Marston problem was its lack of power... they could hit well for average up and down the lineup... home runs decided the series... also the Nine lacked depth in its pitching staff.

FINAL FOUR BATTLE IN IPA PRO CUP PLAYOFFS
Four fine ballclubs have survived first-round action in the Islandian Pro Alliance playoffs... Thursday afternoon the Valmara Vipers will vie with the Sligo Rovers for the Ruthlandian Union League Championship and the Southport Sun Sox and Rolling Hills Racers will renew old postseason acquaintances for the Tycobbian Union League Championship... Sligo will host the Vipers at Silver Mountain Park for the first two games of the best-of-seven series and the Racers will entertain the Southport Sun Sox at the Midtown Base Ball Grounds.

With a record-setting 111 wins Rolling Hills is the Pro Cup favorite this season, but Southport carries some weight as the defending IPA titleholder... last year the two powerhouses went seven games before the Sun Sox triumphed in the TU title series... it should be more of the same this year.

The Ruthlandian title series has two quality ballclubs, too... both capable of upsetting the powers-that-be... Valmara upended a strong Claxton club in first-round play... the Diamonds were one of the prime favorites to win it all this year... Sligo has solid pitching and will be tough to deal with in the playoffs... offense and scoring runs is the Rovers' big downfall... the Vipers can score runs with its solid core of hitters... they handled Claxton with some good hitting and some surprisingly good pitching... Sligo's relief corps may decide the outcome... Valmara's bullpen is weak... this series is a toss-up just like the Tycobbian finals.

Rolling Hills has won 5 Pro Cups in its history... Southport 4... Valmara 4... and Sligo has been the overall IPA champion just one time... the Sun Sox last won it last year, the Racers in '60 and '62, the Vipers in '49 and '50 and the Rovers in '21... will 2066 be the year of the juggernaut or the year of the lesser light?

Ruthlandian Union Forecast:
Sligo in 6 games... the Rovers' rotation is better, starters and bullpen... this year Sligo may have found a little more offense, too.

Tycobbian Union Forecast:
Southport in a blockbuster series... this will go 7 games again this year... the Sun Sox have the knack to win in the clutch... they have solid pitching, both starting rotation and bullpen... and they have better offense this year... in spite of being such a talented team, Rolling Hills has a habit of losing vital games... weak bullpen is a big dilemma for the Racers.

Yep... this is going to be a good series... may be even better than last year, when Southport came from a 3-2 deficit to beat Rolling Hills in 7 games.

They even trailed 4-0 in the first inning of game seven and they still won the game 7-5.

The Tycobbian Union title and the Ruthlandian Union titles are up for grabs in the Islandian Pro Alliance Pro Cup playoffs... the Sligo Rovers and the Southport Sun Sox drew first blood... the Rovers edged the Valmara Vipers 2-1 in the Ruthlandian Union, while the Sun Sox stunned Rolling Hills 8-0 in the Tycobbian Union.

SUN SOX BEAT RACERS AGAIN, ROVERS AND VIPERS SPLIT
Defending Pro Cup titlist Southport took a big step toward repeating with its second straight triumph over this year's Pro Cup-favored Rolling Hills... the Sun Sox tripped the Racers up 5-3 in game two of the Tycobbian title series... over in the Ruthlandian Union title series, the two challengers have split the first two games... Valmara evened it up with Sligo with a 4-1 victory.

RACERS FINALLY WIN ONE FROM SUN SOX IN TU, VIPERS UP 2-1 ON ROVERS IN RU
With their backs to the wall and nearing elimination from the Islandin Pro Alliance playoffs, the Rolling Hills Racers rose to the occasion and finally defeated the red-hot Southport Sun Sox in the Tycobbian Union League Championship Series... the Racers excelled at the plate and on the mound in an 8-0 shellacking to narrow Southport's lead to 2-1.

In the Ruthlandian Union, Valmara got some strong pitching, too, and trimmed the Sligo Rovers 5-2 in game three of the Ruthlandian title series... the Vipers are now in the lead 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.

SUN SOX AND VIPERS TAKE COMMAND OF LEAGUE TITLE SERIES
Game four went to the Southport Sun Sox and the Valmara Vipers and gave them commanding leads in their series with Rolling Hills and Sligo... the Sun Sox and Vipers are up three games to one in the best-of-seven series... they are both just one win away from the IPA Pro Cup Finals and they have three games to win that one game... teams just don't come back from 3-1 deficit... it rarely happens... only once in a blue moon.

Southport stopped Rolling Hills 7-2 to take charge of the Tycobbian Union League Championship Series, while Valmara defeated Sligo 4-1 and is in the driver's seat in the Ruthlandian Union title series.
