Normally I just rate refs as I need them to do fights in my historical title universes (currently on late 1930's bantamweight title). When this thread was revived I thought it would be fun (and educational) to rate all the refs in referee picture thread. Obviously those would be the ratings of most interest. Now that I've finished there are nearly 800 refs in my db.

I've chosen to attach them as a zipped folder of xml files since the forum apparently doesn't allow uploading of dat files anymore.

Great! Thank you for sharing! Will take time to look through your screen shots to see who I don't have. I've started this as I been looking through newpapers actually to research fighters in the 1940s and decided as I'd run across referee names, I started looking at them. Something in the past I'd never really paid much attention to in the game.

Posting this for Callahan's referee career. If you go over to my HW thread, I'm going to post an update to his fighter file with some new Bio info and photos.

I've posted two new referee photos here of Callahan but there's like 3 or 4 in the Referee Photos thread that others posted some time back.

02/19/54 - The Berkshire Eagle, Pittsfield, MA - Mushy Callahan, referee and Judge Joe Stone were suspended for scoring a decision win for Art Aragon over southpaw Chuck Davey which 10,500 fans in attendence roared their disapproval and disbelief in the decision. The other judge in fight, Charley Randolph, scored the decision for Davey. Soon after the fight, officials of the California Athletic Commission hurried into a quick conference and then announced that Callahan and Stone were being suspended for "This is the worst decision I have seen in my many years of attending fights", Commissioner, Everett Sanders ruled.

06/24/86 - Los Angeles Times, CA - Announced Callahan had died after a long illness the previous week. Placed his age at 81. Mentions he was born Vincent Morris Scheer in New York, but his family brought him out to Los Angeles as a youngster. He began boxing when he was 14 and chose his alias to keep his family from learning about his boxing. Callahan worked for Warner Bros. Studio as a trainer, teacher and adviser on boxing movies, occasionally playing bit parts.

10/11/80 - Petaluma Argus-Courier, CA - Article run in this paper actually had to do about the actor Steve McQueen who had died recently.The writer of the article happens to mention in it he had an old friend, Mushy Callahan, who knew a lot about a number of movie actors including McQueen. Mushy had trained actors for a variety of parts, including such stars as Clark Gable, Jimmy Cagney, Paul Newman, Errol Flynn and Steve McQueen. Mushy trained McQueen for his movie "The Sand Pebbles".
