Backing up is crucial. I lost a great league because I was lazy.

I now back up after every day's games on an external hard drive.

If my computer goes out or the game crashes, I will be able to reload the game and only miss a few games, rather than losing the entire league.

Spearheading the Viper win were a bevy of batters with CF Jan Szymanski (.273) leading the charge with three RBIs and a trio with two RBIs each that included LF Jet Kazmarek (.364), 1B Masaichi Okawa (.304) and 3B Zoran Belakov (.174). Far Mountain couldn't compete with them today. Redhawk RF Karl Dietz (.211) got the only homer in the game, but it didn't matter to the Vipers. They ran up a 5-1 lead after three innings and increased it to 9-3 in the sixth. Winning pitcher Zoran Zalewski (2-0 4.32), revved up by such huge bat support, cruised through for the win. He allowed four runs and seven hits and worked into the ninth before being lifted for Eddie Dorn, who got the final three outs. Dependable Sonny Elliott, a 19-game winner during the regular season, didn't have it today as the Vipers tagged him for five runs and six hits in less than three innings for the loss.

Valmara will tangle with the Elnora All-Stars tomorrow in Elnora. Valmara will open on the road, but will have the home field advantage if the Elite 8 series should go to three games.

Ruthlandian Union South Division Sweet 16 Series - Game Three

Crusaders Maul Sunbirds 10-2, Take Series
At Cathedral Stadium in St. John, the Crusaders broke open a 3-2 game with three runs in the fifth and went on to maul Belair Beach 10-2 in an RU South Sweet 16 elimination game. Racking up 13 hits, everybody in the line-up got at least one hit except one, paced by CF Jorge Mercado (.222) with 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Mercado homered and tripled. Manager Dickie Billings got an excellent outing from Zach Simon (2-0 1.59), who shackled the Sunbirds on four hits and did not allow an earned run. Simon, 19-17 in the regular season, issued four walks and fanned three batters. Slim Mosley, the tallest player in the IPA at 6'10", had a terrible game as the Crusaders slammed him for six runs and six hits in four-plus innings. Mosley (0-1 3.00) is coming off a great season with a 21-11 mark. In his only postseason start he went seven innings in a no decision and gave up only one unearned run. Belair Beach played lousy defense with four miscues in the game.

St. John will now challenge the Middlefield Roosters in the IPA Elite 8 Series, which will get underway tomorrow at the Roosters home park.

Tycobbian Union South Division Sweet 16 Series - Game Three

Turon Trounces SA 13-0, Wins Sweet 16 Series
In a remarkable turn of events, the Turon Typhoons trounced the San Alejo Montaneros 13-0 on Scotty Boswell's two-hit shutout. Not only was Boswell unhittable, the Typhoons hit everything in sight and out of sight to stun San Alejo in the third game of their TU South Sweet 16 Series. They totaled 17 hits with everybody in the line-up getting at least one. With the startling win Turon put an end to the Montaneros season and will now advance to the IPA Elite 8 against the Bayview Vikings. Boswell (2-0 1.69), who was only 15-16 during the season, chalked up seven strikeouts, while walking seven in his route-going masterpiece. The Typhoons came back and won the last two games of the series, both at the Casa de Beisbol, San Alejo's home field. There were many other heroes today as C Trace Crittenden (.333), RF George Farley (.227) and 3B Ernie Fletcher (.348) all batted in three runs to lead the Typhoons to the victory. Crittenden went 5-6 with a home run and Farley also went deep. 2B Ronnie Mikkelsen collected two hits, two walks, scored four times and had an RBI. San Alejo hung close and only trailed 3-0 after six innings, but Turon exploded in the late innings against the Montanero bullpen. They beat 22-game winner Alfredo Herrera (1-1 2.40), who gave up three runs on eight hits in six innings.

There is no rest for the weary as Turon will open its Elite 8 Series at home tomorrow afternoon against Bayview. It will be a best-of-three affair.
