Game 133: Boston Americans vs. Philadelphia Athletics
A season-best pitching performance by Noodles Hahn led the Boston Americans (70-63) to a 4 to 1 victory over the Philadelphia Athletics (73-60).
Noodles Hahn (16-14) picked up the win by limiting the Athletics to 1 earned run on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 10; Game Score 82. Mordecai Brown (15-17) was burdened with the loss after giving up 4 earned runs on 12 hits and 1 walk; Game Score 51. Hahn's performance produced a season best Game Score and Strikeouts. The Americans hitting-attack was powered by Fred Clarke (2 for 4, Triple, 2 Runs), Jiggs Donahue (3 for 4, Run, 2 RBIs, 2 Stolen Bases), and Danny Shay (1 for 3, 2 RBIs). Tommy Corcoran (2 for 3, Double, Run) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #15 / Career: #60)

Game 134: Boston Americans vs. Philadelphia Athletics
Watch out, the Americans are on a 2-game winning streak. In today's game, the Boston Americans (71-63) topped the Philadelphia Athletics (73-61) by a score of 10 to 6.
Jesse Tannehill (19-14) snapped his 3-game losing streak and picked up the win despite allowing 6 earned runs on 12 hits, 2 walks, and 1 hit batsman; Game Score 38. Opposing pitcher Earl Moore (20-13) was roughed up for 9 runs (6 earned) on 9 hits, 3 walks, and 1 wild pitch in 5 2/3 innings of play; Game Score 20. Dan Daub pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball before turning it over to Lave Winham who allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits in 2 innings of play. The Boston hitting-attack was led by Frank Chance (3 for 5, Run, RBI), Fred Clarke (3 for 5, 2 RBIs), Danny Shay (2 for 5, 2 Runs, RBI), and Dave Brain (2 for 5, Run, RBI). In the loss, Billy Clingman (2 for 4, Triple, 2 Runs), George Davis (2 for 4, 2 Doubles, RBI), and Dick Harley (2 for 3, Run, 2 Stolen Bases) hit the ball well. Player of the Game: Frank Chance (Season: #3 / Career: #9)

Game 135: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
A rather disappointing showing from the home team, as the Chicago White Sox (59-76) -- who possess the worst record in the American League and the 2nd worst record in MLB -- came into the Bay State and thumped the Boston Americans (71-64) by a score of 8 to 3.
Bill Carrick (14-17) picked up the win after allowing just 3 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 59. Sam Leever (18-14) was roughed up and tagged with the loss after he permitted 8 runs (6 earned) on 15 hits and 1 walk in 8 2/3 innings of play; Game Score 27. Wiley Dunham covered the final 1/3 inning in relief. The White Sox batters saw the ball rather well today, as they were led by Hughie Jennings (4 for 5, 2 Doubles, Run, 4 RBIs), John Anderson (2 for 5, Double, 2 Runs, RBI), and George Treadway (2 for 4, 2 Runs). For the home team, Chick Stahl (3 for 4, RBI), Fred Clarke (1 for 3, Homerun, Run, RBI, Walk), and Jesse Hoffmeister (1 for 4, Run, RBI) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Hughie Jennings

Game 136: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
A quick shuffle to the pitching rotation allowed Noodles Hahn to get the start in what was hoped to be a winnable game. Hahn did his job well, and the Boston Americans (72-64) beat the Chicago White Sox (59-77) by a score of 6 to 2.
Hahn (17-14) earned the victory by keeping Chicago in check, allowing 2 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4; Game Score 65. Brickyard Kennedy was tagged with the loss after 6 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits and 3 walks; Game Score 36. There was a nice distribution of offense from the Americans, as Jiggs Donahue (2 for 4, Homerun, 2 Runs, RBI, Stolen Base), Danny Shay (1 for 3, Double, 3 Runs, RBI, Walk, Stolen Base), and Noodles Hahn (2 for 3, Double, RBI) hit the ball well. The Chicago hitting-attack was primarily from John Dobbs (2 for 3, Walk) and Harry Bay (2 for 4). Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #16 / Career: #61)

Game 137: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
The previous game pitching rotation change was also done in part in hopes of getting Jesse Tannehill to the 20-game victory mark for the season. Tannehill got his chance today, but things didn't turn out well for him as the Chicago White Sox (60-77) topped the Boston Americans (72-65) by a score of 6 to 4.
Charles "Chief" Bender (17-18) pitched a solid game to pick up the victory; allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits, 2 walks, and a wild pitch; Game Score 56. Jesse Tannehill (19-15) was burdened with the loss after permitting 6 runs ( 5 earned) on 9 hits, 3 walks, and 2 hit batsmen; Game Score 45. The star hitter of the day for the White Sox was Charles Frisbee, who went 4 for 5 (2 Doubles) with a Run, an RBI, and a Stolen Base. Mike Grady (1 for 3, Triple, Run, RBI) and Joe Connor (1 for 4, Double, Run, RBI) also played well in the win. For the Americans, Homer Smoot (1 for 3, run, RBI, 2 Walks, Stolen Base), Dave Brain (3 for 4, Double, Triple, 2 Runs), and Fred Clarke (2 for 5, Triple, Run) hit the ball well in the loss. Player of the Game: Charlie Frisbee

