Royals SHOULD take a chance. The reward could be huge and the cost is zero.
He does sound like a huge a hole though. Edit: I just looked to see his numbers since the “you’re not taking me out of this game” moment in the 2015 WS. Wow. It’s a Greek tragedy. Stunning.

Also, you’re a game and a half out in a really poor division, where the leader is playing way out over their skis and just put Jose Bautista in as their everyday third baseman. So it’s not over, brother. A 7-3 stretch and you’re in first.

He was with the Mets. The Mets are one, consistent Greek tragedy.
Also, regarding the NL East, well, the Gnats are gaining steam, so there's that, but thankfully the Mets' pulse will be measured this week with a set against the rotten Reds, who canned their manager in April and are without a doubt forsaken. If the Mets can't climb over those chaps......... Further, why do the Mets feed two shortstops, neither of whom can field at any level, nor hit at any level? I can't tell if they can still run, because Rosario never gets on base (*never*), but I know that Reyes will not vigorously pursue foul balls, and there's got to be physical limitations for that, right? Right? We may want to kindly ask the Orioles for Ruben Tejada at some point, hitting .299 for AAA Norfolk, and yes, I already checked that out this morning, from the office, where I can be buried by a toppling pile of undercooked files at any second. Priorities!! If Sandy Alderson can't do his ****ing job (and who foolishly gave us reunification with Jay Blues, who I will henceforth call this way because he gives me the same, despite two absolutely crummy half-seasons as a Met already), I gotta do it! At least the decaying carcass at first base is paid for by the Barves... Re Rosario, who should really stink it up in Vegas instead, they showed an interesting graphic last night that I did not screencap, foolishly, but which stated that he was *way* under the MLB average in swinging at pitches in the middle of the zone, and way over the MLB average for swinging at pitches out of the zone. So, yeah, great - our shortstop of the future is basically blind at the plate. Maybe even legally blind. Who knows!? His swings by location look terrifically like mine in the recently acquired Super Mega Baseball 2, which I do suck at. Does that mean I can be a major leaguer? FYI, I am about 6'0'' and 250lbs. Good for shortstop, right? Right? Why is being a Mets fan so hard ...? ![]()

The drama of April.
The Nationals are going to win that division by at least 10 games. Of all the teams we were told on Day One would win their divisions, only the Dodgers are in trouble, and I'm not positive about them.

Well, you guys know now that they traded Harvey to the Reds:
https://www.newsday.com/amp/sports/b...eds-1.18454304 They get Devin Mesoraco, a former 1st round draft choice who does not seem to have lived up to potential despite having one really standout year. Don't know what happened to him after that. Injuries? On second look, maybe he was just the backup catcher behind Tucker Barnhart who is better at the plate and maybe behind it as well. Anyway, this may be a big consideration in favor of the Mets, maybe the "cash" portion of the deal: Quote:

Given that the Mets don't pay a penny with this deal and they get a living catcher in return, I do approve.
The Mets' catching situation is bad enough that the best strategy is indeed to throw new **** at the wall until something, anything sticks. Maybe it's Mesoraco. Maybe not. Probably not. He was an All Star once. There's gotta be something of that left in him, right? Maybe bat .245 and throw out a runner once in a while.

Just when you thought the Mets couldn't sink any lower, they are batting out of order in the first inning against the Reds.
Killlll meeeeee......

Wow. I thought Marty Brennaman said 10 years to the day and I thought he said May 11. Apparently I don't know what day it is anyway.
Edit: Okay, it was May 11. Maybe he said almost 10 years to the day. http://retrosheet.org/outturn.htm Last edited by Andy; 05-09-2018 at 03:39 PM. |

Okay. So, perhaps the hot start isn't going to help. Batting out of order..... I think you're safe in that I don't think there can be a lower low than that, Westheim. I mean, 8 year olds can avoid that with moderate supervision.
Yikes.

Callaway looks bad in this. Apparently there were two versions of the lineup; his handwritten one that he presented to the ump and another one in a computer from which came the printout that was posted on the dugout wall. Wow.
By the way, the other thing that I read about your new catcher is that it was injuries that cut him down in 2015 and 2016. Two hip operations and surgery on a shoulder. He says that just now he is feeling healthy again. We'll see. Maybe it will be good news after all.

First, I blame the Yankees for the recent misfortunes of the Mets. There is only X amount of wins that the baseball gods make available for New York teams per month, and the Damn Yankees gobble up just about all of them right now!
Also. After five years of "Tragic" Travis d'Arnaud being sold as the big thing that he never was and never will be, and without fail landing on the DL by May - I mean it's a real tragedy for him, too, with his dream and all, and his body telling him to finally take those accounting classes because it won't let baseball happen, ever - and his complete inability to throw out any runner (Mets being routinely at the bottom in CS%), any new catcher no matter how terrible looks like an improvement. I am thoroughly sick of d'Arnaud, to be honest. Did Mesoraco look any good yesterday? Nope. But the bar to tumble over is really at ankle height, it's infinitely hard to make it past beneath. Raccoons managed to sneak their "Tragic" Travis onto the Falcons' roster via waivers, maybe the Mets want to look into that, too. ![]() Also, while I watched the game yesterday I was casually chatting with a former colleague who doesn't know much about baseball and when I mentioned it couldn't imagine how a team with at least three working brain cells (combined between all members) could bat out of order. The simplest explanation I could come up with was some idiot not being able to copy nine names in order. That's the 2018 Mets. Not being able to copy nine names in order. Also funny how I sometimes saw Callaway's managerial genius lauded when they were 11-2, and now he's basically in Gabe Kapler's Land of the Damned. I liked Terry Collins, Leader of Men. But am I ever asked what I want? Nope. Mellow. ![]()

I agree re: Travis, I think I could steal a base off of him. The chances of us essentially turning Matt Harvey into a good catcher ? not too high.
