2032-33 Offseason
Development Lab
It was a successful first round of the Development Lab as roster players Billy Mumaugh (eye) and Jeremy Rogerson (power) both improved their current ratings by <5 while J.J. Paniagua saw his slider improve by 5 as well as a <5 potential improvement. At the top of the minor leagues, Danny Petty went from very fragile to fragile, Eddie Baquerizo improved his change up by <5 but added 5 potential to the pitch and Enny Mijhail Van Dyke added 5 to his power rating. Further down the complex, Edgar Alba successfully added a Slider (45/60) to give him 3 pitchers while Alfredo Pastora improved his contact, with his current BABIP improving by 5 and potential by <5. Only Bobby Witt Jr., Juan Zubia, Jeremy Joyce, and Josh Watson showed no improvement although all avoided any regression over the course of the programme. Round 2 was a lot less successful with no improvement from anyone other than Juan Zubia who successfully improved in all four INF ratings by <5. Juan Moreno, however, had a poor lab which has increased his leg injury risk. Awards AL Great Gloves Wyatt Langford KC NL Great Gloves AL Platinum Sticks NL Platinum Sticks AL Manager of the Year Estuar Ruiz TEX NL Manager of the Year Marc Brzozoski MIL AL Reliever of the Year James Karinchak SA NL Reliever of the Year Amari Blakes MIL AL Rookie of the Year Johnny Powell TEX NL Rookie of the Year Juan Ramon STL AL Cy Young Josh Cook DET NL Cy Young Stephon Mickell SD AL MVP Julio Rodriguez SEA NL MVP Steven Melendy PHI Pre-Arbitration Extensions & Trades It was a reasonably quiet year for arbitration-eligible players with only CF Sheng-En Lin ($1.45m), RP David Hagaman ($1.15m), SP Aiden May ($3.8m), and C Jonathan Gerew ($2.75m) offered pre-arbitration contracts, all on one-year deals. The only trade saw 2028 9th round pick Josh Wilson and 2031 trade acquisition Steve Carter (LAD) traded, alongside Organisational Piece Josh Contreras, to the Phillies for 20-year-old pitching prospect Chris Wolff and $2m cash. Both players had peaked in the minor leagues and were Rule 5 eligible so trading for a younger prospect made sense for the Royals. Arbitration & Qualifying Offers Wyatt Langford rejected the qualifying offer to test free agency which was a disappointment for the fans but will earn the Royals a supplementary draft pick in 2033. RP Wen-Hui Pan was not offered arbitration, becomes a free agent after three successful seasons in Kansas City, including his 2031 AL Reliever of the Year Award. International Free Agents There were no stand out International Free Agents so the Royals avoided this market. Rule 5 Draft The Major League quality at the top of the Royals farm is beginning to show with seven players added to the 40 man roster ahead of the Rule 5 draft, 5 bats and 2 arms: C David Isaza, 2B Dan Colligan, 2B Chris Maguire, SS Juan Delgado, and RF Enny Mijhail Van Dyke. CL Jon Holtz and RP Luis Escobar. In addition, following his post-guru trip decline, 3B Jake Adolphus was traded to the Atlanta Braves, getting 19-year old minor league CF Jesus Cipolloni and $10,000,000 in cash in return. Despite these additions, the Royals lost Minor League Free Agents Robert Gasser and Braxton Ashcraft to the Twins and the Nationals respectively, while the White Sox took 2027 International Scouting Discovery Nelson Luna. International Amateurs The 2033 Royals International Amateur class was headlined by Dutch shortstop Denis Schrama ($1.5m) and Venezuelan LF Jesus Aguilar ($2.5m). An average defender, Schrama profiles plus contact and power, with an average eye, and speed. Aguilar, meanwhile, profiles plus plus power with plus contact and an average eye but is a weak defender and is very slow. In addition, the Royals signed two more International Amateurs: Venezuelan RF Tilmăo Antnia ($900k): weak defender, plus contact and power, average eye, below average speed. Dominican SP Edgar Medina ($300k): plus stuff from a 4-pitch arsenal including 3 plus pitches, with average movement and above average control. Offseason Trades & Free Agents Saturday, December 11th , 2032 Traded 26-year old C Dave Holcombe to the Pittsburgh Pirates, getting 17-year old minor league RHP Julio Aguirre in return. Saturday, January 29th , 2033 Signed free agent RF Bryce Eldridge to a 1-year contract worth a total of $6,300,000. Wednesday, February 2nd , 2033 Signed free agent SP Blade Tidwell to a 2-year contract worth a total of $15,000,000. His injury problems led the Royals to move on from C Dave Holcombe, acquiring a high potential pitching prospect in Aguirre, who projects a 60-50-60 profile behind 4 pitches. Eldridge is the highest profile signing of the offseason; the former Giant signing for one year having hit 47 HRs in 2032. This softens the blow of losing Langford and was well received by fans. Blade Tidwell was a late addition to the roster having sat available through the winter. With the second year of his contract a Team Option, this is a low-risk acquisition for a Stopper with a 65-55-50 profile and two plus plus pitches. Financial Situation For the first time in several years owner John Sherman upped the budget in January, a $24m increase providing a potential war chest for any desired midseason reinforcements. Preseason & Spring Training The Royals survived preseason and Spring Training with no major injuries. In addition, they performed well on the field despite giving at bats and innings to youngsters, leading the AL Central with a 16-12 record. 2033 Roster Preview
The Royals are predicted to take a slightly backward step in 2033 with a 94-68 record (2 fewer wins than predicted in 2032), albeit with an improved run differential of +181 (10 higher than 2032). This record would see them qualify for a Wild Card playoff spot, behind a one-hundred-win White Sox team.
