Speaking of balance, this has been one of those super busy weeks for me. Usually the American Thanksgiving week is my highest-stress week for meeting deadlines. Now I have changed some of my job responsibilities, meaning I am wearing more hats. However, one great decision I made was to drop my second and third jobs, one of which included my personal business. I will have to push *some* of my responsibilities into Thanksgiving week. Usually that means 12-hour days every day but Thanksgiving day. This year, I am hoping I will work at most 3-6 hours that week, instead of 70. Therefore, I hope to push this dynasty hard that week. ![]() Today, I won't meet a deadline, so I will just let it be water off the goose's bill. Hey, I didn't update Sunday, March 22, 2298, yet. I am here to take a break from work anyway, so let's get it started! ![]()

Oooh! One thing I want to add as a reminder to myself. I am planning to revisit some of the settlements again, especially now that I am populating them more as the story builds. That will force me to go through my dynasty and see what names of people and places I included that are not currently in my Excel sheet. I am fleshing out more of the universe, so I want to be consistent and not have to go back in time to edit mistakes in the narrative.
I know some people that I may need to revisit: names of mayors of settlements. Some places include the restaurant in Nordhagen Beach. I am sure there are many more, so I will do that soon enough so that there can be more added to some of the "incident" random events. There was an incident reported on Saturday where I gave the place where Salem was staying a name. That's something I need to add to my spreadsheet. And, as a preview, that incident had a follow-up roll, reported at the end of Sunday's games review.

May 2298 - News and Notes - May 22
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 22 May 2298 - Assaultrons Rock Bloodbugs, 14-1 The Easy Town Assaultrons stopped the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 14-1, at Easy Town Field. The Assaultrons got a big game from Dan Squirrel, who was 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. David Hill, credited with the win, is now 5-3. He allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 9 innings. The win for the Assaultrons lifted their record to 21-14. In the top of the seventh, Slim Chembaker stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Bloodbugs were trailing 11-1, but had the bases loaded. That's when David Hill made a terrific pitch and Chembaker grounded out. Gone was the dream of a County Crossing comeback. 22 May 2298 - Atom Decked by Rose, Hancocks The Goodneighbor Hancocks knocked off the Atom Cats, 8-2, at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. John Rose was a big reason Goodneighbor won. The center fielder hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Bill Little, the winning pitcher, improved to 8-0. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 9 and walking 4. With the win, Goodneighbor upped its record to 25-9. With Goodneighbor leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Rose hit a cutter from Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope for a 3-run home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Hancocks ahead, 6-1. "We played hard and won," said Rose. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy." 22 May 2298 - Slingshot Slugs T-51s to 8th Straight Win Oberland first baseman Curtis Slingshot contributed to his team's 5-1 win over the Vault 81 Dwellers. Slingshot, who is tied for 6th in the SCA in runs scored with 33, went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the T-51s. Matt Udder got the win, improving to 7-1. He worked 8 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. With the victory, the T-51s upped their record to 30-5. The Dwellers have now dropped nine straight. It could have been a different outcome for Oberland, had it not been for Jonathan Abern, the 20-year old second baseman . Abern contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put Oberland up, 2-0. "I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Slingshot. "And not try to do too much." 22 May 2298 - Extra-Inning Win by Radstags Over Adamantium Austin Engill had a good game, but he could not keep the Abernathy Adamantium from falling in 10 innings, 7-6, to the Concord Radstags at Nuka Park. The Abernathy shortstop was 3-5 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 in the loss. Abernathy has now lost 4 straight. The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the tenth, with Concord trailing 6-5, Jordan Hash hit a fastball from Jason Worry for a 2-run home run, giving the Radstags the walk-off win. "It's nice to come out on top today," said Hash. 22 May 2298 - Higinbotham, Lady Killers Clobber Silver Shroud, 10-2 No one was more impactful than Glenn Higinbotham in the 10-2 Starlight win over Fort Hagen, avoiding a sweep and keeping the Silver Shroud out of a first-place tie in the Institute League. Higinbotham, who is tied for 2nd in the NCA in stolen bases with 9, went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Justin Sphinx earned the win for Starlight. He lasted 7.