Due to the volume of player image posts on this thread, some frequent posters have created additional threads to help reduce the traffic on the player image thread. Wherever possible, let's try to group posts in the appropriate threads. As far as I know there are threads available for:

Players (this thread)
Managers
Coaches
Umpires
Negro League / Japanese League (***)
Image requests
Image cleanup requests

I have added links to each of these threads in my signature for convenience.

I can't speak to CC licensing, as that would have to be determined on a case-by-case basis, but here is an extremely detailed look at how to determine if works have passed into the public domain.

Generally speaking, I would advise against using any image in this or other photo threads in published works.

Caribeño may have more, like the Pirates image he already posted, but here are a couple of other little ones: 1981 Buffalo Bisons, 1988 Chattanooga Lookouts and ca. 1989 California Angles, probably a spring training pic.
