But play resumed in Baltimore during the bottom 8th in Toronto.

This act established that Rocco Baldelli is, in fact, bald.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli flings hat on field after ejection

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli is not pleased with a call from the umpire and is ejected for the fourth time this season.

"That's 107 in MLB" - what a stupid comment. By that logic he'd also be 8 foot tall in MLB.

It would be 360mph in Formula 1!

ESPN is so dramatically dumb.

The point that made that story even more impressive to me was when I read that their mound was only 46 feet from home plate. Now I'm far from 12, but even at my age 82 mph from only 46 feet away doesn't sound like a whole heck of a lot of time to react to the pitch. Just think, sure MLB players have to face 100+mph pitches, but those pitches are from 60 feet or so away. And yeah, the true release point of pitches in MLB is like 55 feet away, but then the release point in little league maybe like, what 44 feet? And while kids may have pretty good reaction times, I don't think they've developed their eye enough yet to pick up what the pitch is likely to do like MLBers have. They're probably going up there just hoping and praying that they make contact.

What's got you so low, low? We need to unpack this.

EDIT: Okay, this probably covers the "sucks" and the first two "screws":

How to watch Brewers vs. Reds for free on Apple TV Plus today

The Major League-leading Milwaukee Brewers visit the Cincinnati Reds on the latest rendition of “Friday Night Baseball” today – Aug. 15 – at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. First pitch is at 6:40 p.m. Eastern. Apple TV Plus is the only place you can watch this MLB game, and you can tune in for free.
Free or not, I wouldn't tune in to Apple TV Plus on principle. But the umpires? I need to do some more digging on that angle.

EDIT 2: I could not find anything about Brewers vs. umpires unless it's something that happened in today's game. (Which is a slugfest; 8-8 in the fifth inning as of this writing). Look, whatever is bothering you, gaze upon this and you should feel better; what a lovely array of W's:

Missed a strike 3 call and shortly after the Reds put up 7 runs or whatever it was in the 2nd. But, it's now bottom of the 7th and I've gotten over it.

For real, I can't stand AppleTV. It's the worst.

So, I heard about Brandon Young's perfect game going into the 8th against Houston. The very second I tuned in he gave up a hit to Urias...

Sorry.

LAD's Will Smith currently leads the NL in BAVG w/.308. He would be only the 5th C to win the NL title, 1st since Buster Posey. It would also be the lowest ever to win the NL title, stopping short of Tony Gwynn's .313 in '88. He and Xavier Edwards are the only 2 in the NL above .300. Which is significant because Smith has been bobbing above and below the 3.1 PA threshold.

I think it is a shame that getting a hit has lost its importance in the game.

If I had a dime for every time in this decade that the Mets had guy(s) on second and/or third with less than two outs, and went home with zero runs, I could retire on the spot.

Nobody can hit a bloody single anymore...!

It's that. But it also isn't entertaining. Do they have a BB:K ratio for hitters stat somewhere? We used to criticize batters who struck out often. And now the math nerds have romanticized the walk so much they don't care if it leads to more k's.

This year, 71 batters have already struck out 100 x's. In 2000, only 57 did so the entire season. In 2000, 16 players got 100 BB. No one has reached that mark yet in 25. And it looks like they are only going to match 2000's total. And among those that did reach 100 walks, only half struck out more than they walked. In 2025, only Kyle Tucker & Geraldo Perdomo look like they will reach 100 walks w/a positive BB:K ratio.

In short, this strategic hitting philosophy isn't for everyone. In basketball, sure having a physical specimen like LeBron James is ideal for success. But not everyone can be 6'10" w/handles of a guard and strength of a center. In baseball, not everyone can try to get it over the wall every at bat. Not everyone can afford to wait until there are 2 strikes before they swing. Only the exceptional can. The rest need to learn to put the ball in play & make contact. Make the D have to do something instead just watching the 1 & 2 play catch.

I had to look the dude up because I don't know him. Frankly, I tune out commercials and especially those for betting outfits. I hate that MLB and broadcasters agree to post odds so frequently before and during games.

I meant to comment on this; I will now:

It's nice to see Paul Goldschmidt getting ovations from the crowd at Busch Stadium this weekend. Usually, it's how and why the player left that affects such demonstrations, and Goldschmidt wasn't traded; he signed with the Yankees. But I looked it up, apparently the Cardinals were not in the mood for making any offers to him after last season. Apparently, the crowd knows this. Savvy. Good for them.