Billy Mumaugh is expected to have himself a year, a .318/.403/.553 line predicted for him while Mike Hoffer is expected to pick up where he left off with a 3.79 ERA behind 9.1 K/9. Catcher Dave Holcombe’s departure sees Jonathan Gerew with a new battery partner, 2029 10th round pick Walt Day making the opening day roster for the first time. David Isaza, a 2026 scouting discovery, spent time at Spring Training and will open at AAA as a defensive whizz. Starter: Jonathan Gerew 2027 8th Round Pick Back Up: Walt Day 2029 10th Round Pick Infield It was a crowded infield during Spring Training with the Royals surfeit of second basemen creating some decisions to be made. Tim Storer is entrenched as the starter with only Chris Maguire having the potential to unseat him. Storer was solid through the Spring, cementing his role while Maguire did enough to unseat 2032 back up infielder William Bergolla for an opening day roster spot; neither Dan Colligan nor Jesus Vela did enough and will start at AAA. The promotion to the Big Leagues of Danny Petty and Juan Zubia meant that there was also a crunch at Third Base. This has seen Jeremy Rogerson move to First Base to start the season, with Petty the everyday starter at Third. Zubia had a successful Development Lab defensively and opens the season on the roster. This does make Luis Zesati’s position challenging, and while he will open the season in AAA, a solid defensive start by Rogerson could open the Royals up to trading Zesati. Bobby Witt Jr. will start the season at SS for the Royals for the 11th season in a row. Juan Delgado was on the Spring Training roster and opens at AAA as a defensive replacement if needed. 1B Jeremy Rogerson 2027 2nd Round Pick 2B Tim Storer 2028 1st Round Pick 3B Danny Petty 2028 1st Round (S) Pick SS Bobby Witt Jr. 2019 1st Round Pick INF Luis Zesati 2032 Trade (Washington) INF Chris Maguire 2031 Trade (Dodgers) INF Juan Zubia 2027 International Amateur Outfield The core of the outfield returns for the 2033 Royals with homegrown stars Billy Mumaugh and Jimmy Goodman at the corners. Offseason acquisition Bryce Eldridge will act as 4th outfielder while taking the majority of bats at DH. Eldridge’s arrival meant that Will Gasparino’s time as a Royal came to an end as he was out of options. Enny Mijhail Van Dyke struggled in Spring Training and will start at AAA with every chance of seeing Major League time in 2033. At Centerfield, there was another crunch with reliever/outfielder Sheng-En Lin alongside last season’s starter Luis Gotay and 2026 International Amateur Edgar Manzo. Gotay’s defense was reported to have taken a dip over the offseason so the Royals chose to start with all three on the roster and see how the first month of the season goes. LF Billy Mumaugh 2029 1st Round Pick CF Luis Gotay 2030 Trade (Arizona) RF Jimmy Goodman 2027 1st Round Pick OF/DH Bryce Eldridge 2032 Free Agent OF Edgar Manzo 2026 International Amateur OF Sheng-En Lin 2029 Waivers (Angels) The rotation for the 2033 Royals picks itself with all five pitchers having finished the season in the rotation – Mason Barnett, Cade Townsend, Aiden May, Mike Hoffer, and J.J. Paniagua. With the extra bats opening the season, the bullpen will rely on two-way players Sheng-En Lin and Danny Petty and that made places very competitive. Offseason free agent signing Blade Tidwell will open in the stopper role with stalwart William Schmidt. Fellow stalwart David Hagaman is back, as is T.J. Brock and Marcos Paz. Colin White opens the season in the bullpen but needs to demonstrate an ability to stick after past struggles. Jon Holtz is the new internal player to the bullpen having pitched in AAA last year. Spring Training 40-man roster players who didn’t earn a spot included previous major league relievers Nicanor Berns, Jonathan Fleri, and Jake Early, as well as Eric Cook while starters Lazaro Espinal and Josh Olaniyan will start at AAA ready to step up should they be needed. SP Cade Townsend 2029 Trade (Yankees) SP Mason Barnett 2022 3rd Round Pick SP Aiden May 2028 Trade (Angels) SP MIKE HOFFER 2027 3rd Round Pick SP J.J. 2032 Prospect Preview
KC Top 500 Prospects
The Royals have a Stewart-era high 28 players ranked inside the top 500 prospects in baseball with a good balance throughout the farm. Juan Zubia and Chris Maguire are drawing the fans’ eyes as they open the season on the major league roster, with pitchers Eddie Baquerizo and Curt Bogens, as well as outfielder Enny Mijhail van Dyke looking to join them during the season. The most interesting prospect, however, might be Edgar Mir. The 2029 International Amateur has rocketed up to the number three prospect in baseball and, while he will start in A ball having been in the DSL in 2032, BNN believes he will make his debut this season which would be startling. He does look like he will absolutely overpower A ball pitching and Royals scouts think the 20-year-old is already an average MLB player! MLB Top 20 Prospects Four of the top 20 prospects in baseball will open on Major League rosters, with another two, including second-ranked CF Chase Bethea, in AAA. Alongside the Royal’s Zubia, it is a hitter’s year with two centerfielders and a catcher all making their debuts. The Royals have ascended to the top of the Farm Rankings with their international amateur hauls doing the heavy lifting in their 145 points. |

April 2033
MLB Standings
The Royals have been up and down in April but end with a 15-12 record and a 1 ˝ game lead in the AL Central division. The Orioles are a game ahead at 15-10 to lead the American League while the Mets are off to an impressive 18-8 to lead baseball a month into the season. Kansas City Results The Royals continued their dominance over AL Central rivals, although they did drop a series 2-1 to the Twins before beating the White Sox (3-1 at home, 2-1 on the road) twice and winning the first game of a road series against the Tigers to finish the month. It was a similar story against other American league teams for Kansas City. After dropping two of three on the road in Baltimore, they beat Houston and Baltimore 2-1 at home, before splitting a four-game home series against Houston. The red-hot Mets took two of three games in New York in the Royals only cross-division series. Kansas City Team Statistics The Royals bats have offset a strangely struggling rotation. The Royals lead the AL in most batting categories, even cracking the top six for home runs. Bobby Witt Jr. has taken advantage of the latest patch and has 11 stolen bases in the month after only cracking 30 in total twice over the course of this save! The arms are struggling with walks (tied 11th), as well as defensively (5th efficiency, 7th zone rating), meaning the 11th and 4th ranked starting and bullpen ERA combines for an 8th best 4.31 overal ERA. Juan Zubia is looking to force more opportunities after posting a 235 wRC+ over his first 30 plate appearances while Danny Petty (113 wRC+) works hard to hold him off! In the outfield, Bryce Eldridge has 7 Home Runs in the first month of the season although both Luis Gotay and Edgar Manzo have recorded negative ZR over the month. Cade Townsend (61 ERA+) has had a difficult first month of the season, although a .436 BABIP suggests there is some bad luck involved (as well as some poor support with a 3.88 FIP compared to 7.24 ERA) and the Royals trust he will return to form over his coming starts. In the bullpen, Danny Petty (999 ERA+) has yet to give up a run and has allowed only two hits in his 7.1 innings pitched but Blade Tidwell (75 ERA+) has struggled to adapt to life as a Royal so far. Transactions & Injuries Monday, March 21st , 2033
