May 1911: Pete Alexander Pick #2
Pete Alexander is trying to make the Washington Monuments a winner, he is 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA in the young 1911 season. But what was interesting was in the 1910 Draft is he was picked #2. Manhattan had a chance to get him but went with the "Swede", Olaf Henricksen at the #1 pick. The outfielder had just 487 ABs in his MLB career.

June 1911: Parity in the Wheaton League
Heading into June, we have six of the eight teams within 2 games of first place. Anybody's guess.

July 1910: Tough Career for Addie
How much does the team you are on matter for a Hall of Fame career? Addie Joss, who died in real life in 1911, is still going in the AHBL but playing in his early years with a poor Worcester team and lately with a poor Philadelphia team has not helped his career. He is just 156-144 so far.

July 1906: Christy Struggling
Christy Matthewson was the Cartright League Ace Award winner in 1904, 1905 and 1906 but he has fallen on tough times. Now 30 and still pitching for the Boston bayonets, Christy is 7-15 with a 3.05 ERA this year. He fell off much earlier than in his MLB career, going just 15-19 with a 2.73 ERA in '09 and 14-20 with a 3.21 ERA last year. Overall he is just 193-179.

Matching 162 Games to Schedule?
After a long break due to work pressures, I have started this simulation back up. We are in 1911. However, I quickly ran into a problem. For 1911, I wanted to expand to 162 games just to make things more interesting. However, the game seems to now be on a 140 game schedule in some places and 162 in others. I suspect I have the wrong schedule in there because I see 1903. Can anyone help me in what I would do for 1912 to have the game match a 162 game schedule?
Thanks so much! Matt |

Actually I think I figured it out but if anyone could confirm, I'd appreciate it.
I imported ILN_BGY_G162_T8_C_a1 for one league and ILN_BGY_G162_T8_C_a2 for the other. Just hope it works when I run 1912... |

Yeah, it'll keep presenting that original setting forever I believe. So every preseason, you'll need to reset it to 162 games and regenerate / reattach the schedule. If you have auto-rollover on, that might change when the historical becomes 162, but I'm not 100% sure.

Reading the schedule description, how can a seven team league with 162 games have a balanced schedule?

October 1911: Worcester Wins it All
Proving that tiny market teams can win the AHBL, the Worcester Hearts cruised to their first championship in 1911 behind Mortecai Brown, Tris Speaker and Eddie Collins. After finishing 2nd three out of the previous four years, they have finally won it all.

May 1912: Honus Joins the Champs
In Win Now mode, the Worcester Hearts are hoping to repeat by picking up 6-time MVP Honus Wagner in a trade with Brooklyn. The Eagles did not win with Wagner on the team but now for $5,000 a year he joins a proven winner. Wagner collected his 2500th hit in 1911, a sure-fire HOF career.

June 1912: Shoeless Joe
It will be very interesting to see what Shoeless Joe Jackson's full career looks like. The Washington Monuments Centerfielder had a 25 game hit streak extended into June 1912. He is second in the league in batting, behind teammate Fred Clarke, and he has the Monuments in a first place tie with Cambridge.

July 1912: Bubbles Goes First
It has been a tough league so far for the Pittsburgh Smokies who have had one winning season and hold a fan interest score of 28. With the first overall pick in the 1912 draft the Smokies take Bubbles Hargrave who did not his few good seasons in the MLB until he hit 30. It could be awhile until Pittsburgh starts winning.

August 1912: Wahoo Sam
Hall of Famer Sam Crawford has been on some winning teams in both Worcester and Cambridge but he only has one All-Star appearance at age 32. Now in 1912 he is finally have a big season. Crawford is hitting .348 with 9 homers and 71 RBI heading into August.. Hitting behind Ty Cobb in the batting order, they have Cambridge looking for yet another title in the Cartwright League.

August 1912: Ralph Who?
One of the stranger results of the AHBL has been the glorious career of Ralph Caldwell. The ace of the first place Chicago Firemen is a 4-time all-star having made the squad three times with the Boston Bayonets. He led the league in 1909 with a 1.97 ERA and had a 1.74 mark the year before. He may well win the Ace Award in 1912, at 18-11 and 1.80. His career in the majors lasted 2 years and 75 innings.

September 1912: Chicago and Cambridge
Two good races this year came down to the wire. The Chicago Firemen in only their second winning season won the Wheaton League, edging out recent champions, St. Louis and New Orleans.
But the better race was in the Cartwright League where it came down to the final day of the season with Cambridge holding a 1 game lead over charging Worcester. Dick Rudolph won it for the Schooners, sending them back to the Series for the 5th time. They are still looking for their first championship. ![]() |

May 1913: Will Pittsburgh Get the Babe?
The Pittsburgh Smokies have been pretty much dreadful over the past 10 years but they may have gotten lucky by finishing last in 1912. I am assuming Babe Ruth gets drafted in 1913 and if so Pittsburgh will have first dibs.

June 1913: Snodgrass Slows Down
Fred Snodgrass came into the AHBL at full tilt, winning the Rookie of the Year Award in 1908 and the MVP in 1909 and leading his St. Louis Explorers to championships in both years. Since then he has slowed down and so has St. Louis. His OPS was 651 last year and 652 this year. The Explorers have a lot of pitching but they need Snodgrass and others to hit, they are currently 15th in batting average.

July 1913: The Babe headed to Chicago
In a surprising draft, the Bambino goes 6th, just behind Braggo Roth. The Southside Strikers get Ruth, assuming he signs. The first pick, Harry Heilmann to Pittsburgh makes some sense but a couple others are puzzlers including Philadelphia taking Roth 5th and Joe Harris going to Manhattan in the #2 slot.
