In fact, he never wore a number that ended in 30. Now, there is a chance this is a spring training photo and he wore a different number then. I also have another photo of Woodeshick, and he does not look a lot like this. I went to eBay to see photos of Woodeshick and on his baseball cards he is not wearing glasses.

I honestly don't know what he looks like, but there is at least reason to believe this is someone else. Any thoughts?
There's certainly room for doubt. I have a dim memories of seeing Woodeshick with glasses but nothing comes up on Google Images. I'll have a look through some of my old magazines. There is certainly a facial resemblance in these two pictures.

I love this detective type work. Does anyone else have information?

Am I sure? Well, no... I'm hardly ever absolutely certain. I go by what I find, and what other images I can compare a given photo to. I do, however, try not to post frivolous identifications.

In this case, the image came from this eBay auction, which, unfortunately, does not show the back of the photo. What I can say with some degree of certainty is that it's not Chuck Hiller.

Boy the lines in his face on either side of his nose certainly match. He looks so much older in the photo with the glasses. I wonder if he went to spring training with the Tigers as an instructor or something after he retired. thus wore a different number.

I'm thinking this might indeed be Woodeshick, but it might be after his playing days, or maybe he tried to catch on with the Tigers at the end of his career and was cut.

I'd have agree with Cheech. I have a feeling it's Chuck Hiller. In comparing your two photos and Hiller's 1965 Topps card, I'm pretty certain that they're all the same person. Whoever put the photo up for auction on eBay made a mistake. I've seen it before. I found one photo of pitcher Jim Perry in a Minnesota Twins uniform posted with an incorrect name - guess he/she couldn't read the autograph. Probably posted by some estate sale bargain hunter who doesn't know any about baseball.

Don Choate 1960 vs. Chuck Hiller 1961

Here is the photo in question, on the left, and a Chuck Hiller photo which seems to have been taken just a few moments later. Note the brow crease between the eyes, right ear formation (easier to compare with the color image to the right), eyebrow size and formation, jaw line and chin dimple. Next is a Chuck Hiller image from his 1965 Topps card, and next to it a photo of Don Choate from 1958.

Although the image in the eBay auction was listed as Don Choate, it actually shows Chuck Hiller.

The photo does show Woodeshick. Here is the photo in question (left), with a 1960 Senators photo and a picture from his 1965 Topps card. Note the right ear formation, which is quite unique.

Well done with the identification!

Much obliged because I did not have one of him in Tiger Uni.

Here is a link to another Tigers image, this one from Woodeshick's first stint with the team (note the much different "D" hat logo).

you're a thousand times the historian that I am, and I would tell anyone who cares to take your judgment over mine any day of the week and twice on Sunday... I don't see it in this case, which is just me lookin' at photos. It may or may not be Don Choate, I have no idea who the devil Don Choate is/was or what he in fact looks/looked like... but, to me, I don't see any real resemblance to any image of Chuck Hiller that I have or have ever seen.

Hiller has thinner lips and far more prominent cheekbones...

edited to add: I wish the supposed Don Choate photo showed him smiling... then we could compare teeth with the snaggletoothed Hiller!