Both Will Gasparino (2026, 3rd round) and William Bergolla were out of options so the end of Spring Training saw them offered out to the rest of the league. Detroit offered the best return, in Major League ready Christian Doty and cash. Doty was subsequently sent on to the Pirates, for 21-year-old prospect Chris Lee, a plus defender with plus base stealing and the potential for above average contact with average power, and sending back most of the cash from the Gasparino/Bergolla trade. Marcos Paz got suspended for 11 games, giving Jonathan Fleri his chance while T.J. Brock’s season-ending injury opened the door for Jacob Misiorowski (an 8 year MLB veteran with plus plus stuff) to join the roster. Billy Mumaugh’s injury gave the Royals the chance to go a bit more traditional and add an extra arm, Eric Cook being promoted from AAA and Bryce Eldridge moving into the outfield. Minor League News International League (AAA) Pitcher of the month: Eddie Baquerizo (2030 1st Rd). 4-0 mark and 1.45 ERA in 5 starts. The Storm Chasers star hurler also rung up 39 strikeouts in 31 innings. Midwest League (A+) Batter of the Month: Toby Demkowski (2031 3rd Rd). .507 batting average, 6 home runs, 29 RBIs and 18 runs. May 2033
MLB Standings
The Royals go 12-16 for their worst month this decade, although eerily similar to their 13-15 May in 2032. This season it sees them falls 3.5 games behind the White Sox (31-25) and 1.5 behind the Twins (28-26). The White Sox are half a game behind the Mariners (31-24) for the best record in the American League while it is the red hot Padres (36-21) who are leading a National League with the second (Cubs 33-22) and third (Marlins 32-23) best records in baseball. Kansas City Results The Royals had a torrid month, winning only one series over the course of May. Having won the opener at the end of April, Kansas City managed only two runs across two games to drop a road series to the Tigers, who took two of three at Kauffman later in the month although the Royals did take the first game of an important four-game road series against the Twins on the last day of the month. The only winning series was a three game road series against the Blue Jays, before they dropped home series 1-2 to the Rangers and the Avalanche, as well as dropping two road series by the same score to the Rays and Mariners. Even a split four-game road series against the Angels felt like a disappointment with the Angels ending the month at 20-33. Once again, there was only one National League series, the Royals dropping two of three to the Brewers at home. Kansas City Team Statistics The Royals have been a little unlucky with a pythagoran record of 29-26 which suggests it is not panic stations yet. The bats have cooled off somewhat but still sit in the four for most metrics except runs scored (8th) and home runs (9th) while the bullpen has recovered to sit 3rd for ERA and with the whole battery combining for the most strikeouts (531) in the American League. Bryce Eldridge (60 wRC+) struggled in an everyday role and the Royals will be happy to have Billy Mumaugh back in June, as a 32% strikeout rate combined with a -2.5 ZR for Eldridge is not in line with the Royals ethos. On the other corner, Jimmy Goodman (122 wRC+) showcased what a corner outfielder should look like, with 6 home runs to go with a 16.5% walk rate, an 18.3% strikeout rate, and a 1.3 ZR for the month. The starting rotation were solid without being spectacular over the month, Josh Olaniyan (147 ERA+) doing very well in his first starts while covering for Mike Hoffer. In the bullpen, there are questions over Blade Tidwell’s (136 ERA+) fit after another subpar month while Colin White (101 ERA+) is struggling to justify a position having come into the season on the hot seat. Looking at the stats, there may be a case to move to FIP- to evaluate pitchers month-to-month to try to take defensive metrics out of their evaluation. In any case, there would be no surprise should the Royals pick up a left handed reliever over the course of June. Transactions & Injuries Thursday, May 5th , 2033 2B Chris Maguire was injured while running the bases. The diagnosis is not yet known. Saturday, May 7th , 2033 2B Chris Maguire diagnosed with back spasms, will miss 5-6 weeks. Purchased the contract of SS Juan Delgado from Triple A Omaha. Friday, May 13th , 2033 SP Mike Hoffer was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: elbow tendinitis. He's expected to miss about 4 weeks. Purchased the contract of SP Josh Olaniyan from Triple A Omaha. Wednesday, May 25th , 2033 Sent LF Billy Mumaugh to Triple A Omaha for injury rehab. June 2033
MLB Standings
A mediocre month for the Royals leaves them at 41-42 at the end of June, 3.5 games back from the surprise AL Central leading Tigers (43-37). The AL Central is the weakest of the American Leagues with the Mariners (48-35) and the Blue Jays (47-34) leading the way. Over in the National League, the Padres are the clear best team in baseball with their 52-33 record making them the only team with a winning percentage above .600. Kansas City Results The Royals had a .500 month, frustrating going 14-14 after starting 7-2. They won both series against AL Central opponents, winning two of three to finish off a 3-1 series at the Twins, and sweeping the Guardian 3-0 at home. It was a poor month against other American League teams as the Royals dropped all four series – getting swept at home by Seattle (3-0), losing three of four to the Yankees as part of a six-game losing streak, and then losing 1-2 on the road to both the Avalanche and the Rangers. Against the National League it was a better month as the Royals won home series against the MLB-leading Padres 2-1 and the East-leading Marlins 3-0 although they dropped a road series to the Dodgers 1-2. Kansas City Team Statistics The Royals remain a solid hitting team, leading the AL in average (.261) and extra-base hits (295), although the perennial struggle to hit home runs (9th) or take walks (10th) continues. The core draftees of the team carried the bats, with Jeremy Rogerson (139 wRC+), Billy Mumaugh (158) and Jimmy Goodman (187) all slugging over .500 with Mumaugh and Goodman batting over 1.000 OPS for the month. Defensively the Royals have struggled this year and the outfield is the big problem, with Bryce Eldridge (-2.2), Mumaugh (-0.3), and Luis Gotay (-4.1) all offering subpar defence. Finding an elite centrefielder to allow Gotay to back up the corners will be the focus for the front office leading up to the trade deadline at the end of the month. Arms wise, Mason Barnett (179 ERA+) is having a quietly productive season, while Cade Townsend (164) began to bounce back. Aiden May hasn’t replicated his 2032 form and with a couple of strong arms pushing in AAA may be relegated to a bullpen arm. The bullpen had a tough month, with Eric Cook (27 ERA+), Jonathan Fleri (53), and Marcos Paz (45) struggling in particular. A shake up of the bullpen may be on the cards depending on how the month goes. Transactions & Injuries Wednesday, June 1st , 2033

2033 All Star Break
The Royals suffered a five game losing streak to head into the All Star Break, leaving them at 47-51 and five games back from the AL Central lead. Big decisions will need to be made in the second half of the month to stop the season drifting away from the Royals.