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 3-1. The Lady Killers saw their record improve to 16-19. Skinny Danner hit a grand slam home run off All Day Acosta in the top of the first, which put the Lady Killers ahead, 4-0. In addition to the homer, Danner had 1 single and 1 double, while going 3 for 4. "We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Danner said. 22 May 2298 - Party Boys Upend Ghouls, 5-1 The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys went home winners at Tarberry Field Forever, thanks in large part to starter Julian Shed. Shed stifled the The Slog Ghouls, enabling Nordhagen Beach to grab the 5-1 win. Night Demon Archacki earned the save for Nordhagen Beach, his 9th of the year. Nordhagen Beach raised its record to 23-12 with the win. Nordhagen Beach used a timely hit from Tommy Talkington to get the win. The third baseman delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the Party Boys on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer. "I felt we were ready to go," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. "Our pregame was pretty good." 22 May 2298 - Salem Trades Schmidt for FHE's Brahmin Fans in Salem woke up this morning to learn that their team had traded 26-year-old 3B Pistol Schmidt to the FHE Yao Guai. In return, the Witch Hats will receive 29-year-old 3B Ian Brahmin, 19-year-old minor league 3B Hawk Callaway, and a 3rd round draft pick. This year Schmidt has hit at a .261 pace and produced 19 RBIs, 8 home runs and scored 17 runs. While he has been one of Salem's better hitters, a Friday night incident indicates that the team's relationship with Schmidt was on the rocks. So far this year in 6 games Brahmin is hitting .200 with no home runs, 0 RBIs and no runs scored. He is expected to take over Schmidt's starting role at third base with the Witch Hats. Also, he has good leadership skills and is intelligent on and off the field. Despite not playing much in FHE, he was considered popular in the clubhouse, something Salem desperately needs. Responding to the news that he would be joining the Yao Guai, who are struggling just like the Witch Hats, Schmidt said, "Thank Atom!" He had no other comments. Salem did not respond to further questions about the incident and whether or not it related to the trade. However, center fielder Mike Castillo and starting pitcher Terrence Artman appeared in good spirits following the news. Neither commented upon our request.

The 20-year-old Easy Town Assaultrons right fielder hit at a torrid .632 clip as he collected 12 hits in 19 at-bats, 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and 5 runs scored. This season Squirrel has hit at a .395 clip and produced 38 runs batted in, 7 home runs and 32 runs. 23 May 2298 - Great Week for Diamond City's Wayne Lacy Wayne Lacy has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 19-year-old right fielder of the Diamond City Swatters had a hot bat in the South Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Lacy batted .545 with 12 hits in 22 at-bats, 5 home runs and 10 RBIs. Lacy is hitting .338 this year with 11 home runs, 38 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He has 49 hits in 145 at-bats, 16 walks and a .409 on-base percentage. Lacy has played in 35 games.

2298 Week 7 - The Week in Review
Analysis
After seven weeks of the 2298 season, there are three tiers that look to be the top teams competing for a title, teams that could be there depending on how they do in the next third of the season, and then some also-rans. We are going to approach our weekly look with a different feature, "Contenders, Pretenders, and Offenders." These are based on the Weekly Team Power Rankings. Contenders 1) Oberland T-51s (168.3, o) - The best team in the league. There is no reason to believe they will not defend their 2297 title. Oberland is not allowing anyone to score on them, and they do what needs to be done on offense to keep the pressure on teams. 2) Goodneighbor Hancocks (139.4, o) - The second-best team benefitting by an overall week association. The Hancocks are a great offensive team, near the top of everything in the SCA except home runs. Their pitching is also good, with the benefit of having the best fourth starter in the CBO in Bill Little (8-0, 3.99). A Little pitching day is typically a victory. 3) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (121.3, o) - Showing 2297 was not a fluke. Has become one of the top balanced teams in the CBO. A tough game every game. Easy Town is close, but we feel that the Party Boys are going to pull away at some point and win the Brotherhood League easily. Maybe not as easily as Oberland will win its league, but easily. 4) University Point Deathclaws (111.0, +) - Good team but needs to be much better on offense to challenge the T-51s and Hancocks. 5) Easy Town Assaultrons (109.0, o) - Benefitting from close victories. Here because they are winning two out of three but the most likely to fall out of this category. 6) Quincy Gunners (102.9, +) - Seems like they should be challenging Goodneighbor for the league title, but not getting the breaks. An improvement in pitching puts them in Oberland territory. 