The 33-year-old Singer suffered a strained oblique in a 7-1 win over the Brewers on Sept. 30. Singer has spent most of the season at AAA Memphis, but did pitch in 13 games for the Cardinals. In those games, he went 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA. Getting called up from AAA Memphis are infielder Thomas Saggese and left-handed reliver Nathaniel Heredia. Saggese, 24, has spent most of the season with Memphis -- hitting .286 with 23 home runs and 72 RBIs in 123 games. But he did spend a brief time in the majors, playing in five games/three starts during which he hit .286 with no homers or RBIs. MLB news: Oct. 5 -- Yankees make postseason as wild card
After falling short a year ago, the New York Yankees are back in the postseason after a 9-3 win over the Kansas City Royals the final American League wild-card berth.
The Yankees (82-80), who finished third in the AL East some 15 games behind first-place Toronto, will meet the AL Central champion Cleveland Guardians in the best-of-three Wild-Card round. New York finished one game ahead of Seattle in the fight for that final playoff spot. The Yankees have made the playoffs eight of the last nine seasons and nine of the last 11. Their last World Series appearance came in 2009, when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies. Last edited by rink23; 07-02-2023 at 02:50 AM. |