The Royals had three All-Stars, all home grown players - Jeremy Rogerson (1st time All Star), Billy Mumaugh (2nd) and Jimmy Goodman (1st) getting the call with Goodman starting in Right Field. The American League won the game 9-1, although the Kansas City players did not make the best impression, going 0-5 between them. The multiple All-Star bats reflect a hitting corps that many would rank as the best in the American League, with top three rankings across the board except in home runs (10th), walks (9th), base running (13th and 15th), and, very frustratingly, runs scored (6th). The challenge has been in the pitching with the bullpen an uncharacteristic 7th and the defence the worst of the Stewart era, 7th and 5th for defensive efficiency and zone rating respectively. Jimmy Goodman is the pick of the hitters, and with 61 RBIs he is on track for his first 100 RBI season. Mason Barnett leads the starting rotation pitchers for ERA (3.77) although Mike Hoffer can consider himself unluck as his FIP (3.42) is over two runs lower than his ERA (5.96). |

2033 Front Office All Star Break Review
Owner Goals
Team Record: Injuries have hurt us but we can't make excuses, we need to push hard the second half of the year to accomplish the goal I set out for you. Get it done. Upgrade a position: I don't see an improvement from where we were last year at Catcher. Please be on the lookout for an upgrade, if you want to keep me happy. Acquire a player: I asked you at the beginning of the season to improve the team at Great Glove Award winner. So far, you haven't made any progress. I hope you'll keep looking. I think a new Great Glove Award winner is just what this team needs to turn the corner. Improve your fan interest: I haven't seen much progress in the area of fan engagement. Minor Leagues Edgar Mir destroyed A ball pitching, producing 8 WAR in the first half of the season. He moves up to AA for the second half of the season, and will look to skip AAA and start next year on the Major League roster. Enny Mijhail Van Dyke has performed well at AAA and is ready to move up, as is Curt Bogans. Eddie Baquerizo has already made the move on the back of 3+ WAR at AAA. Similar to Mir, Toby Demkowski destroyed High-A pitching and moves up to AA after 7 WAR in the first half of the season. 2027 Draft The low draft spot for the Royals has seen a fundamental flip in the approach taken by Stewart, with 2033 seeing all six picks from the first five rounds being high school players, two pitchers, two infields, and two outfielders. With their first round pick, the Royals selected high school arm TP Bender. Projected to end up with 80 stuff, to go with plus control, and above average movement, scouts see Bender as a potential multiple Cy Young winner. A six-pitch arsenal is impressive, particularly when it includes a potential 80 curveball, four plus plus pitches, and a plus sinker. Round 1 (Suppl.), Pick 6 - CF Mike Thomas, age 17 out of high school – although likely limited to the corners, Thomas projects plus plus power to go with above average contact and eye, and plus speed. Round 2, Pick 29 - 1B Nelson Fantauzzi, age 18 out of high school – a weak defender, with poor speed, Fantauzzi will need to maximise his above average eye and contact, as well as plus power to succeed. Round 3, Pick 25 - 2B Jimmy Monroe, age 18 out of high school – another bat first pick, Monroe projects plus contact and power to go with an above average eye. Round 4, Pick 27 - RF Jim Burditt, age 18 out of high school – a solid outfielder defensively, with a strong work ethic, Burditt is of a similar profile with plus contact and power potential to go with an above average eye. Round 5, Pick 29 - SP Jamie Gross, age 18 out of high school – above average stuff is paired with plus control and average movement, in a four-pitch arsenal. Two plus pitches provide a good base, but Gross will need to find a third quality pitch to succeed in a starting role. It is another Rookie ball heavy class, with only two picks – 9th round pick SP Chris Downey (A) and 19th round pick RP David Vela (A+) – starting above the R level. The Royals signed a 19-player class as 18-year-old C Jon Tucker did not sign and will return to school. The top five picks of the draft were high school focussed although 5th pick Eddie Edwards may be the best pick with the shortstop already close to MLB ready: Round 1, Pick 1 - Minnesota Twins: SP Art Ostroff, age 18 out of high school Round 1, Pick 2 - Washington Nationals: SP Prince Faulcon, age 18 out of high school Round 1, Pick 3 - Los Angeles Angels: CF Callum Maclean, age 18 out of high school Round 1, Pick 4 - Cincinnati Reds: SP Andy Pennington, age 19 out of high school Round 1, Pick 5 - Atlanta Braves: SS Eddie Edwards, age 21 out of college |

July 2033
MLB Standings
There is some separation at the top of the American League with the Mariners (66-40) and Yankees (62-44) the only 60-win teams at the end of the month. The White Sox (58-49) lead the Central where the Royals sit third, with an equal 53-53 record with the Tigers. The National League has tightened up with only the one 60-win team, the Padres (63-44) comfortably leading the West while it is the Marlins (58-47) and the Cardinals (58-47) with slender leads in the other team divisions. As would be expected in July the Wild Card standings are close with seven teams in the American League within three games of a Wild Card, and six teams within four games over in the National League. With a very active trade deadline, the next month will be crucial for teams with playoff aspirations. Kansas City Results A strange month for the Royal which started out splitting a home series against the weak Guardians 2-2 before 2-1 series victories, at home against the Rays and on the road in Colorado, giving a 6-4 start to the month. Any pre-ASG positivity was swept away in a five-game road trip losing streak, losing both games in St. Louis and all three games in Boston. Things did not really improve coming out of the All-Star Break as the Royals dropped two of three at home to the White Sox, and now had gone 1-7 since the draft. The revamped team, see transactions below, managed to find some form to end the form, and keep themselves relevant, with a 3-0 sweep at home to the Diamondbacks, before taking the first two games of a home series against the Cubs, including scoring 20 runs in the first game of the series! Kansas City Team Statistics Kansas City continues to be a bat driven team in 2033 with NL leading marks across the batting statistics, from batting average to slugging percentage. Positively, the runs scored has gone from 6th to 3rd over the course of July, helped by the 20 runs in one game against the Cubs! The pitching continues to be a challenge but one that the Royals have addressed through one blockbuster trade, along with the promotion of several young arms and a redeployment of the pitching set up. With the exception of Danny Petty (96 wRC+) every starter had a above league average month by the wRC+ metric. Top of the pile was Billy Mamaugh (261 wRC+) who was rewarded with the AL Batter of the Month award after a 1.380 OPS including 7 HRs in the month. The shake up of the pitching staff makes comparisons hard for the month of July but there are clearly some struggling arms (Misiorowski, Schmidt, May) that may be replaced from within to give them a rest over the final couple months of the season. Transactions & Injuries Friday, July 1st , 2033
