2024 World Series Game 2

Game Summary

Sean Hjelle also showed unusual control issues, as the Dodgers scored the first run of the game on a bases-loaded walk in the 2nd by Cody Bellinger, then another on a hit-by-pitch to Freddie Freeman. Trea Turner broke it wide open with a grand slam to make it 6-0 Dodgers in the 2nd, putting the Guardians in a difficult position to try and win the game and the series. Michael A. Taylor, back in the lineup, led off the 2nd with a solo HR, and the Guardians rallied to score 3 more on a RBI double by Jose Ramirez and a 2-run single by Vinnie Pasquantino. Tanner Burns came in to keep it close, but gave up a 2-run HR to Cody Bellinger. The inning nearly got out of hand as Trea Turner reached on a throwing error after a double by Freddie Freeman, but Turner was caught stealing to end the inning and crucially keep the game within reach for the Guardians. The Guardians continued their fight by putting the first two runners on to start the 4th and loading the bases with one out for George Valera. Valera drove one in with a sac fly before Jose Ramirez got Cleveland rocking at home from their bars and living rooms with a game-tying 3-run HR. The Dodgers, furious as ever, loaded the bases with nobody out for Alex Bregman in the bottom of the 4th. Bregman grounded into a double play, but Joey Gallo bailed him out with a RBI double to make it 10-8 Dodgers. The Guardians escaped trouble again in the 7th, but they needed a rally once again. Carlos Correa started the 8th with a single against Ryan Pressly, and J.C. Correa followed with a single of his own, sending Carlos Correa to 3rd. Luis Campusano then struck out, setting the stage for Angel Martinez pinch-hitting for Michael A. Taylor with the Guardians' World Series hopes in the balance. He grounded out to advance J.C. Correa to 2nd, and it was up to ALDS and ALCS MVP Andres Gimenez to be the savior. Gimenez grounded out to end the inning, however. Ryan Pressly came back out to try and complete the 6-out save, but ran into trouble with 2 outs as Jose Ramirez walked and Vinnie Pasquantino doubled, bringing Carlos Correa to the plate representing the go-ahead run. Correa grounded out to end the game, however, finishing a crushing loss for the Guardians as they fall behind 2-0 in the World Series.

2024 World Series Game 3

Game Summary

The Guardians, hoping to regain their footing at home, got off to a strong start with Andres Gimenez leading off the game with a triple and Kyle Tucker singling him home. George Valera also reached, but the Guardians could not add on from there. Joey Gallo awoke from his slumber and made the Guardians pay with a 2-run blast to put the Dodgers in front 2-1, but the Guardians came right back as Carlos Correa doubled and was driven in by Michael A. Taylor. Kyle Tucker kept the pressure up by leading off the 3rd with a double, but was stranded by three consecutive strikeouts. The Dodgers once again capitalized as Mookie Betts started the 4th with a HR, but the Guardians again punched back as Andres Gimenez tied it at 3 on a RBI infield single, Kyle Tucker worked a bases-loaded walk for the lead, and George Valera took a hit-by-pitch right after to make it 5-3 Guardians in the 4th. This forced the Dodgers to their bullpen, and Alex Vesia prevented any further runs from scoring. The Dodgers, as usual, came right back with a double by Will Smith and a RBI single by Freddie Freeman. Trea Turner also reached, allowing Gavin Lux to tie the game once again on a RBI single of his own. Jakob Hernandez then entered to try and escape the jam, and did so with the help of a diving catch by Jose Ramirez. The Guardians failed to get anything going in the bottom of the 5th, and the Dodgers kept rolling by loading the bases with 1 out in the 6th. Marlon Perez entered to get the lefties out but failed as he gave up a go-ahead 2-run single to Pavin Smith, and Gavin Lux followed with a RBI single of his own two batters later. James Karinchak entered to try and stop the bleeding, but the Dodgers might as well have been stealing signs as Mookie Betts ripped a 2-out, 2-run double into the corner to make it 10-5 Dodgers in a disaster inning. Michael A. Taylor led off the bottom of the 6th with a HR to try and spark another rally, and Carlos Correa homered an inning later to make it 10-7, but that wasn't enough as Raisel Iglesias collected a 6-out save to bring the Dodgers one win away from repeating as World Series champions. The Dodgers are making the Guardians look like what the Guardians made the Rangers look like.