7) Abernathy Adamantium (96.9, --) - Fool's gold? They do not seem to be a head above Fort Hagen, but they are. Just a few players are keeping this team as a winning one. Something tells us that the Institute League will come down to the final weekend for both the league title and the playoffs wildcard spot. 8) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (96.7, o) - Struggling as of late, but they seem to be a team that will return to the playoffs. They are in the middle in runs scored and runs allowed, which seems to indicate they will be closer to a .500 team over the course of the season. That could become a problem if Abernathy remains strong and Concord and Lexington turn their tides. Pretenders 9) Diamond City Swatters (95.4, ++) - This team keeps swinging up and down but currently holds second place in the Railroad League, thus would qualify for a playoff position if the playoffs were now. At their consistency, they would be swept in the first round by Oberland. 10) Concord Radstags (89.3, ++) - How does a 16-19 team tied for last place in the Institute League get here? Underperformance! This team is among the most talented offensively in the CBO and ace Chris Radsco should be back in June. Abernathy and Fort Hagen had better watch out. 11) Warwick Mirelurks (86.7, ++) - This team seems to be on a downward spiral in the Minutemen League compared to the 2296 and 2297 seasons, but they seem to be picking up momentum heading into the next third of the season. 12) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (86.4, -) - This team is perpetually .500 (30-30 in 2296 and 2297, 17-18 in 2298). They could pick up the pace but likely fourth at best in the IL. 13) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (85.3, -) - They may be tied for fourth in the ML, but the Red Rockets seem to get closer and closer to significance every day. This year is probably not their year, but they will start breaking hearts sooner rather than later. 14) Lexington Synths (85.3, -) - This year's version of the 2297 IL champions is confusing. Though the team is mostly intact and its pitching is pitching well (2nd in NCA in runs allowed), they just are not winning games. Maybe they will pick up that scaled balance Easy Town currently possesses and start moving up, but can they do enough to pass up Abernathy, Fort Hagen, and Concord? 15) Starlight Lady Killers (85.3, ++) - The Lady Killers had a killer dive to mediocrity last season but seem to be more balanced this season. Still, they are going to fight and still finish 5th or 6th in the IL. 16) County Crossing Bloodbugs (83.3, o) - County Crossing needs to outscore their opponents rather than play great baseball. Their pitching staff is not bad, just not pitching well. Their best hope is for the pitching to do better, and then they will see more wins than losses. That could benefit the Bloodbugs if Easy Town does start to fade. Offenders 17) The Slog Ghouls (79.3, ++) - The 2296 champions are looking like they will be sellers around the All Star break. Though there are really good players on the team, like Millioncap Go and Lernz Tentsleep, the rest of the lineup is mostly below average. The pitching staff excites no one, even if they are 4th in the NCA in runs allowed. 18) Egret Ninjas (78.3, --) - This team loves the bomb, but they bomb in the wins category. Even with the really good Phlip Wallace, this team is just not playing well overall. While they could win the wildcard spot, we would expect Diamond City to edge them in a truly weak Railroad League. 19) Finch Farm Four Leafs (77.1, +) - This team went from first to almost worst in the 2296 and 2297 seasons. This season seems to be an exercise in hitting home runs and nothing else. Finch Farm leads the CBO in home runs (56) but they are not good in any other category. We expect them to be sellers within the next month or two. 20) Salem Witch Hats (69.1, --) - This team is in disarray and may find themselves at #24 in the Power Rankings at some point. They traded away their best player yesterday, and we would not be surprised to see more guys moved to help this team find some leadership and locker room peacefulness. The bats have been terrible. 21) FHE Yao Guai (68.9, +) - After their run to the playoffs last season, we thought the Yao Guai were here to stay. This season has been an exercise in poor all-around play. Hose Wallcralwer is awesome. Otherwise, it is hard to point out where they are good. 22) Vault 81 Dwellers (65.3, --) - A nine-game losing streak is the reason we see Vault 81 here. They could and probably will challenge for the wildcard spot in the RL. However, they are just not playing well as of late and barely showed up against Oberland this past weekend. Jason Personhood may still not be the manager the team needs to find its success. 23) Atom Cats (39.4, -) - After a wildcard spot in 2296, Atom seemed to be a competitive team, but they have not looked that way at all in 2297 and 2298. There are some questions about the management's ability to recognize good baseball talent with some noted non-moves in potential trades that could have helped them. Commissioner Howard probably needs to intervene and get this team to sell off middle talent for a few good prospects. 24) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (38.3, o) - With the change in team name from Shaw HS to the Rox, we expected this team to continue making progress. Instead, they have responded by being the absolutely worst team in the CBO. The Punchers have no punch. They cannot score and they cannot stop teams from scoring. They need to sell and sell and sell and make this a team of 18-year-olds ready to grow together.

