I will be tuned in!
Skubal v. Tampa. Jobe replaces Miller in the pen (Miller DFA'd). I haven't been this excited this late in the season in a long, long time.

Blink and you missed a crisply pitched 2-1 Tigers W. Tigers fans probably hope they don't have to waste what Skubal brings to the table against the Blight Sox on Sunday.

Erie won the Eastern League last night. We may see a bit of Hao-Yu Lee or Gage Workman next year.

Jackson Jobe with a scoreless ninth. Red Sox eliminated. Mariners on the brink. Twins going to extras…
I haven’t been this excited in September in a long, long time!

No help from Miami or Washington tonight. Great win tonight but still not out of the woods yet.

I'm honestly super concerned about the tiebreaking scenarios. Baltimore will have nothing to really play for when they go to Minnesota for the last series of the season. They are going to take care of themselves and get their rotation in order and not really care if they drop the series, especially if it eliminates the hottest team in the AL. On the flip the white Sox have even less to play for and the Tigers should steamroll them but they are a rival and what better way to end their miserable season by playing a factor in the race. A sweep today would just be huge. Go Tigers.
Speaking of tie breakers I don't get them. Like I completely understand how they work but tiebreaker games are some of the most exciting in baseball. I'm surprised the league (that really likes money) did away with them? Probably because by adding all these playoff teams they know it would become a yearly issue. But IS it an issue or a great way to kick off playoff season? |

Moving from the traditional game 163 tie-breaker to this system was a huge mistake. You play for 6 months and 162 games in baseball, any tie-breaker that isn't on the field is absurd.
I think that I have this correct: Had the Red Sox and Twins tied: - Tie-breaker 1 = split series, move to next tie-breaker - Tie-breaker 2 = record against divisional opponents - Twins win That they play in different divisions and the Twins' division included the historically bad White Sox makes no difference. I wish that scenario had played out in real life so the absurdity of taking away game 163 would have caused an appropriate uproar. One of the worst rule changes in recent years.

A magic number of 2 and a whole weekend with the Blight Sox coming up.
There's not a lot of bad things that can happen from there, but the few bad things that *are* possible to happen are pretty grim ![]()

As a long-suffering Mets fan I would very much approve of the Tigers sweeping the Blight Sox.
