I think maybe I should change the player's pics to black and white. Is it worth the effort to get the period feel in the articles? The color pics seem kind of jolting to me in the same article as the logo of area newspapers.

Up to you bud, colour photos in newspapers are probably a later thing, especially for local rags.

Nice going so far, let's hope the relievers give you the solidity you need. Those pesky Dodgers are in the mix again, I see.

Color in newspapers was an occasional exception until USA Today started in 1982.

Bullpen ERA is last in the NL. I couple 3.5 star guys bumping out a couple 2.5 star guys should help.

It is tough giving up a SP. Not mentioned in the article is he was in the last year of his contract. Still, getting a young RP for a several year older starter and a couple of minor league maybes, that bothers me. Situationally OK, but still just the idea gets me.

Yeah, the short- vs long-term trade-off is a toughie, especially as relievers are, by and large, easier to procure than decent starters. Like you said, you're close enough so you have to make every post a winner.

Last couple years there haven't been many 3.5 star RPs in FA. I have been looking at FAs since my RPs are getting older and weaker and the farm isn't producing them.

My Bucs save is the first historical MLB save in which I am Managing / GMing (I just commish in the FL and PBL), so I am very interested to see the evolution of the game as seen through OOTP's eyes in regards to aspects such as what you mention.

So far (IE 1901-02), because of the pitching structure and pitchers' stamina, there is a huge excess of pitchers - I have an ACTIVE of 22 of which I am only using 21: 13 pos / 8 pitchers) and 7 on my RESERVE, all of whom are pitchers.

Intrigued to see how this changes over the next two decades and beyond.

The shortage of decent RPs I'm experiencing is I think just part of the cycle. CFs, it seems like regardless of year its hard to get an outstanding one. I started Carlos Bernier for two years in the 50s on the basis of him being able to field and draw walks.