The View from the BMU
Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kawolski 24 May 2298 – Bunker Hill On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our eleventh trip around the BMU, we will go to a symbol of pre-USA Boston, Bunker Hill. The Ancient Times According to a terminal, "During the American Revolution, the area was the site of a battle between General Israel Putnam of the Colonial Army and his British counterpart, General William Howe. Though it was primarily fought on nearby Breed's Hill, the Battle of Bunker Hill received its name from the primary British objective, which they ultimately took. While the Colonial forces were defeated, the battle was a pyrrhic victory for the British Army, convincing them to avoid further engagements during the Siege of Boston." The Dawn of Nate Howard - 2288 The terminal goes on to read, "After the Great War, the memorial to the fallen soldiers still stands, though caravan traders have made their home here. In the past, the Minutemen protected the settlement from the dangers of the Commonwealth, but after failing to answer a call during a raider attack, the Minutemen are no longer held in high esteem in the settlement, and they rely mostly on mercenary protection against things that cannot be bought, such as super mutants. "The Railroad has a base underneath the complex, where they prepare synths for extradition from the Commonwealth. During their purge of the Railroad, the Institute attacks this complex, and it is unknown what the outcome of the battle is." Bunker Hill Today - 2298 Bunker Hill is still a central trading location for caravaneers around the Commonwealth, though the names of the shops and shop owners have changed over time. Most of the original caravaneers hold premier businesses throughout the Wasteland, including some team owners in the CBO. There has been a lot of expansion to the settlement due to neighborhood cleanup projects. While many of the buildings, including the famous Bunker Hill monument, are still in ruins, more of the settlement has expanded, including a cleared out park area where the Bunker Hill Gun Fu play. Bunker Hill Tomorrow - 2350 With hopes that the vegetation will grow, the future looks to make Bunker Hill one of the tourist spots of the Commonwealth. The author's depiction above shows a Bunker Hill with plenty of green to make it a perfect combination of nature and manmade brilliance. The holes in the monument were kept for the "look."

May 2298 - News and Notes - May 24
Stories galore and I finally discovered/began fixing a major error in my dynasty. How boneheaded of me!