2024 World Series Game 4

Game Summary

The Dodgers sent a message in the 1st with a 2-run HR by Shohei Ohtani, a rude welcome for Cody Morris' return from the IL and playoff debut. Alex Bregman went back-to-back to make it 3-0, and two batters later, Will Smith hit a 2-run HR to make it 5-0, and another two batters later, Trea Turner hit a 2-run HR to make it 7-0...all with 2 outs. George Valera came back with a 2-run HR of his own, but it was looking bleak for the Guardians at this point as Shohei Ohtani came right back with a RBI triple to make it 8-2. Alex Bregman drove him in with a groundout, making it 9-2 Dodgers. The Guardians got another back with a RBI single by Michael A. Taylor, and two innings later, Luis Campusano drove in another run with a single. The Guardians played smallball to plate two more and make it 9-6, a valiant effort at this point in the series. Kyle Tucker came up as the tying run, but flew out to end the threat. The Guardians didn't threaten again until the 7th, when Michael A. Taylor faced down Brusdar Graterol representing the tying run with 2 outs, but he was easily disposed of by the hard-throwing righty. Raisel Iglesias clocked back in to record his second-straight 6-out save, and he got through the 8th before the Guardians brought the tying run to the plate with 1 out in the 9th. The Guardians once again failed to score, however, and the Dodgers completed the sweep in one of the most dominant offensive series' you will ever see to repeat as World Series champions. They made the Guardians' pitching staff look like a group of little-leaguers.

2024 Offseason Preview

Playoff Roundup

As said, the Dodgers repeated as World Champions with a 4-0 sweep of the Guardians. It was one of the most impressive offensive performances by a team I have ever seen with the combination of clutch hitting and overall prowess. The Guardians will reevaluate what they have this offseason.

A small bright spot is that CF Michael A. Taylor won World Series MVP despite the loss, as he batted .600 with 2 HR, 4 R, and 4 RBI.

State of the Team

News Dump

In a shocking rule change made by Commissioner Rob Manfred, the AL will no longer be using the Designated Hitter. This will cause a big shift to our offseason strategy.

SP Shane Bieber won the AL Cy Young Award and Manager Aaron Sele won AL Manager of the Year. Additionally, Austin Hedges, Andres Gimenez, and Carlos Correa all won Gold Glove Awards, while Andres Gimenez also won Silver Slugger for his position.

We exercised CF Michael A. Taylor's 2025 team option for $7.6M.

We came to an agreement with C Austin Hedges on an extension that will pay him $1.3M in 2025, but has a team option for 2026 valued at $5.5M. This will likely be the only contract the Guardians hand out to a MLB player this offseason.

Arbitration hearings saw four players get non-tendered: SP Kris Bubic, 1B Josh Naylor, 2B Bryson Stott, and LF Oscar Mercado. All other arbitration-eligible players were tendered contracts.

Offseason Goals

Despite the World Series run, GM U7Gohan is dissatisfied with the state of the team's pitching staff, and with the team's core a year older and a year closer to free-agency, he is willing to make franchise-altering moves to set the team up for success both in the near-term and in the long-term. With that said, he was impressed by the team's offensive performance in the playoffs and it appears finding a bat will not be on the team's top priority list this offseason.

Will check it out, thanks! I had probably the biggest offseason I've ever had in an OOTP save which I will be posting about today so check it out! If you have any more feedback as to what I can include in my posts, that would be welcome too!

December 2024 Roundup

State of the Team

GM U7Gohan entered this offseason with big plans, but as usual, they took a turn and he ended up having the most active offseason of his long OOTP career, by far. He did not do what he initially set out to do, but he transformed the roster all the same into what he expects to be a juggernaut, all while working with the new rule of the Designated Hitter being removed from the AL by Commissioner Rob Manfred...

News Dump

GM U7Gohan was busy at the Winter Meetings, making six trades that all greatly impacted what the 2025 roster will look like. Without further ado...