It was one of the busiest months of Stewart’s tenure in Kansas City as two major shakeups were accompanied by a combination of injuries and bullpen changes to see a revamped Royals roster to end the month. On the first day of the month, underperforming back up Catcher Walt Day was traded to the Tigers for Christian Cerda, a similarly rated defender with a superior eye offsetting weaker contact. Both catchers have a similar profile so the $20m included in the deal was a strong addition to the July war chest. On the same day, KC moved to solve the defensive hole that had been Centerfield. The Giants Drew Burress is an elite defender with two CF Golden Gloves to go with his 2029 ROTY Award. In year one of an 8-year, $166.6m contract this would have been too rich for the Royals so creativity was required. Sending Bryce Eldridge back the other way was the core of the deal, and the addition of overperforming SP Josh Olaniyan, and 24-year old prospect C David Isaza allowed the Royals to convince the Giants to retain all of Burress’ contract plus contribute $20m in cash. This sets the Royals outfield for the rest of the decade, pairing Burress with All-Stars Billy Mumaugh and Jimmy Goodman. The fans reacted positively to this news, while the acquisition of a Gold Glove winner aligned with goals of Royals’ ownership. Pitching-wise, Mike Hoffer returned from inury to take Josh Olaniyan’s place while Eric Cook was sent down to Omaha, Eddie Baquerizo replacing him in an effort to jumpstart the bullpen. The run of five losses heading into the All-Star break so a further change, prospect Curt Bogans earning his first call up at the expense of Jonathan Fleri. A couple of batter injuries heading into the All-Star break saw Bobby Witt Jr. return from rehab in place of Juan Delgado while Chris Maguire came back to the big leagues when Tim Storer got injured. The second big moving day came the day following the All-Star Game as the Royal went all in on the season. Firstly, Luis Gotay had been underperforming with the bat and had proven unplayable at CF so was traded to the Red Sox for a long shot pitching prospect and cash; however, this allowed the Royals to call up Enny Mijhail Van Dyke as 4th outfielder. Delgado and Storer being injured had put pressure on the infield defence and so the Royals decided to sacrifice their 5th OF in Sheng-En Lin and call up 2029 trade acquisition Ed Nicholson. However, that decision was blown out of the water as the Royals decided they had to shore up their starting rotation while their young arms were acclimatising to the Major Leagues. Four-time All-Star Chase Dollander was in the final year of his Rockies contract and on the trading block. The Royals were able to use $40m of cash secured earlier in the month, along with 2032 1st Round Pick Panthea Theothanou, who scouts project as a second-division starter, to secure the rental of Dollander, including prospect reliever Rozelle in the deal as a bonus. David Hagaman was the man to make way in the bullpen, as part of a major revamp that saw Dollander joined by the return of Marcoz Paz to the starting rotation and all of the young arms sent to a traditional bullpen for the remainder of the season. Losing Goodman for 5-6 weeks at the end of the month hurt but the bright start from Enny Mijhail Van Dyke meant the Royals are confident their batting line up can survive the remainder of the season without Goodman. Minor League News Dominican Rookie League (R) Batter of the Month: Alejandro Estrada. .644 with 82 RBIs, 37 walks. Around the League Transactions Sunday, July 31st , 2033 The Los Angeles Angels traded 30-year old C Edgar Quero to the St. Louis Cardinals, getting 23-year old 2B Davon Beyah and 22-year old minor league RHP Jonathon Petticrew in return. August 2033
MLB Standings
The Mariners (80-53) and the Yankees (76-57) continue to dominate the American League while the Central is turning into a division with the Royals (69-64) equal with the Tigers (69-64), and trailing the White Sox (71-62) by two games. They will need to sweep a 3-game home series against the Tigers to claim the tiebreaker but have already secured the tiebreaker over the White Sox. In the National League, the Padres (79-55) have the second best record in baseball, while the Marlins (74-58) are comfortable in the East. The Central is, again, where the action is with the Cubs (73-60) and the Cardinals (71-61) battling it out with the Reds (70-64) ready to pounce if both teams slip up. The Rangers (73-59) and the Blue Jays (73-61) both took big steps towards the post season in August and are now 4.5 and 3.5 games up in the standings. The final AL Wild Card will likely come from the Central, with that home series against the Tigers looking critical for the Royals in September. It is much tighter in the National Leagues where there are five games separating 5 teams and it is anyone’s guess who will take the three spots, although the Cardinals (71-61) are best placed at this point, four games up on the Pirates (67-65). Kansas City Results The Royals are finally trending in the right direction, with a 16-11 month being their best of the season so far (.592). The month started with the completion of the sweep over the Cubs, before the teams shared a charter back to the Windy City so the Royals could take two of three from the White Sox. A 2-2 split, also on the road, against the Tigers followed, before coming home and dropping a home series 1-2 to the Red Sox. A split two-game series at home to St Louis was followed by a sweep of the Twins in Minnesota, including a doubleheader, before winning two of three in Cincinnati. The Royals cam crashing back to earth getting swept at home by the woeful Angels, but responded well to win a home series against the Phillies and ending the month winning the first two games of a three game series against the Guardians. Kansas City Team Statistics While the bats cooled, the bullpen stepped up in this productive month for the Royals. Still leading the American League in batting average, hits, and extra-base hits is a good place to be, although the runs scored dropped again to 7th (649). The bullpen ERA has shot up to top the American League (3.89), while there are several top three statistics now which bodes well for the final full month of the regular season. Bobby Witt Jr. (148 wRC+) carried the offence over the month, a .934 OPS with 4 HRs and 7 SBs. Danny Petty (66 wRC+) struggled, although he is providing elite defence at 3B to support the pitching staff. On the pitching side, Mason Barnett (263 ERA+) and Cade Townsend (121 ERA+) both had strong months and the Royals hope that Chase Dollander (80 ERA+) is just adjusting to his new surroundings. Eric Cook (382 ERA+) came back up to the big leagues and brought his AAA performances with him, while Mason Fluharty (150 ERA+) provided strong relief throughout the month. The Royals are only lacking a reliable closer as none of Baquerizo, Bogans, or Hoffer managed a save rate above 70%. Transactions & Injuries Friday, August 5th , 2033 SP J.J. Paniagua was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: hamstring strain. He's expected to miss about 3-4 weeks. Purchased the contract of RP Eric Cook from Triple A Omaha. Wednesday, August 31st , 2033 Sent SP J.J. Paniagua to Triple A Omaha for injury rehab. A quieter month in August although a few injuries have caused challenges for the management. Eric Cook got another chance due to J.J. Paniagua’s injury, with Aiden May moving back into the starting rotation. Edgar Rivera (2026 Discovery) earned his first call up when Cerda got injured. The big loss was Edgar Manzo who will miss the rest of the season; with Jimmy Goodman back from his injury that means Ed Stevens will get a few more chances over the last month of the season. Minor League News Texas League (AA) Batter of the Month: Alex Duke (2029 2nd Round) .375, 12 HR, 38 RBI. September 2033