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 24 May 2298 - Raybathers Topple Gun Fu with Late Rally The Mystic Pines Raybathers overcame a fine performance by Bunker Hill left fielder Ben Hawkins to defeat the Gun Fu, 6-3, at Wicked Shipping Field. Hawkins was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Mystic Pines reliever Chad Hartwig picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Eric Sleeping was saddled with the loss. Burn Rivera finished the game for Mystic Pines and earned his 4th save. It could have been a different outcome for Mystic Pines, had it not been for Brett Commies, the 17-year old second baseman . Commies contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Mystic Pines up, 4-3. "If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Commies. "I just want to win ballgames." With this game in the books, Mystic Pines is 12-14, Bunker Hill 14-12. 24 May 2298 - Bleeder Slugs Night People to 10-1 Win Melvin Bleeder made an impact in the 10-1 Greentop Nursery win over Malden. Bleeder, who is tied for 6th in the CA with a 1.027 OPS, was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5. The win puts Greentop Nursery at 18-8 this season. With Greentop Nursery leading 6-1 in the top of the eighth, Bleeder came up to bat against Malden pitcher Violin Barndt. Bleeder hit a fastball to left-center for a grand slam home run. His 5th home run of the season put the Night People on top, 10-1. "Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Bleeder told the Greentop Nursery Daily News. 24 May 2298 - Malone Whitewashes Swatters The University Point Deathclaws did little to support starter Quentin Malone against the Diamond City Swatters, but it turned out he didn't need the help. The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Swatters, striking out 3 and surrendering 4 hits. The performance from Malone allowed University Point to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense. "Nobody came to me and said 'Quentin, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Malone told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it." This season Malone has compiled a 5-4 mark with a 3.82 ERA. 24 May 2298 - Hits Galore: McIntyre Drills 5 Hits Concord Radstags second baseman Josh McIntyre went 5-for-5 today and paced Concord to a 13-12 victory over the County Crossing Bloodbugs at Beantown Brewery Stadium. "Well, that was fun," McIntyre said following the game. Josh McIntyre singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, walked in the 7th, tripled in the 8th and hit a two-run double in the 10th. Presently McIntyre is hitting .275 with 5 home runs and 23 RBIs. He has played in 36 games and scored 21 times. 24 May 2298 - Mastodon Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games Tom Mastodon's consecutive-game hitting streak has now climbed to 20 games. The County Crossing left fielder smacked 2 hits against the Concord Radstags in today's game at Beantown Brewery Stadium, but he expressed mixed emotions about the streak after watching the Bloodbugs drop the game, 13-12. "I feel good about the streak, but don't feel good when we lose," he told reporters. "I'd love to get a hit as well as a win next time so I can celebrate properly." Tom Mastodon grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th. Presently Mastodon is batting .366 with 59 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 14 runs and scored 22 times. 24 May 2298 - Waples Sizzles with 20-Game Batting Streak The streak is alive and well -- at least for today. Jim Waples did it again, bashing 3 hits in the contest at Tato Field today. For the last 20 games in a row, the 20-year-old second baseman has collected at least one hit. His efforts helped the Abernathy Adamantium beat the Salem Witch Hats 16-6 today. "I'm happy I kept the streak going," Waples told a standing-room-only crowd of reporters gathered in the Abernathy clubhouse. "Honestly though, I'm looking forward to going home and not thinking about this for the rest of the day." Jim Waples tripled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th. Waples is hitting .347 so far this season with 15 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 59 hits including 1 home run, 5 walks and .366 OBP. 24 May 2298 - Cornseed Slugs 2 Home Runs, Red Rockets Beat Dwellers, 15-5 The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets bested the Vault 81 Dwellers by a score of 15-5, with left fielder Carney Cornseed getting the main credit. On the day, Cornseed was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a triple, while scoring 3 times and driving in 6 for the Red Rockets. Vault 81 has now lost 10 straight. David Seaweed had a key at-bat with one out in the bottom of the second for Jamaica Plain. With the bases loaded and the Red Rockets leading 3-2, he hit a sacrifice fly. "We've hit a rough patch right now," said Vault 81 skipper Jason Personhood. 24 May 2298 - Tentsleep Hits 2 home runs in Ghouls Win The The Slog Ghouls downed the Lexington Synths, 15-6. The hitting star was shortstop Lernz Tentsleep. Tentsleep was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 4 times and driving in 4 for the Ghouls. The Ghouls' win now puts them at 17-19. Stoop Bugwing, the The Slog third baseman, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 8-6, Ghouls. For the game, Bugwing was 2 for 5 with a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. "The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Mack O'Shea said. 24 May 2298 - Schmidt Helps FHE Cruise to 11-2 Win in His Debut FHE and Quincy got after it at The Stone House. A good performance from third baseman Pistol Schmidt helped the FHE Yao Guai defeat the Quincy Gunners, 11-2. Schmidt was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 4 for the Yao Guai. FHE has now won 3 straight, while the Gunners have lost 3 in a row. Schmidt had a key at-bat for FHE early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and gave FHE an early 2-0 lead. The Yao Guai obtained Schmidt in a trade on Sunday. "We did more than enough to get the win," said Schmidt. "I don't want to say too much, but it was great to be with a team that gets it." 24 May 2298 - Silver Shroud Deal Party Boys 10-2 Defeat Fort Hagen left-hander Derek Green pitched his team to victory over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The final score was 10-2. With the win, Fort Hagen pushed its record to 20-16. Fort Hagen used the timely hitting of Safety Langer to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Silver Shroud on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer. "We played a good game and came out on top," said Langer. Casey Diehl suffered his first loss on the season (5-1, 4.70 ERA) in his worst start. Taboo Richardson and Brian Masterson each homered for the Party Boys.

