I keep messing around with this stupid thing but I still think it throws in to much stupid stuff on a regular basis, hbp, balks, pitchers hitting rbi extra base hits. It's not winning and losing it's trying to get through a game without a bunch of excess errors and other junk that doesn't belong in every single game.

I would hate for

a pitcher to get a hit to start a rally
a team to belt 6 HR in a game
a manager call on his pitcher to execute a squeeze play and follow that up with another squeeze play,
a wild card team with 98 wins
a tubby pitcher get run out of two cities due to gross incompetence, finds a slider and becomes Trevor Christ: Superstar for a team who last won a championship during the fading days of the Roosevelt Administration.

That's the first Roosevelt...the one carved into Mount Rushmore.

My lg file is so borked.

i made a LTM thread that has some "target" averages calculated from RL statistical output ignoring steroid era and scaled to my leagues # of teams and games played. you can see the values in one of the attached images - notice that you need to divide by ~.8988 for a 30team 162game figure. (4368/4860 ~.8988) i'm not suggesting that you use the thread to make LTMs... keep it simple and just get a rough estimate of # of occurences for various stats. even though they have some subjectivity involved, it will get you in the ballpark.

the point is to have a baseline expectation that isn't purely a guess or based on watching the game for X amount of years. no matter how smart you are, at least one perception is likely worng. make your own mind up about what the targets should be by using baseball reference info. the tables are easy to export as csv and import to any spreadsheet program. Do not focus on one game. look at league-wide stat totals at the end of the year. even then, don't overreact if they are +/- 10%, give or take. (just a made up %, so just be open-minded and know you need 100+years of data to know the actual average with confidence.)

if it's a historical game, errors will be more common than modern day.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I would suggest trying some different settings for Player Development, Trades, etc. There are many people here who will help you if you've got questions and you can find invaluable advice on the "Dynasty Reports" forum.