MLB Standings
The Royals will not manage four-in-a-row as the White Sox have clinched the AL Central. They will be joined in the American League as Division winners by the Mariners, who are on pace to win 100+ games this season, and either the Yankees or the Blue Jays. Over in the National League, the Marlins have clinched the East, while the Cubs need one win or a Brewers loss to clinch the Central, and the West is a shootout between the 90-69 Padres and Dodgers. The American League Wild Card picture is a lot clearer with the Blue Jays needing only one win to at least lock up one spot and the Rangers well placed to gain the second. The surging Red Sox (10-0 streak) have edged ahead of the Royals, whose destiny is no longer in their own hands. They do not hold tiebreakers over either the Red Sox or the Tigers so have to sweep their final series (at home to Atlanta, 57-102) and hope that Boston drops a game (at Tampa Bay, 66-93). Over in the National League, it is a free for all with only four teams eliminated and three games to play. The Padres or Dodgers have one place locked in and the Brewers need only one more win but the final place likely won’t be decided until the final day of the season with tiebreakers most certainly in play! Kansas City Results Another frustrating month for the Royals as they go 13-13 and miss the opportunity to challenge for the Divisional pennant or even solidify their Playoff spot. To start the month they were unable to complete the sweep of the Guardians and then despite taking the first two games could only split a four-game series against the Astros on the road. Coming home for two divisional series saw them drop the first game to the Guardians but then win their next five games to win that series 2-1 and then sweep the Twins 3-. The good time continued in a 2-1 road win over the Yankees before dropping two of three on the road in an interleague series in Pittsburgh. They came home to win their final divisional series 2-1 against Detroit, although failing to sweep meant they lost the tiebreaker. The penultimate final home interleague series went very badly; after a tough 9-10 12 inning loss in game one, the Royals failed to score a run in the next two games to be swept by the Giants. The month ended on the road in Washington where despite winning the first game, they dropped the series. Kansas City Team Statistics The Royals continue to underperform their metrics with a record 6 games under their Pythagorean record (88-71). This is reflected in strong statistical performance across the batting spectrum, with only Home Runs (10th), Walks (13th), and (critically) runs scored (7th) outside of the top 3 in the American League. The bullpen has turned their season around since the All Star Break and posts the best ERA (3.70) in the American League, leading to a host of top three categories. The defence has remained a weakness this year, a reflection of the Royals giving some more exciting bats a chance, as well as the regression defensively of Bobby Witt Jr. Danny Petty (163 wRC+) rebounded in September, hitting for a .967 OPS while maintaining elite defence while Jeremy Rogerson (145 wRC+) needs two HRs in the final three games for a 30-100 season! Chase Dollander (119 ERA+) has improved from his August numbers while Danny Petty (97 ERA+) picked up some starts for the first time in his career. In the bullpen, Eddie Baquerizo (999 ERA+) didn’t give up an earned run over 8.2 innings while Mason Fluharty (127 ERA+) struck out almost a third of batter he faced over 15 innings. Transactions & Injuries Thursday, September 1st , 2033 Optioned SS Ed Nicholson to Triple A Omaha. Purchased the contract of 2B Tim Storer from Triple A Omaha. Purchased the contract of RP David Hagaman from Triple A Omaha. Purchased the contract of 2B Dan Colligan from Triple A Omaha. Optioned 3B Juan Zubia to Triple A Omaha. Purchased the contract of 1B Luis Zesati from Triple A Omaha. Saturday, September 17th , 2033 Optioned RP Eric Cook to Triple A Omaha. Purchased the contract of SP J.J. Paniagua from Triple A Omaha. The Royals make two major moves on September 1st, in addition to the roster expansion additions of RP David Hagaman and 2B Tim Storer (coming back from rehab). They sacrificed some defence for bat in sending Ed Nicholson down to Omaha and calling up Dan Colligan while Juan Zubia was not getting enough ABs or results so was given the final month of the season in AAA to improve allowing Luis Zesati to return to the big leagues after a solid season in Omaha. The first three days of October would determine the wild card places for the 2033 postseason. In the American League it was simple: three teams for the final spot with a single game separating them.
The Red Sox (82-77) would take on the worst the American League had to offer at home, the Tampa Bay Rays (66-93). The Royals (82-77) would take on the worst the National League had to offer on the road, the Atlanta Braves (57-102). The Tigers would be at home but would take on the AL Central winners, the White Sox (86-73). The Red Sox score nine in the second inning and it’s a canter from there as they win 12-5. It wasn’t much harder for the Royals, who scored three in the 4th and two in the 5th on the way to a 7-1 win. The Tigers kept their hopes alive, coming from two down to tie it up in the bottom of the 8th before winning it in the 10th. No change in the standings, The Red Sox leading the Royals courtesy of the tiebreaker, with the Tigers one game back. |

Game two of the final series of the season and all still to play for in the American League Wild Card race. The Red Sox were in control, courtesy of their head-to-head advantage over the Royals while the Tigers were just trying to stay alive in case both teams ahead of them stumbled.
It’s another rout for the Red Sox, who score twelve runs in four innings and run our 13-6 victors. The Royals are even more impressive as a four-run third innings gives them breathing space before they turn on the afterburners to rout the Braves 17-2. The Tigers hopes come to an end, though, as the White Sox break a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh to take the win 3-2. Entering the final day of the regular season it’s simple; if the Rex Sox win (their 13th in a row) they move on; if they lose, a Royals victory will see them emerge as the final Wild Card team. |

October 3, 2033
The final day of the regular season is here and Red Sox and Royals fans are equal parts excited and apprehensive as their teams look to secure post-season baseball.