May 2298 - News and Notes - May 25
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 25 May 2298 - Ackerman Vows to Be Team Leader Salem Witch Hats backup 1B/C Dan Ackerman said that he wanted to step up to help his team. Not considered the most selfless of players, Ackerman's announcement seemed to satisfy the Salem front office. Ackerman arrived in Salem last December in a trade with University Point. Originally the 8th round pick by the Deathclaws in the 2296 Inaugural Draft, Ackerman never found his way as a full-time player, though he does have 58 starts in 117 appearances. Ackerman is considered to be both a 1B and a catcher, but he has only appeared defensively at 1B in his career. "I am new to the team," Ackerman said this morning following batting practice at Tato Field at Abernathy Farm, "but it doesn't mean I have to sit back and let this team fall apart. I don't know if I am a natural leader or anything, but I know I work hard every day and I want that to be the way my teammates see me. We just need some hope right now, so I volunteer to step up and be that hope." Salem has been in the news lately following a closed-door incident that the team has refused to speak about on record. Rumors have swirled that several players on the team have been a cancer to team unity, causing the entire team to feel uncomfortable around each other. Ackerman decided that wasn't OK with him. Witch Hats manager Chase Stingwing had refused to speak to reporters since the weekend incident, but he did allow a few words today. "If Ack is going to take a leadership role, we'll welcome him to it," Stingwing said. Stingwing is known to be an emotional manager who gloats when he wins and pouts when he loses. Players have seemed to pick up on that emotion with some players buying into Stingwing's system while others have been miserable because of it. Reportedly that misery led to the best Witch Hats' player, Pistol Schmidt needing to be dealt to FHE on Sunday. 25 May 2298 - Raybathers Drop Gun Fu, 7-3 The Mystic Pines Raybathers beat the Bunker Hill Gun Fu, 7-3. Mystic Pines pitcher and Lexington, Massachusetts, native Chad Sweet led the way. Sweet got the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed 7 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Sweet allowed 2 runs. The loss makes Bunker Hill 14-13. Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Brett Commies? The Mystic Pines second baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Raybathers on top, 5-1. For the game, Commies had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats. "We take it day by day here," said Sweet, "and today was a good one for us." 25 May 2298 - Rayguns Win Thriller, 6-5 Trinity Plaza third baseman Paul Middle had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Middle hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2, even as Cabot House beat the Snipers, 6-5. George Agee got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. The victory puts Cabot House at 11-16. Ryan Stephenson was the walk-off hero for Cabot House. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rayguns pinch hitter hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home. "This place was rocking at the end," Stephenson said. 25 May 2298 - 5-Hit Blitz by Arch A jubilant Noah Arch joined the postgame press conference at The Stone House today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Quincy Gunners pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the FHE Yao Guai center fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led the Yao Guai to a 9-8 win. "He made it look easy," said Kevin Banner, manager of the Gunners. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Noah Arch grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 10th. This year Arch has 4 home runs and a .355 batting average. 25 May 2298 - Beach Now 7-1 After Subduing Silver Shroud Nordhagen Beach got a strong outing from Tommy Beach as the Party Boys defeated the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 5-0, at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The win gives Nordhagen Beach a season record of 24-13. Beach made it look easy. He scattered 4 hits over 8.2 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. The right-hander upped his season record to 7-1. Beach was chased in the top of the 9th when he allowed a single to Jim Tiller. Noodle Green pitched one pitch, a Sam Noob flyout, to end the game. Beach told a Nordhagen Beach News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win. "It was a good win, but I was just worn out. I told Bay [pitching coach Trevor Bayless] I couldn't go anymore. Don't blame Coach Craig [Robinson] for pulling me." 25 May 2298 - Deathclaws Roll to 16-3 Win Over Swatters The University Point Deathclaws topped the Diamond City Swatters, 16-3, in South Charles Association action at The Great Green Jewel. The standout performance belonged to University Point pitcher and Littleton, Massachusetts, native William Radwater. Radwater, now 4-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 4, and allowing 3 runs. With the win, University Point upped its record to 23-14. University Point used the bat of Kory Richardson to get the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Deathclaws ahead, 5-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage. "We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said University Point skipper Woody Lumpkin.

