Georgie Small
Laverne Roach has been rated, but not, I think, the fighter who "killed" him.
Small was a Brooklyn Jewish middleweight who was born in 1925. Fought from 1945 to 1955. Record: 43-13-1 (20) From his bio at Jewsinsports.org: "Small fought the majority of his early fights in the New York area. Early in his career, he defeated Baudilio Valencia twice before meeting the more experienced Lee Sala. In March 1949, Small fought his first bout outside of New York and lost a ten-round decision in Cleveland, Ohio. "The following year, Small fought Laverne Roach and knocked out his opponent in the tenth-round. Roach died from injuries sustained in the fight. Small returned to the ring three months later and fought Hall of Famer Kid Gavilian in May 1950. He lost a ten-round decision. "After getting knocked out in the tenth round by Billy Kilgore in February 1952, Small then fought future world middleweight champion Joey Giardello and was knocked out in the tenth round." I've searched, but cannot find a picture of him.

Not exactly the most anticipated fighter pack of the year, but...
STRAWWEIGHTS / MINIMUNWEIGHTS / MINI-FLYWEIGHTS
Whatever you wish to call them, I am sending a fighter pack containing 326 tbdx files to Cornerwork. It contains everyone not yet rated that is in the current top 50. It includes a few dozen assorted midgets that fought at weights at or under 105 prior to the establishment of the division. Some were included simply because they had a cool name (how could I pass on "Texas Gomez" or "Hudi" or my favorite, "Sugar Ray Mike" - but he qualified under other criteria) More importantly, it contains every boxer that fought for one of the following titles but hasn't yet been rated. (if you find one that is missing, you have way too much time on your hands): WBC WBc International WBC Continental Americas WBC Fecarbox WBF WBU South American OPBF IBO WBO WBO Latino WBO Asia Pacific WBO Intercontinental IBF IBF Intercontinental IBF Pan Pacific NABF PABA WBA WBA Fedelatin WBA Fedecentro Argentine Australian Chilean Colombian Indonesian Japanese Korean Mexican Nicaraguan Paraguayan Philippine South African Thai Venezuelan and even a guy that won the Free State Strawweight belt in his pro debut and then was beaten senseless in 8 or 9 straight bouts. The overall fighter rating distribution for this group is as follows: RATING Number of Fighters 10-------------- 3 9--------------- 4 8--------------- 18 7--------------- 17 6--------------- 20 5--------------- 27 4--------------- 33 3--------------- 36 2--------------- 22 1--------------- 146 It was a pretty ugly group, between those included in the stock data base and the 50 or so that I rated two months ago, the cream was long gone from this milk jug. I understand that other than me, there is a guy named Mel in Sante Fe that runs a strawweight division, the rest of you can feel free to ignore this whole affair. Christopher

I can hear fight fans all over crying out "But what about Daud Sanusi?!"
This stiff was in a different folder and didn't make it into the zip file sent to Cornerwork. DAUD SANUSI SW 1987-1988 Hometown - Surabaya, Indonesia 1(0)-3-1 Early knockout victim to Nico Thomas. After that experience, he stayed away from boxers with two names; being stopped by Ponidi twice, drawing with Juhari and finally pulling out a win against Batokana.