In Atlanta the game started with a bang, as the Royals scored three in the top half of the inning, only for the Braves to counter with a four-run inning of their own to take the lead. Meanwhile, all was quite in Boston, a scoreless first inning putting the Red Sox on top in the postseason race. The second inning saw the Royals score once to tie the game at 4-4, but the Red Sox scored twice to take the lead in their game and retain the advantage. It was blanks across the country in the third inning before the Rays shocked the Red Sox in the top of the 4th, scoring three runs to take the lead 3-2. In Atlanta, this put the Royals in the box seat for the first time with the score still tied at 4. The 5th inning was a good one for the home teams; after the Rays extend their lead with a run, Boston scores two to tie the game at 4-4; meanwhile in Atlanta a pair of runs give the Braves a 6-4 lead and it is back to advantage Boston. None of the four teams were able to trouble the scorers in the 6th and the same was true in Boston for the 7th. However, the Royals weren’t ready to go out without a fight and took the lead, 7-6, scoring three runs. In the bottom of the 7th, however, Atlanta took the lead straight back, two runs leaving them ahead 8-7 and the Red Sox dreaming of the post season. The top of the 8th and the pressure was cranked up. It was too much for the Red Sox, who gave up three runs to fall behind 7-4 and, despite one run in the bottom of the inning, they would enter the 9th two runs behind 7-5. Down in Georgia, the Royals managed to tie the game up, one run enough to level the score at 8-8. When Atlanta couldn’t respond it was the Royals for only the second point in the game who were on course for the postseason if they could outscore the Braves in the 9th. The Rays kept the hammer down in the top of the 9th, another three runs giving them a 10-5 advantage heading into the final half inning of the season and leaving Boston needing something special to keep the postseason in their own hands. This became even more important when the Royals scored in the top of the 9th to take a 9-8 lead and leave themselves six outs (three in Boston, three in Atlanta) from a fifth successive trip to the playoffs. Neither the Red Sox nor the Braves were able to trouble the scorers in the 9th, leaving the Royals to take the final spot in the playoffs. It was a tight race with the Royals eventually securing the final spot with a 85-77 record, only two games back from the Yankees and the Rangers. Over in the National League, it was the Padres (91-71), the Brewers (84-78), and the Cardinal (84-78) moving on. |

2033 Playoffs
AL Wildcard Series AL Central match up as the Royals face the division-winning White Sox for the first time in the postseason since losing the ALCS 4-1 in 2030. The White Sox went on to win the World Series that year, someone that has eluded this generation of Royals. While the White Sox won the division, the Royals won the regular season match up 8-5, suggesting an interesting series on our hands. The winners will move on to play the Blue Jays in the Division Series. Game 1 in Chicago: Chase Dollander vs Dan Nichols (2027 1st Round)
Game 2 in Chicago: Cade Townsend vs Noah Schultz (2022 1st Round) Chicago WINS 5-4 Schultz (W): 7.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R Townsend (L): 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R Eric Romreil (SV): 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R George Lombard Jr (POTG): 2-3, HR, 3 RBI 2-0 Chicago WINS MVP: Lombard Jr. The Royals season ends at the hands of the White Sox for the second time in four years as the Kansas City hitting corps is shut down by two home-grown Chicago pitchers. The Royals fought for the whole season but couldn’t replicate the 2031 or 2032 teams in putting wins together and relying on hitting proved fatal when it came to the postseason. Another season of Playoff baseball, however, shouldn’t be dismissed and the team is better than on the first day of the season. The Blue Jays are crowned the 2033 Champions, winning their first World Series since back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993. It was a dominant postseason for Toronto, the Canadian team only dropping two games, sweeping the White Sox before consecituve 4-1 wins over the Mariners and the Cubs. The Cubs had reached the World Series with a comfortable sweep of the Marlins before taking all seven games to eliminate the Dodgers. Kansas City Postseason Stats Owner Goals Review A mixed bag on the goals set by John Sherman. The immediate goals of upgrading at Catcher and improving Stolen Bases were failed (although Bobby Witt Jr. had strong year), while fans will debate whether the team is better placed to win a Championship than at the end of last season. Fan Interest continues to improve and the acquisition of Drew Burress accomplished the Great Glove goal. Minor Leagues Post Season Omaha Storm Chasers [AAA] won the Championship. Northwest Arkansas Naturals [AA] lost in the Championship Final. Quad Cities River Bandits [A+] lost in the 1st Round. Columbia Fireflies [A] lost in the Championship Final. Kansas City (ACL) Royals [R] lost in the Championship Final. Kansas City (DSL) Royals Stewart [R] lost in the Championship Final. Kansas City (DSL) Royals Glass [R] won the Championship (back-to-back). |

2033 Year End Player Evaluation
A disappointing Wild Card Series exit for the Royal, although from their position at the ASB break it was an impressive second half of the season giving some hope for 2034. For the first time in the Stewart era the bullpen really struggled in the first half of the season, with the starting rotation struggling all season. Weak defence up the middle (as Bobby Witt Jr’s range decreases) may be the cause and is something to evaluate over the winter.
Catchers Jonathan Gerew (77 wRC+) wasn’t quite the 2031 player but rebounded from last year to offer over 1 WAR, with strong ZR and Framing. Christian Cerda (56 wRC+) arrived mid-season and really struggled with the bat. An elite defender, he is a lite version of Gerew and as a free agent is unlikely to return. Edgar Rivera made it to the big leagues to cover Cerda’s injury and may offer a nice bat to complement Gerew’s glove. The Catching corps are short an elite starter and scouts will be on the lookout over the winter, especially with Gerew coming entering his second year of arbitration. Infield Jeremy Rogerson (142 wRC+) stepped into 1B and excelled, culminating in him winning the American League Batting Crown with a .311 average. He led the team in HRs (28) and RBIs (105) and the Royals will hope he can be a 30-100 hitter next year. In addition, he entered Royals record lists with the 3rd most total hits in a season (338), with the 2nd equal most doubles (51). Tim Storer (90 wRC+) and Chris Maguire (92 wRC+) shared the 2B duties. Storer is an elite defender at 2B while Maguire has the stronger bat. Both remain minimum contracts for 2034 but there may only be room for one of them with Maguire the likelier to be traded if the right deal can be found. Danny Petty (109 wRC+) had a solid rookie season and with his elite defence beat out Juan Zubia (89 wRC+), who ended up back in AAA. It is an important off season for Zubia who could be a trade candidate for the right package. Bobby Witt Jr. (115 wRC+) missed some time to injury and posted a negative ZR (-2.3) for the first time in his career. He still added 3.5 WAR over the season though and is now within ten of the Royals career record. Where he plays in 2034 will determine the role of several of the players above. Juan Delgado (66 wRC+) and Ed Nicholson (-16 wRC+) came up as defensive cover for Witt Jr. with neither offering a long term solution. Outfield The corners of the Royals outfield are set for the long term and both provided All Star value in 2033. Billy Mumaugh (150 wRC+) finished second to Rogerson for the Batting Crown with a .309 average and his HR (20) and RBI (82) were only down due to missing some time to injury. Jimmy Goodman (140 wRC+) walked almost 15% of the time while striking out less than 18%, leading to a team-leading .389 OBP. Drew Burress (111 wRC+) was a net positive as an in-season acquisition. He struggled defensively at the end of the year (-2.9 ZR) but with the Giants picking up his whole salary for the next six years, he will play as long as he keeps offering value. Enny Mijhail Van Dyke (110 wRC+) made his debut in 2033 and was a perfect 4th outfielder, just about able to cover all three positions with the glove and offering an above average bat. Ed Stevens (17 wRC+) did not bring value over his occasional chances and will return to AAA to start 2033. Offseason / Early 2029 Overview CATCHER Starter: Jonathan Gerew Arbitration Back up: Edgar Rivera INFIELD 1B Jeremy Rogerson Arbitration 2B Bobby Witt Jr. 3B Danny Petty SS Tim Storer INF TBC INF TBC OUTFIELD LF Billy Mumaugh CF Drew Burress RF Jimmy Goodman OF Enny Mijhail Van Dyke OF TBC Starters Mason Barnett (116 ERA+) was a solid contributor in his 9th season for the Royals, adding 2.5 WAR despite a tough July where he had an 8.27 ERA. The Royals have a TO for 2034 of $11m and will likely pick it up for a Fan Fav to be a 5th starter. Chase Dollander (99 ERA+) didn’t provide the elite arm the Royals hoped they had signed from Colorado with an ERA almost a run higher than he managed for the Rockies! A free agent, the 32-year-old is looking for 4-year $132m contract, which the Royals certainly will not offer until after he hits free agency. J.J. Paniagua (99 ERA+) offered similar returns as Dollander, which overall is a disappointment after his rookie season. His BB/9 jumped from 2.5 to 3.2, and the Royals will hope that last season was a better reflection of his control. Marcos Paz (118 ERA+) was a lot stronger in relief (144 vs 102 ER+) but stepped up in returning to the rotation in the big shuffle midseason. Entering arbitration, the Royals will have to decide on Paz’s future soon. Cade Townsend (103 ERA+) added 3.4 WAR but saw his ERA jump by over a run from 2032. A FIP only 0.1 run higher suggest Townsend suffered from the drop in the Royals’ defence in 2033. Townsend enters the first year of arbitration which will likely be the only affordable year left for the Royals. Aiden May (87 ERA+) pitched too many games for the Royals for his performance, which was a large regression from 2032. A drop in his control means he is unlikely to be offered arbitration and this will spell the end of his time with the Royals for the 2032 All Star. Mike Hoffer (95 ERA+) also started over 10 games and struggled to replicate his 2032 form. However, with a much higher ceiling it is likely Hoffer will be back in the starting rotation in 2033. Bullpen Six pitchers (including Hoffer) had a FIP of under 3.50 for the Royals, including Jon Holtz with an impressive 2.94. The other high performers were Mason Fluharty, Eddie Baquerizo, Jonathan Fleri, and Danny Petty. Only Mason Fluharty is eligible for a non-minimum salary in 2034 and as a free agent he is unlikely to return. Curt Bogans and William Schmidt both kept their FIP under 4.00; Bogans will return most likely in a starting role with Schmidt back in the bullpen. The remainder of the bullpen are at risk for 2034, with David Hagaman, Jacob Misiorowski, Eric Cook, Aiden May and Colin White all finishing with a FIP of over 4.00. 2033 Front Office Review
Owner Goals
There are only two existing goals retained for the 2034 season – the first to win a Championship in 2034 and the 2035 goal of improving fan interest, which has seen strong improvement since it was set two years ago. Three new goals, two for the coming season and one longer term. Extending Chase Dollander seems unlikely with his contract demands (4-years, $35m AAV), while improving stolen bases has been an unachieved goal it seems every year! The long term goal is to build a Championship team by 2039; how that aligns with the first goal is unclear! Finances After years of cuts, 2034 finally sees an increase in player payroll budget to $110m. This comes as Fan Loyalty increased from Average to Above Average, giving some confidence to management of retained income. Increased attendances and season ticket sales continue to drive a positive financial model for the Royals. Personnel Jay Rainville, the Rookie League Pitching Coach was the only personnel departure, replaced by R.J. Sprang, signed on a one year contract as the Royals struggle to fill the pitching coach role for the ACL team. Colin Stewart was rewarded for the 5th consecutive year of playoff baseball with a new contract. Some stability is provided for the first time, along with another pay rise, as he is given a two-year contract at $2.2m. Minor Leagues Dan Jones continued his dominance of the Texas League, winning his 6th Manager of the Year Award in a row while there was recognition for 2026 5th round pick Kevin McBride and 2031 17th round pick Pete Austin, also at the AA level. Awards Rookie (ACL) Mathew Figueroa Manager of the Year Rookie (DSL) Jason Flach Manager of the Year A Johnny Isom Manager of the Year AA Dan Jones Manager of the Year AA Kevin McBride 2026 5th Round Outstanding Pitcher Award Rookie (DSL) Alejandro Estrada 2028 International Amateur Most Valuable Player Award A Masafumi Sakamoto 2032 International Free Agent Most Valuable Player Award AA Pete Austin 2031 17th Round Most Valuable Player Award Notable Retirements Although the Royals had the usual raft of retirements from the minor leagues at the end of the season not a single international amateur or drafted player chose to retire this season. KC Top 500 Prospects Performance Three Royals prospects graduated to the Major Leagues, with Enny Mijhail Van Dyke and Edgar Rivera likely earning returns to the roster in 2034; Ed Stevens has done well to reach the big leagues but will face a fight to return nex year. Outside of those players, there were strong batting performances from several players: Edgar Mir and Alex Duke both advanced to AA and dominated pitching there while Juan Moreno did the same to A ball pitching. Pitching wise, the prospects are a little further behind after a raft of promotions over the last two years but Chris Wolff at A level and TP Bender in rookie ball performed well enough to suggest the conveyor belt will continue to run smoothly. |

Jeremy Rogerson is rewarded for winning the Batting title with a 7-year extension (two TO years), buying out his las three years of arbitration and potentially taking him through to 34 years old. Left handed pitcher Curt Bogans has all the tools to flourish as a starter and the Royals pre-emptively lock him into a 10-year, team-friendly deal with two TO option years that also takes him through to 34 years old at a $9.3m AAV. Thursday, December 22nd , 2033 RP Nicanor Berns was designated for assignment and placed on waivers. Placed C Sam Hart on the secondary (40-man) roster. Placed SP Brad Demarest on the secondary (40-man) roster. Placed CF Alex Duke on the secondary (40-man) roster. Placed SS Ian Gordon on the secondary (40-man) roster. Placed RP Mike Halpin on the secondary (40-man) roster. Saturday, December 24th , 2033 Drafted RP D'Mani Hamble in the 2033 Rule 5 Draft (Round 1, Pick 22, 22nd overall Pick) from the Cincinnati Reds. Sunday, December 25th , 2033 RP Nicanor Berns was claimed off waivers by Baltimore. A few transactions ahead of the Rule 5 Draft saw a collection of infielders who hadn’t shown a viable bat/defence combination to stick in the Major Leagues for the Royals. Maguire, #79 prospect, was the biggest departure but his glove was never gone to play in the Royals infield and the return in Chafin, with potential plus plus stuff and three plus plus pitchers seemed a good return. The fans disagreed with a small drop in interest due to their unhappiness. Several players were added to the 40 man to protect them with Nicanor Berns the only player waived that didn’t make it through waivers; the Orioles claimed him. In the draft itself, the Royals lost no one and picked up a potential bullpen arm in D’Mani Hamble who probably doesn’t survive Opening Day cuts but will have the chance through Spring Training. Thursday, December 29th , 2033 Signed free agent SP Raimon Gomez to a 1-year contract worth a total of $1,400,000. Following the Winter Meetings, several former Royals made their offseason moves. Chase Dollander signed a 5-year contract with the Phillies for less money than the Royals offered him frustratingly and the fans were shocked at the decision to let him go. They were upset, although less so, at the departure of Jacob Misiorowski who ended up at the Twins. The only major league roster signing was the return of Raimon Gomez, a former Rule 5 pick up who had become too expensive for the Royals but has had a solid career and signs on for one year.