May 2298 - News and Notes - May 26
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 26 May 2298 - BMU Day: Garbageman Extends Hit Streak to 25 Games Steve Garbageman has been ripping hits every day for a while now, and nobody seems able to stop him. The Outpost Zimonja left fielder picked up 3 more today against the Breakheart Banks Behemoths and now has a 25-game hitting streak. The Strongbacks won the game 6-3. "Definitely somebody's going to stop me at some point," he said later, chuckling. "I'll enjoy it for the time being." Steve Garbageman walked in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th and hit a two-run single in the 8th. So far this season Garbageman has gotten 52 hits in 121 at-bats for a .430 batting average with 3 home runs. His stats include 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has played in 28 games. 26 May 2298 - Kilgore Has 20-Game Hitting Streak The Somerville Place Sentry Bots stopped the Fiddler's Green T-60s today 10-9 and Kurt Kilgore collected a base hit yet again. The Somerville Place center fielder finished with 2 hits to run his consecutive-game hitting streak to 20. "I want to get a hit every time up," a visibly excited Kilgore told reporters after the contest. "I want to get a hit every game I play. Right now, I feel like I could take this streak to 100 games." Kurt Kilgore grounded out in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, struck out in the 6th and hit a two-run single in the 7th. Kilgore is presently hitting at a .379 pace with 3 home runs and 34 RBIs. He has played in 28 games and scored 20 times. 26 May 2298 - Raybathers Come Up Short at Bunker Hill, 3-2 The Bunker Hill Gun Fu had to overcome a fine effort from Mystic Pines pitcher Mark Gearhead to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Wicked Shipping Field. Gearhead went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Picking up the save was Ruther Fraud, his 6th. With the victory, the Gun Fu upped their record to 15-13. In the bottom of the third, Mike Carrasco hit a 2-run triple. The 1st triple of the season for the Bunker Hill right fielder put the Gun Fu on top, 3-1. "We made a couple of mistakes," said Mystic Pines skipper Justin Chops, "and it cost us." 26 May 2298 - Big Leaguers, Uglyhair Blast Aquaboys, 10-2 The Natick Banks Big Leaguers beat the Eastlake Aquaboys, 10-2, at Poseidon Park. Jim Uglyhair, in particular, was impressive. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 7 RBI and scoring twice. Picking up the win was Jason Haynes. He went 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The right--hander struck out 7 and walked 3. Ron Jenkins, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save. With Natick Banks leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Uglyhair hit a knuckle curve from Robbie League for a grand slam home run. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Big Leaguers ahead, 5-0. "Today was a lot of fun," said Uglyhair. Natick Banks raised its record to 19-9 with the win. 26 May 2298 - Flamers Top Nerd Ragers in Extras, 5-2 Riding the 4-hit performance of the 20-year old right fielder Bat Savelli, the Corvega Flamers stopped the College Square Nerd Ragers, 5-2. Reliever Mike Koenig picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Wobbly Warren took the loss. Rafe Sauce got the save, the 1st for him this season. Savelli had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a first pitch curveball from Wobbly Warren, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Flamers a 5-2 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Savelli. "Good win for us, tough loss for them," said Savelli. The win puts Corvega at 16-12 this season.

