Cards news: May 11 -- Shoulder injury puts Hence on injured list; Ridings called up from AAA
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed right-handed starting pitcher Tink Hence on the 60-day injured list after he left their 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on May 8 with a shoulder injury.
The 23-year-old Hence is expected to be out for up to five months. In seven starts this season, Hence had gone 2-3 with a 3.86 ERA. Replacing him on the Cardinals roster will be 30-year-old right-handed reliever. Ridings spent the 2025 season in St. Louis, but failed to make the major-league roster for this season. In six games at AAA this season, Ridings has gone 3-2 with a 1.76 ERA. Cristian Javier, who started the season in the bullpen, will take Hence's spot in the St. Louis' starting rotation. Javier, 29, has made eight appearances in relief going 1-0 with one save and a 4.32 ERA. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed outfielder Eloy Jimenez to a minor-league contract. He has been assigned to AAA Memphis.
Jimenez, 29, spent the 2025 season with the Chicago White Sox where he hit .231 with 22 home runs and 68 RBIs in 147 games. It is expected he could replace Hunter Renfroe on the major-league roster if he continues to struggle. Renfroe, 34, has hit just .077 with home run an RBI in eight games. |

Cards news: May 25 -- OF Hunter Renfroe sent to Baltimore for 1B Brent Rooker
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired minor-league first baseman Brent Rooker from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for veteran outfielder Hunter Renfroe.
Rooker, 31, has played this season at AAA Norfolk where he has hit .293 with 20 home runs and 42 RBIs. He has played a variety of games in the majors with five teams. During that span, he has hit .218 with 48 home runs and 122 RBIs in 316 games/271 starts. Signed to be a right-handed bat off the bench, Renfroe, 34, produced little oi his time in St. Louis. He played in 10 games/starters and hit .056 with one home run and the RBI it earned him. For his career, he broke into the majors in 2016 with San Diego, Renfroe is a .237 hitter with 195 home runs and 538 RBIs. It is expected Rooker will be assigned to AAA Memphis. Eloy Jimenez, who the Cardinals recently signed, will be called to the majors. |
