North American Series to Philadelphia
Wednesday, October 13th, 1943

It was a storybook year for the Philadelphia Blue Jays as they closed out a 4-3 series win over the Philadelphia Athletics to claim the 1943 North American Series. They wrapped it up with a 2-1 victory to cap an incredible season and brought home their 3rd championship.

The Blue Jays manager gave his view of the series, "We had a lot of things going for us, offense and defense doing it at the right time. That's what it takes to win a North American Series."

"We're disappointed we lost, but we're also very proud of what we did all year," said the Athletics manager. "They played better baseball than us and they beat us."

NABL News: Playoffs begin
Monday, October 2nd, 1944

"Baseball is a marathon," or so the saying goes. But once the North American BaseBall League playoffs start today, it's a sprint to the finish. One false move, one errant miscue, one pressure-packed flub will end your team's chances of winning the title. It could be over in a moment. On the other hand, one swing of the bat or a fastball blown by the last hitter could just as easily send your team parading down Main Street, hoisting a 24-carat gold-studded North American Series trophy before an adoring crowd. The contending ballclubs are all poised and ready -- the playoffs begin today with several North American Series showdowns:
St. Louis Cardinals versus Philadelphia Athletics.

Athletics Win North American Series Crown
Tuesday, October 10th, 1944

Today the Philadelphia Athletics won the 1944 North American Series with a 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Shibe Park. They won the series 4-2 and it was 9th time the victors have won the league title.

During the American League regular season Philadelphia posted a 90-64 record and claimed first place.

What's it like to win it all? "Words can't describe it," said the jubilant Athletics skipper. "It really hasn't sunk in. Maybe it will sink in when we go ride around Philadelphia with the trophy. Right now, it's just a lot of fun. This is the one you work for ever since you first picked up a baseball. This is what you dream of and this is what you work toward all year."

In defeat, the Cardinals manager told the press, "There's not that much difference," he said. "I know we got beat 4-2, but bad teams don't make it to the North American Series. They just executed better than we did. We're a good baseball team. The Athletics were just better this time around. We'll be back again."
