The Giants have 7 games vs LA in the next week and a half. If they do have what it takes to get to the postseason, these next three series will determine it.

I’m happy they’ve come together as a club and didn’t go into the tank after they had their Dog Days of August spiral. Buster and BoMel should be credited for that and trusting their players. Whatever happens, it’s a fun end to the season.

The Mets couldn't hold off a well-motivated colony of ants.

San Francisco ranks number 1 in quality of broadcasters.

Radio Broadcasters, specifically. San Diego took a somewhat surprising #1 on the TV side. (No knock on Don Orsillo and Mudcat Mark Grant; I'm just wondering if GKR having been so good for so long has sparked some contrarian backlash.)

Howie Rose was held down because the new guys (Keith Raad, Patrick McCarthy) are very new and McCarthy, the son of Phillies TV man Tom McCarthy, apparently is just biding his time before he can go grab Daddy's seat in South Philly.

(I have no idea how the Philly TV team of Robo-McCarthy and John Kruk got a good score; everybody praising Phightin' radio crew of Scott Frantzke and Larry Andersen seems to hate the TV guys.)

it is crazy that the Dodgers are going to have not even a top 3 record in the NL, after a lot of people were just positive the Mariners win record was going to be broken. Could still lose division!

Right along with all the people who were OUTRAGED when the woman went over and called him on his dick behavior and demanded (and eventually) got the ball back.

"OMG, he was doing it for his kid!" Big f'n deal. It's not as if the son had gotten the ball on his own. If Dad wants to get the kid a HR ball so bad, he can buy one on eBay.

(You can get the ball Johnny Ray hit for a dinger off of Jeff Innis on June 14, 1987 for $129. [Mets won the game anyhow, 7-3. Suck it, Johnny.])

And now all these mob-mentality psychos are calling the woman a "Karen" (I thought we weren't supposed to use racial insults?) and doxing her (apparently she's a school administrator in NJ) and trying to get her fired and all the tiresome crap that makes modern America such fun.

Call me a sexist, but if a woman is trying to pick up a ball that went to her, not you, now is not the time to do your "scoop-and-score" routine. I don't care if you spawned; stick your "parent privilege" up your butt. Grrr.

ETA: Jesse Barfield off of Todd Stottlemyre, September 17, 1990, for $125. (Also did not help, as the Jays won, 6-4. That's what the Yanks get for starting the not-exactly-immortal Steve Adkins.)
Yep..and the blue-haired lady then completed her Mother Teresa act by screaming obscenities and flipping off an entire section.

Dude...I HOPE you were having fun, and being sarcastic.

That discussion has been labeled as "done".

On another topic, I notice that catchers do not tend to block home plate when it's Aaron Judge barreling down on them.

Then I wondered, what is the rule on that? Are they allowed to do so?

Yes, according to this from the MLB Glossary:
Quote:
The catcher is not permitted to block the runner's path to the plate unless he is in possession of the ball. The runner can be ruled safe if the umpire determines the catcher violated this rule.

However, blocking the path of the runner in a legitimate attempt to receive a throw is not considered a violation.

She didn't like being heckled by people who had no idea what was going on, big whoop.

I don't like seeing people pile on in a situation they know nothing about.

(I'm also not fond of having people mock me for having an opinion different than theirs…)

Well, one thing's for sure. You MUST get along with Amazin, no matter what. Else, the Met's thread will self-destruct. It's so massive, it may take down the entire forum!

Clayton Kershaw will begin his very short trip to the Hall of Fame after this season. All 18 seasons with one team, rather remarkable these days in itself.

I don't care if folks disparage W-L now; 222-96 looks super cool. I am willing him NOT to lose more than three games the rest of the way.

All-time legend Kershaw will retire after this season

One of the best of this era. I always tuned in when I had the chance to watch him pitch. And I hate the Dodgers.

Should we point out the multiple seasons where you, my furry friend, have kept the thread humming for months at a time, without even the merest peep from me? I mean, I enjoy unearned props as much as the next insecure, emotionally-needy person, but come on, now.

Too bad the Mariners selected Brandon Morrow instead of him with their first rounder that year.

See, this is how it starts. Now Westheimer will retort with "How dare you call attention to my furriness? I happen to take pride in my fur. I groom it every day. Maybe you would like me to send you one of my hair balls as proof?"

"You, on the other hand, remind me of a palmetto which is 'a branchless palm with long, fanlike evergreen leaves that spread atop a thick stem, or trunk. Botanists do not consider it a true tree since it lacks a solid wood trunk.' How do you like that, my spikey friend?"

And so on.
