Player of the Month: Coby Mayo -- The 25-year-old first baseman hit .300 with four home runs with 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored in 24 games. He got on base at a .423 clip and slugged .537.
Starting Pitcher of the Month: Jason Savacool -- The 24-year-old right-hander went 1-0 in five starts with a 2.59 ERA. He pitched 31.1 innings, during which he struck out 22 and had a 0.99 WHIP.
Relief Pitcher of the Month: Ian Hamilton -- The 31-year-old right-hander got into 11 games going 1-0 with a 0.71 ERA. He worked 12.2 innings, during which he struck out eight and had a 0.87 WHIP.

With a 9-8 win over the Cincinnati Reds, the Chicago Cubs have wrapped up a berth in the upcoming National League playoffs.
At 88-71, the Cubs lead the second-place St. Louis Cardinals by two games with three contests left in the regular season.
Chicago sits two games behind the NL-East leading New York Mets for the best overall record in the NL
This will be the second straight playoff appearance for the Cubs.
Chicago last reached the World Series in 2015, when it defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games.

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Texas Rangers 7-4 to assure themselves a spot in the National League playoffs.
The D-backs sit one game behind the San Diego Padres in the National League West Division standings with three games left in the season.
Arizona trails the NL-East leading New York Mets by two games for the best overall record in the NL.
The postseason berth is the third in the last four years for the D'backs.
They last reached the World Series in 2023, when they lost to the Rangers.
Their lone World Series title came in 2001, when they downed the New York Yankees in seven games.

Cards news: Oct. 2 -- Abdoiminal strain will sideline Saggese, Baro called up

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed infielder Thomas Saggese on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a mild-abdominal strain during their 4-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Oct. 2.
The team has called up top-position prospect Boston Baro from AAA Memphis.
Sagesse, 24, has played 72 games/70 starts for the Cardinals this season.
In those games, he has hit .273 with eight home runs, 34 RBIs and 36 runs scored.
This will be the second trip to the majors for the 22-year-old Baro.
In his first callup, he struggled hitting just .158 with four runs scored in five games.
At AAA this season, Baro has hit .327 with 18 home runs, 75 RBIs and 93 runs scored in 134 games/131 starts.

The Boston Red Sox assured themselves a wild-card berth in the American League playoffs with a 1-0 victory over the New York Yankees.
With an 82-78 record, the Red Sox sit in third place in the American League East Division, 10 games behind the first-place Baltimore Orioles.
Right now, Boston is in second place in the wild-card standings a game ahead of Detroit.
The Red Sox last reached the World Series in 2018, when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With a 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros, the Cleveland Indians have clinched a spot in the upcoming American League playoffs.
Where the Indians will fit into the postseason remains in question, as with an 82-79 record they are tied with the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League Central Division with just one day remaining in the regular season.
It will be the second postseason trip in a row for the Tribe, who a year ago lost to the Atlanta Braves in the World Series.

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Miami Marlins 3-2 to clinch a playoff berth, but they have yet to learn how they will fit into the American League postseason field.
With an 82-79 record, the Tigers and the Cleveland Indians are tied for the top spot in the American League Central Division with just one game left in the regular season.
The playoff berth is the Tigers first since 2024. They last reached the World Series in 2012, when the San Francisco Giants defeated them.