Game 138: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
After posting a 19-9 record with the Triple-A Clearwater Hooks, the Boston brass decided to give Willie Garoni the chance to start his first major league game. While the 1st inning was challenging, Garoni settled down and found a grove that resulted in a respectable outing. While the game didn't go his way as the St. Louis Brown (62-76) topped the Boston Americans (72-66) in the 3 to 2 outcome, perhaps the Americans have found a future back-of-the-rotation option with Garoni.
Picking up the win for the Browns was Weldon Henley (18-16), as he allowed 2 earned runs on 8 hits and 4 walks; Game Score 64. Willie Garoni (0-1) was tagged with the loss after he permitted 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 6 walks; Game Score 54. The St. Louis hitting-attack was powered by Kip Selbach (1 for 3, Double, Run, RBI, Walk), Pasty Donovan (2 for 4, RBI), and Jimmy Barret (1 for 3, Run, RBI, Walk, Stolen Base). For the Americans, Homer Smoot (3 for 5, 2 Doubles, 2 Runs, Stolen Base) and Jesse Hoffmeister (2 for 4, Triple) had a solid day at the plate. With only 2 games left in the regular season schedule, I anticipate shuffling up the lineup to give spot starts to my call-ups, as well as give Tannehill another shot at getting his 20th win of the season. Player of the Game: Weldon Henley

An outstanding night at the plate for Detroit Tigers 1st-baseman Charlie Hickman. Nicknamed "Piano Legs", Hickman put together a 5 for 5 game that resulted in a Triple, Homerun, 4 Runs, 4 RBIs, and a Stolen Base. His 101 batting Game Performance score ranks 2nd for the 1903 season.

Game 139: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
As rumors continue to swirl regarding the team's direction for next season, this might have been the last start of Cy Young with the team (perhaps career...). If this was it, Young should be proud of his efforts as he led the Boston Americans (73-66) to a St. Louis Browns (62-77) to a 4 to 3 victory.
In picking up the win, Young (13-17) allowed 3 earned runs on 10 hits to finish with a Game Score of 56. Tom Hughes (11-22) was tagged with the loss after permitting 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings of play; Game Score 46. Frank Owen covered the final inning of scoreless play. At the plate, Jesse Hoffmeister (2 for 4, Homerun, Run, RBI), Frank Chance (2 for 4, Double, 2 RBI), and Fred Clarke (2 for 5, RBI) played well for the Americans. For the Browns, Ed Phelps (2 for 4, Double, Run, RBI), Patsy Donovan (2 for 4, Run), and Charlie Babb (2 for 4, RBI) made solid contact in the loss. Player of the Game: Cy Young (Season: #11 / Career: #43)

An unlikely recipient for the American League Pitcher of the Month award, Bill Dinneen posted a 6-1 record with a 1.83 ERA that was good for 0.9 WAR and 1.7 WPA.

With 1 game left in the 1903 regular season, the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Beaneaters are tied with a 79-60 record. Who will represent the NL in the playoffs...?

Game 140: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have tried to force the issue. I had hopes of getting Jesse Tannehill his 20th victory of the season, and took steps over the last few weeks to shift rotation around in an attempt to provide the proper setting. In the end, Tannehill ended the season on a multi-game losing streak and falling short of the 20-win mark. In today's game, the St. Louis Browns (63-77) topped the Boston Americans (73-67) by a 7 to 3 score. Hate to see the team end the season on a down note.
Bill Dinneen (9-11) picked up the win by limiting the opposition to 3 earned runs on 8 hits, wild pitch, and hit batsman while striking out 5; Game Score 64. Jesse Tannehill (19-16) lasted 6 2/3 innings of play in which he allowed 7 earned runs on 11 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 24. Bert Husting covered the final 1 1/3 innings of scoreless play. The big-hitters for the Browns were Patsy Donovan (3 for 4, 2 Doubles, 4 RBIs), Charlie Babb (2 for 5, Stolen Base), and George Magoon (0-2, 2 Runs, 2 Walks). Jiggs Donahue (2 for 4, Double, 2 Runs) and John Farrell (2 for 4, RBI) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Bill Dinneen
