StL drops their 3rd straight game against last place Nebraska.

SP Ty Johnson was wild, but battled through 4 tough innings to limit the damage to 2ER despite 5 H and 5 BB allowed. Rookie Ryan Reich came in relief, but did not offer much ... relief, 3 ER in 1.1 IP.

At the plate, the Shires scored 1 R on 10 H, with an additional 4 BB ... leading to 12 runners LOB. Even though he has been off to a hot start as a new Shire, Marcel Ozuna left 6 men on base himself.

Valdez put the Nightmare up 1-0 in the 2nd, as StL tried to avoid a sweep at home vs Nebraska. Webb left the game in the 3rd inning with an injury (Strained Oblique, moderate, one week ... will miss next start). Rookie Keifer Lord stepped in, and stepped up, delivering 3.1 IP of shutout ball. Lord passed the baton to Whitlock who kept the game in order.

In the 8th, Christian Moore delivered his 22nd HR to put StL up 2-1, and resulting Hoffman getting his 4th relief win as a Shire. Hentges closed out the game for his 34th save.

Windy City wins the series finale against the Guitarra, and heads home to host a 3-game series against division rival St Louis. The Whitetails trail the Shires by 1 game in the division.

Tommy Tanks walked inthe 1st and was driven home by an Ozuna double to give the Shires an early 1-0 lead.

Tommy Tanks kept it going with a solo HR in the 3rd, 2-0. Nolan Gorman responded with a solo HR in the 4th, the only run the Whitetails would score off Ohtani over 6 IP.

StL added to their lead with a big 3-R HR off the bat of CF Chase DeLatuer. Windy City made a late game charge with 2 hits off Hoffman, who was replaced by Hales, who allowed 2 consecutive hits scoring both inherited runners and one of his own. Hales was able to record the final out, earning his 1st save of the season.

Windy City fought back after yesterday's close loss, tagging Aldegheri for 6R (5 ER) in 4.1 IP, including 2 HR in the 1st 2 innings.

StL's lone run came off the bat of Chase DeLatuer with a solo HR, giving him longballs in back to back games.

The 3-game series between StL and WC is not only important in determining who wins the division, but also displays 3 of the top candidates for the West CYA. In G1 Ohtani was solid, 3 R in 6 IP, game 2 saw Aldegheri get hit around, and game 3 features Windy City's ace Abraham Tejada.

Windy City was active in the 1st, with some generosity from SP Sonny Gray. With 1 out, Nolan Gorman singled. After Vasquez popped out to SS, Gray issued back to back walks, loading the bases for former Shire player Armando Alvarez (.220 1 HR), and he cleared the bases with a double down the LF line, giving the Whitetails an early 3-0 lead.

In the top of the 3rd it looked like StL was going to have it's own big inning as they loaded the bases with no one out on a single by Barrera and consecutive walks to DeLatuer and Moore. Roman Anthony flew out to shallow RF, and Ozuna and Beltre both struckout to end the run scoring threat with no runs scored. It looked like that would be the regretful moment for the Shires in this important game.

Gray would gather himself and throw 5.2 scoreless innings following the 3-run 1st inning. In the 7th, Nunez led off with a walk, followed by a walk to Barerra. DeLatuer hit into a crushing DP, and Nunez would score on a wild pitch as Moore earned the eventual walk. Moore stole 2nd base and Anthony was HBP. Ohtani came up clutch with a run scoring single to bring the Shires to within 1 run of the Whitetails. Beltre walked to load the bases and Trenein struck out rookie Pete Brace to maintain the WC 3-2 lead.

In the 8th, Nunez walked with 1 out, and stole 2B, before Barrera grounded out for the 2nd out. WC brought in lefty Tanner Scott to face LHB Chase DeLatuer, prompting bench coach Descalso to PH Tommy "Tanks" White, a risky move given Chase's success in the last 2 games. Tommy Tanks proceeded to blast a 2-run HR deep into the left field night, giving the Shires a 4-3 lead.

Whitlock and Hentges closed out the game, and the series, giving StL the win and maintaining the division lead.

The West's best team, Monterrey Monsters, came into StL and got off to an early lead, 4-0 after the 3rd inning, as Ty Johnson struggled. The Shires battled back little by little in the middle innings and tied the game on a clutch double by Tommy Hanks.

The celebration was short lived as Keifor Lord ran into his 1st meltdown of his rookie season, allowing a pair of 2-R HRs. The Shires would respond with 2 runs in the 8th, but fell short 9-6.

Windy City had the day off.

Facing tough right, Hunter Brown, gthe Shires surprised with consistent scoring throughout the game on the way to a 7-4 win.

Barrosa, McLain, and Anthony all had 3 hits each, with Barossa being the star of the show, driving in 3 runs.

Logan Webb kept the Monsters at bay with 2 ER over 5.2 IP. Keifer Lord struggled again, allowing another 2 R, before being bailed out by Hentges to preserve the win.

Tied 1-1 in the 5th, the Monsters got to Ohtani for 4 runs. It looked like Shohei was going to get out of the inning with minimal damage until Juan De La Torre mashed a 3 run HR that would be more than offense for Monterrey as Corbin Burnes shut down the StL offense.

Aldegheri and Thornton were engaged in a good 2-2 game until the bottom of the 7th inning, when the Shires went off with a scoring spree. Ozuna led off with a single to LF and Tommy Tanks followed with a walk. Beltre hit a bloop single over the 1st baseman's head to load the bases, and DeLatuer singled home Barossa to take a 3-2 lead. Recently called up back-up catcher Brady Neal singled home a run, and 2 outs later Matt McLain tripled to clear the bases. Brace singled home McLain to end the scoring with StL leading 8-2, and that would be the final score.

Nebraska with the walk off win. I'm glad StL isn't the only playoff hopeful having problems with the last place team.

In the 3rd inning Pete Brace drove in the game's first run to put StL up 1-0. Later in the inning Romo delivered a 2-Run HR to go up 3-0.

That was more than enough for SP Sonny Gray as he held fellow playoff contender Salt Lake to just 1 run over 6 IP, striking out 6. A late run allowed by Kelley set up Hentges to get an easy 37th save of the season.

Last place Nebraska proves to be an obstacle for Windy City, just like they were for StL when they took 3 out of 4 against the 1st place Shires.

Salt Lake got to Ty Johnson for 3 runs in the in the 2nd and another run in the 4th to jump out to a 4-0 lead. The Stampede would get to Ryan Reich for 2 more runs in the 6th for a 6-0 lead.

This, however, was the beginning of the Shires comeback journey. In the bottom of the 6th, Anthony hit a 1-out double, and Ozuna would single him home. Ohtani would then double home Ozuna to make the score 6-2.

In the 7th, Brace walked and would score on a 2R HR by DeLatuer, 6-4 Salt Lake. Ozuna started off the 8th with a leadoff single and moved to 3rd on a single by Ohtani. Romo reached on a FC as Ozuna was thrown out at the plate. McLain reached on another FC, putting runners at the corners. Down to the last out in the 8th, rookie Pete Brace drilled an opposite field 3R HR to give StL a 7-6 lead and experienced his "ROY Candidate" moment.

Hentges finished of the 9th for his 38th save.