Trade 1: San Diego Padres

Outbound: RF Oscar Gonzalez (2.5, 2.5)

Inbound: RP Steven Wilson (4.0, 4.0), RF AJ Shaver (0.5, 1.5), SP Colin Czajkowski (1.0, 1.5)

The Padres made this offer early in the offseason, and with Gonzalez not in the team's plans, we decided to pounce to bolster our bullpen with a low-cost reliever just entering arbitration. Shaver and Czajkowski are lottery tickets the Padres offered to sweeten the deal.

Trade 2: San Francisco Giants

Outbound: RF Kyle Tucker (3.5, 3.5), SP Damon Casetta-Stubbs (2.0, 2.5), RP Jake Miller (2.0, 2.0), RP James Karinchak (4.0, 4.0), SP Trenton Denholm (2.5, 2.5)

Inbound: C Patrick Bailey (4.5, 4.5), LF Luis Matos (3.0, 3.5)

We realized that the Giants were very high on Kyle Tucker and were also willing to trade Patrick Bailey, who was running away with the NL Hitter WAR lead until he got injured at the start of September, so with Luis Campusano falling out of favor, we saw a chance to upgrade bigtime at the catcher position for the next four seasons. Each piece of this trade ended up being necessary without substitutions, as they were insistent on Karinchak and it took Denholm, a recent Top 100 Prospect, to complete the deal. Matos came back to replace Tucker and is under team control for the next six seasons. This was a deal both for the present and for the future.

Trade 3: Minnesota Twins

Outbound: SS Angel Martinez (2.5, 3.5, #55 Overall), SP Gavin Williams (2.5, 3.0), RP Allan Hernandez (1.5, 2.5), CF Michael A. Taylor (2.5, 2.5)

Inbound: CF Byron Buxton (3.5, 3.5) (15% Retained), CL Jovani Moran (5.0, 5.0)

This trade ended up being an unexpected one. The Twins indicated their interest to deal Moran early, but in the process of trying to move either Andres Gimenez or Angel Martinez for a starting pitcher, I realized Byron Buxton was available and also on a team-friendly contract despite his injury history. I pounced at the opportunity and moved Taylor back to offset some of the money for 2025, leaving me on the hook for just $12.75M per year over the next four years for Buxton, an incredible talent. This does all but seal away my chances of signing Andres Gimenez to a long-term extension, for now at least, but I saw it worthwhile to deepen the lineup further.

Trade 4: New York Mets

Outbound: C Luis Campusano (3.0, 3.5)

Inbound: SP Sonny Gray (3.0, 3.0) (55% Retained)

With Patrick Bailey in the fray, it was time to trade Luis Campusano. My ultimate goal this offseason was to trade Andres Gimenez for an ace, but between his rising arbitration costs and now being two years away from free-agency, his value plummeted and so Angel Martinez ended up being my best trade piece. I still got a starting pitcher, however, as Gray could fall off at his 35 year-old age but has five pitches and a well-rounded profile that showed itself in 2024. I am also only on the hook for just under $12M/2yr.

Trade 5: Cincinnati Reds

Outbound: RP A.J. Puk (3.0, 3.0), SP Cody Morris (2.5, 3.0), RP Denny Bentley (3.0, 3.0)

Inbound: SP Nick Lodolo (3.5, 3.5)

Despite acquiring Sonny Gray, I didn't want to give up on the hopes of acquiring a top-flight starting pitcher. Lodolo may not be an ace, but he would slot in as potentially the second-best arm in the rotation, and I got him without needing to give up anyone who wasn't replaceable. I had hoped to keep Morris for his promising limited showing, but ultimately he would not have a place in the rotation with this deal completed. I also had high hopes for Puk as a reliever, but his value was too high for me not to capitalize on.

Trade 6: Philadelphia Phillies

Outbound: 1B Vinnie Pasquantino (3.0, 3.0), SP Trevor Stephan (2.0, 2.0), RP Tanner Bibee (1.0, 1.5)

Inbound: RP David Bednar (3.5, 3.5) (70% Retained), RP Cristian Hernandez (2.5, 2.5)

This trade was painful to make, but I could not roster both Pasquantino and J.C. Correa without the DH and neither Pasquantino nor Correa had that much value. So, I had to cut my losses and trade Pasquantino for a reliever, as despite my hopes of trying to make him a big piece in the Nick Lodolo trade, the Reds were not interested in him. I was happy to at least get Hernandez as a sweetener given the strikeout rates he has posted in the minors, but this was a difficult deal to make. My hope is that Pasquantino reverts back to his 2022-2023 form so I feel less bad about it.

