I think that is a good point. I wonder if in the coming years you will see a shift on where they get drafted.

John Paul Morosi sure gave all the Detroit talk shows something to talk about today. The idea that Skubal could get Baltimore’s top three prospects (one of which is the #1 prospect in baseball) is sure intriguing.

That would be tempting. Nothing less of course.

With all the injuries (including Manning in Toledo), it is down to two bullpen days each time through the rotation. I guess it's Kenta time again. (although that will still be a bullpen day if he can't get out of the second)
Keith and Malloy are starting to figure it all out! Perez continues to please too.

... and tonight's starter is - Tyler Holton. AKA, NOT Kenta Maeta!

So, it turns out not having a starting pitcher can be not so great.

I guess I just don't care enough to spell his name correctly anymore. :-(
Tough losses these past two games. Needed them both. Selling time; break out the hankies.

Greene on the IL again. Ugh
The Kely trade was good. A DFA pick up from last year for two long shot semi-prospects. Always good to see a something for nothing deal and it gets Dingler up to the bigs. Waiting to see where Flaherty and Chaffin go and what comes in return. May see Miller, Ibanez, and Foley head out too. Starting rotation of Skubal, Montero, TBD, TBD, and TBD is rough. My diminished goals for the season: - See Greene, Mize, Olsen, and Carpenter get healthy - See Torkleson and Meadows round back into average MLB players - Continued gradual improvements for Maloy, Keith, and Perez - Get a look at Jackson Jobe in the bigs - Pray

Fun Fact: That Cleveland shortstop Daniel Schneemann's surname is German for "snowman".
Less fun: that rain trying to drown each and everybody on the field.

The Canha and Chafin deals were 'something-for-nothing' deals and getting Sweeney for Flagherty is fine. Sweeney will be a good bench piece at the MLB level right away. Overall added pitching and catching depth into the system.
Nt blown away but I am fine, they moved the right players. Brutal remainder of the season coming.

This is about to get super ugly. I'll set my watch for Skubal starts and pretend there is no baseball in between.

Javy's current stats, for those who've lost track:
230 AB 4 HR, 32 RBI .178/.210/.274 .484 OPS, 34 OPS+ Excuse me, 34??? How? I did see that Javy has drawn 8 walks vs only 52 strikeouts. I guess he's not being aggressive enough at the plate? I mean, the 140 OPS+ salary drive as a Met (while the team was going 21-39 or whatever and completely embarrassing themselves) in 2021 was obviously unsustainable and the drop to 91 in 2022 not entirely unexpected. But 63 last year? And 34 this season?? Wooooow. (And this with Javy going yard in three straight games recently. Hate to see what the stats were like before that.) |

It's dismal. Kreidler (his backup) had a negative OPS+ at one point if you can believe that.

They are a mess at SS. I happened to catch Harris doing an interview the other day and when asked about Javy he said that they are committed to working with him to get back to the player he once was. Now on one hand, what else could he really say. He is not going to throw him under the bus on live radio. Between the lines though it tells me that they have nobody else (which we all probably know) but more importantly he is a victim of sunk cost fallacy. To further reinforce my point he was asked that even if they spent money last winter in free agency it wouldn’t matter what they made because the best players would still play. Harris responded by saying that they need to be intentional with the money they spend and if they spent money in FA then you are making a commitment to those players. So I’m glad he didn’t spend because it sounds like players they needed to see would have been blocked. It is just tough because the fanbase, maybe all fanbases are tired of never ending rebuilds in sports. This one for the Tigers is getting on in years at this point.

The Tigers are also tied with the Angels for the longest active postseason drought in MLB, being on the outside looking in since 2014, as casually mentioned on the Mets-Angels broadcast yesterday.
Two more teams that know how to shovel bundles of dollars into a raging fire!
