He didn't make his debut until he was almost 26 though, so he was a late bloomer and hasn't been up for that long. He was not even supposed to start, and then somebody had an itch and needed a scratch, and there he was, Jake deWho? in the rotation.

I realize I'm old by the fact that there are but few professional athletes left that are older than me. I'll be halfway to 70 this year.

Mets defense is already in mid-season form. Martinez almost tears off a paw running into the umpire, Pillar (Gold Glove? Really?) has one glance off his mitten for extra bases, and now they fumbled a ball in a rancid rundown - all in the same inning!

When he was with Toronto, Pillar was one of those outfielders that I felt was able to make a routine catch look spectacular, to be honest.

Interesting to read how Rojas is holding back his pitchers from hitting this ST in hopes that MLB uses the universal DH again this year.

Not like they are going to get any better. And they can practice their sacrifice bunts in individual drills.
I hope they would just adopt the universal DH. Watching pitchers try and hit is not an entertaining or compelling sport to watch.

That being said, the spring training at-bats are probably better spent on fringe position players. There's no real difference to using the DH in spring training games, which nobody takes seriously anyway. You'd pinch-hit for the pitcher any time his spot his up anyway.