In the Rule 5 Draft, we protected RP Cristian Hernandez (2.5, 2.5), RP Nathan Ocker (2.0, 2.5), and CF Isaiah Greene (2.0, 2.5). We then drafted RP Justin Hagenman (3.0, 3.0), 2B Euribiel Angeles (2.0, 2.5), and CF Jordyn Adams (2.0, 2.5).

The 40-Man roster stands at 37.

Minor League Report

Now that's some trading!

I have automatic evolution on in my saves but one thing I won't let the game change is eliminating the DH (primarily because it's never going to happen). But that's what's great about OOTP, you can go any way you want.

I have automatic evolution on in my saves but one thing I won't let the game change is eliminating the DH (primarily because it's never going to happen). But that's what's great about OOTP, you can go any way you want.
Automatic evolution usually ends up being fun for me, so while I was pretty distraught to see the DH removed, I wanted to be consistent and take the good with the bad to keep things interesting. Thanks for reading along!

Very busy offseason indeed! Will set up for a very exciting attempt at returning to the series

In terms of feedback, usually what works best for you works for us. Personally I've really liked the way you've structured things so I wouldn't change too much

Only thing I can think of would be the occasional posting of the league standings. Can be cool to see how other teams are doing too

Anyways, good luck on the coming season!

2025 Opening Day Preview

State of the Team

The team went 18-7 in Spring Training, the best record in MLB, showing early signs that the big moves made this offseason will translate into a juggernaut come regular season. Unfortunately, the team will be entering the season without some key members...

News Dump

1B J.C. Correa will miss 3-4 months of the regular season with a severe hip strain. It feels even worse trading away Vinnie Pasquantino now, but Bo Naylor will get the starting job at 1B after a very strong spring and with my head scout still being high on him.

RP Emmanuel Clase will miss 2-3 months of the regular season with a partially-torn labrum. The bullpen thankfully has the depth it needs to go on without him, but it is a big blow nontheless and we hope his career is not set back because of it.

SS Jermaine Palacios will miss the first week of the season with a hamstring strain, opening the door for some other players on the bubble to make cases to stay on when he gets back. He is expected to go on a rehab assignment for this season.

1B Nolan Jones (2.0, 2.0) and 2B Ernie Clement (1.5, 1.5) were DFA'd in preparation for the Opening Day Roster. Rule 5 Draft picks RP Justin Hagenman (3.0, 3.0) and CF Jordyn Adams (2.0, 2.5) were also returned to their original teams. The remaining members of the Spring Training Roster who did not make the Opening Day roster were optioned.

June 2025 Roundup

State of the Team

The team sits at 63-25 after a ridiculous 21-6 June, a whopping 22 games up in the AL Central and having 10 more wins than the next-best record in MLB. The offense in particular clicked.

RP Emmanuel Clase returned from the IL. In a corresponding move, RP David Bednar was optioned to AAA Columbus.

3B Jose Ramirez also made another trip to the IL, but returned in the minimum amount of time.

2025 All-Star Break Roundup

State of the Team

The team has entered the All-Star Break with a 6-game winning streak, now sitting at 69-25. Pretty good.

News Dump

C Patrick Bailey returned from his rehab assignment. In a corresponding move, C Bo Naylor was optioned to AAA Columbus.

We agreed to terms with international amateur 17 year-old SS Rogelio Freiera (0.5, 5.0). Freiera profiles as an elite contact bat with decent power and discipline and can handle SS with the profile of an elite 2B. Only time will tell if he lives up to that.

We also completed a trade with the New York Yankees.

Outbound: RP Austin Aldeano (0.5, 0.5)

Inbound: RP Ken Giles (3.5, 3.5) (50% Retained)

Giles has posted strong ERA numbers over the last three seasons, but this year as his walk rate has improved drastically, his HR rate has ballooned. His strong production in spite of that makes me think that if he gets some better HR/FB luck he can be an elite reliever, and one that was available for little cost, as we only had to give up a zero-value prospect and are only on the hook for $4.4M/2yr. This could end up being our biggest move of the deadline, but we will continue to be opportunistic as the deadline gets closer.

All-Stars

We had a whopping 9 MLB All-Stars this season:

SP Shane Bieber*
SP Sonny Gray
SP Nick Lodolo
CL Jovani Moran
2B Andres Gimenez*
SS Carlos Correa*
3B Jose Ramirez*
CF Byron Buxton*
RF George Valera*

* = voted starter

We also had one Prospect All-Star:

SP Ethan Robinson (0.5, 2.5) - R ACL

First-Year Player Draft

This draft class was very weak, unfortunately.

33rd: HS RF Cannon Goldin (0.5, 3.0). Profiles as a solid all-around player. Well-rounded offensive profile with good contact and discipline and decent power. Good speed and defense as well.

64th: HS SP Chase Bentley (0.5, 3.0). Good four-pitch mix that can handle both RHB and LHB with decent control. Lackluster movement.

86th: HS SP Brett Crossland (0.5, 2.5). Big fastball-slider-changeup mix. Poor control and profiles as a reliever. Fastball velocity is already 93-95 with room to grow.

113th: HS C Mitchell Rodriguez (0.5, 2.5). Mediocre profile but could be a serviceable catcher. Power is his best attribute.

141st: CO SS Henry Kaczmar (0.5, 2.5). Decent contact bat. Elite 2B and baserunning profile. Makes up for mediocre speed with exceptional instincts. No power.

169th: CF John Wise Long (0.5, 2.5). Interesting profile with good contact and discipline. Good corner OF profile with great baserunning instincts.

197th: CO SP Ethan Voss (0.5, 2.5). Strong four-pitch mix but mediocre ratings. Innings-eater profile.

215th: CO SP Marco Fuentes (0.5, 2.5). Sits 94-96 with a big fastball-slider combo. Could profile as a reliever but lackluster stuff and movement. We'll see if those two pitches can take him further.

243rd: CO 3B Slate Alford (0.5, 2.0). Good power+discipline profile with poor contact and defense. Profiles as a 1B.

271st: CO 1B McKay Whitaker (0.5, 2.5). Overall decent offensive profile. No defensive or baserunning value.

The rest was auto-drafted.

2025 Trade Deadline Roundup

State of the Team

The team now sits at 76-34, just 7-9 since the All-Star Break. This is not unexpected entirely as multiple important pieces just returned from the injured list and will need time to find their footing again.

The team's AL Ranks:

Runs Scored: 1st
OPS: 1st
Runs Allowed: 1st
ERA: 1st
SP ERA: 1st
RP ERA: 12th
Defensive Efficiency: 1st
Zone Rating: 1st

News Dump

We made two trades at the trade deadline, both to address the bullpen. They were win-now moves that set the team up for the playoffs this year, but will cause us to need to look outside the organization for more relief pieces this winter.

Trade 1: New York Mets

Outbound: RP Jakob Hernandez (4.0, 4.0), SS Yordys Valdes (2.5, 2.5)

Inbound: RP Andres Munoz (4.5, 5.0) (100% Retained), RP Aaron Loup (3.0, 3.0) (65% Retained), SP Tylor Megill (2.5, 2.5)

Hernandez had been struggling with the long-ball this year and was very highly valued by the Mets, so I took advantage even though I may have overpaid for two rental relievers. Munoz gives me another legitimate weapon at the back end of the bullpen, while Loup fills the spot of the lefty reliever I was looking for with Hernandez out of the fold. Both are rentals. I asked for Megill for controllable SP depth in the minors and the fact that he could profile into a reliever if needed. Valdes was necessary to get the deal done and was expendable with my glove-first bench-profile SS depth. In a corresponding move, RP Marlon Perez was optioned to AAA Columbus.

Trade 2: Cincinnati Reds

Outbound: RP David Bednar (3.5, 3.5)

Inbound: RP A.J. Puk (3.5, 3.5) (100% Retained), 1B Alberto Osuna (1.5, 2.0)

With Perez also struggling, I wanted another lefty to add length to the pen and shore up any handedness weaknesses. Bednar had been struggling in AAA and was likely to be non-tendered this offseason, so I found the opportunity to ship him off to re-acquire Puk. My acquisition of Puk this time is much more realistic with what should be expected of him, as he can now easily slide into the bullpen. In a corresponding move, RP Lenny Torres was optioned to AAA Columbus.

1B J.C. Correa returned from the injured list as well. In a corresponding move, C Bo Naylor was optioned to AAA Columbus.

SS Carlos Correa went to the injured list with a strained oblique, but he will return in the minimum 10 days. In a corresponding move, SS Willi Castro (2.0, 2.0) was promoted from AAA Columbus.

Probably the most boring trade deadline I have ever seen. We'll check back in a month to see if we can get our winning percentage back over .700.

August 2025 Roundup

State of the Team

The team now sits at 91-48 after going just 15-14 in August, still under .500 since the All-Star Break. I hope the team rides into the playoffs hot...

The team's AL Ranks:

Runs Scored: 1st
OPS: 1st
Stolen Bases: 10th
Baserunning Runs: 3rd
Runs Allowed: 1st
ERA: 1st
SP ERA: 1st
RP ERA: 13th
Defensive Efficiency: 3rd
Zone Rating: 2nd

News Dump

Andres Gimenez went to the IL with a severe hip strain. Thankfully, he is expected to return just before the playoffs. In a corresponding move, 2B Aaron Bracho (2.0, 2.5) was promoted to MLB Cleveland from AAA Columbus.

Matt Vierling also went to the IL with a torn hamstring. He will likely return for the ALDS. In a corresponding move, CF Isaiah Greene (2.5, 2.5) was recalled from AAA Columbus.

With active rosters expanding to 28, RF Will Benson (2.0, 2.0) and RP Lenny Torres were also recalled from AAA Columbus.

2025 End-Of-Season Roundup

State of the Team

The team finished strong, going 15-8 in September and finishing 106-56. However, this is somewhat disappointing to not even finish with the best record of the U7Gohan tenure considering the team was on pace to blow past the MLB win record at the All-Star Break.

The team's AL Ranks:

Runs Scored: 1st
OPS: 1st
Stolen Bases: 11th
Baserunning Runs: 8th

News Dump

2B Andres Gimenez and OF Matt Vierling returned from the injured list in the final week of the season. They will both be on the playoff roster.

In a big announcement, RP Aaron Loup and RP Ken Giles did not make the playoff roster.

The Guardians can erase their second-half slump in this playoff run. Their first trial will be against either the Seattle Mariners or the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS. Let's see if this is the year.

2025 ALDS Preview

Around the League

In the Wild Card Series:

The Blue Jays got smoked in Game 1 by the Mariners before taking the next two. They will be the Guardians' ALCS opponent. Mariners 3B Jake Cronenworth (3.5, 3.5) won series MVP.

The Rays won two nailbiters against the Orioles to complete the sweep, winning both in walkoff fashion. Rays RF Vidal Brujan (2.5, 2.5) won series MVP.

The Reds won in 3 games over the Brewers, dismantling their vaunted starting rotation. Reds 2B Tyler Callihan (3.5, 3.5) won series MVP.

The Mets swept a low-scoring series with the Reds, winning by a combined score of 7-3. Mets C Francisco Alvarez (5.0, 5.0) won series MVP.

Series Preview

According to our Scouting Director, Will Ohman, the Blue Jays' top players are:

1. 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (5.0, 5.0)
2. C Alejandro Kirk (4.5, 5.0)
3. CL Scott Barlow (4.0, 4.0)
4. RP Colby White (3.5, 4.0)
5. 3B Matt Chapman (3.5, 3.5)

Guerrero, who has become consistently the best hitter in baseball, will be a challenge for our pitchers to keep tame.

Probable Pitchers

Game 1

Shane Bieber (13-7, 2.77 ERA)
vs.
Alek Manoah (9-11, 5.52 ERA)

Game 2

Sean Hjelle (13-10, 3.29 ERA)
vs.
Jose Berrios (11-8, 4.84 ERA0