May 2298 - News and Notes - May 27
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 27 May 2298 - Sunshine Tidings-Fort Hagen Trade: Grog for Frank Reports have surfaced that Sunshine Tidings has agreed to send 26-year-old minor league C Paul Grog to the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud in exchange for 25-year-old RHP Handsome Frank. "It's a done deal," said one executive speaking on the condition of anonymity. "I'm surprised word got around so quickly. We just signed off on this an hour ago." The deal apparently is awaiting physicals before an official announcement is made by either team. In this current campaign Grog is hitting at a .154 clip with no home runs and 1 RBIs. Frank has taken the mound for 15 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 1-0 record with a 6.87 ERA. The Corvega reliever has limited opposing batters to a .312 batting average. 27 May 2298 - Atom Trades Alone for Easy Town's Funke You can focus on the negatives after being traded to a new team -- finding a new place to stay, leaving teammates and friends, having to start anew -- but one player hopes to focus on the positives. "It means I'm wanted somewhere. At least one team sees potential in me." Those were the comments heard after the Atom Cats came to an agreement to deal 30-year-old RF Travis Alone and 19-year-old minor league RHP Tony Salas to the Easy Town Assaultrons for 19-year-old minor league C Justin Grown, 18-year-old minor league LF Chris McCreight, 20-year-old minor league CF Karl Funke and a 2nd round draft pick earlier today. The deal is expected to be formally announced later this evening. Looking at his present stats, Alone has compiled a .320 batting average in 37 games with a .328 on-base percentage, while hitting 3 home runs and driving in 19 runs. 27 May 2298 - Museum with Undiagnosed Illness Oberland T-51s reliever Devon Museum is going to miss some time with an illness. It will keep him out of this weekend's series versus Vault 81 and probably for the next couple of weeks. While the Dwellers are visiting Oberland at their ballpark in Graygarden this weekend, Museum will head to Vault 81 to seek treatment. According to Oberland team trainer Ken Haney, Museum is showing symptoms of Mole Rat Disease. "He's showing all the symptoms of Mole Rat Disease," Haney said. "He's tired, his SPECIAL is lower, he aches more from minor injuries. We're going to see if Curie can work her magic." 27 May 2298 - Rome Takes Charge, Blanks Diamond City, 2-0 It wasn't easy but the FHE Yao Guai made it look that way. Starter Bow Rome shut out the Diamond City Swatters despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the FHE Yao Guai cruised to victory, 2-0. Rome allowed only 6 hits and rang up 6 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up." In season stats Rome shows a 3-5 record in 10 games, 65.2 innings, 60 strikeouts and a 4.25 ERA. 27 May 2298 - Four Leafs End Mastodon's Streak Lady Luck was not on the side of Tom Mastodon or his teammates today at Beantown Brewery Stadium. Everything went the way of the Finch Farm Four Leafs, who not only came away with the 4-3 victory over County Crossing, but also held Mastodon hitless in 4 at-bats to put an end to his 21-game hitting streak. "It was a good run," Mastodon said afterward. "It would be much easier to take right now if we had won." Currently Mastodon has 2 home runs and a .353 batting average. 27 May 2298 - Slingshot Slugs T-51s to 12-4 Win The Oberland T-51s topped the Vault 81 Dwellers, 12-4, with first baseman Curtis Slingshot playing a big role. Slingshot hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the T-51s in the win. Gerald Jerry got the win, improving to 7-3. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Vault 81 now has a 12-game losing streak. In the first inning, Slingshot had a 3-run home run for Oberland. It was his 10th home run of the season and put the T-51s on top, 4-1. "We're in a funk right now," said Vault 81 skipper Jason Personhood. 27 May 2298 - Chemists Drop Synths, 6-3 The Sunshine Tidings Chemists beat the Lexington Synths, 6-3, at Super Duper Mart Stadium. Fon Traderman, in particular, was impressive. He was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Tony Bertha got the win, improving to 5-3. He worked 8 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. The win puts Sunshine Tidings at 19-19 this season. Sunshine Tidings used a well-timed hit by Justin Zent to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Chemists ahead, 5-2. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important. Traderman told the Sunshine Tidings Bulletin: "I was born for the big stage." 27 May 2298 - Party Boys Top Ghouls, 5-4, in 10 The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys did just enough to secure a victory over the The Slog Ghouls, 5-4, at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Chet Arthur. Nordhagen Beach reliever Night Demon Archacki picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Tiny Greene was saddled with the loss. The victory gives Nordhagen Beach a record of 25-13. The Party Boys procured the win, in large part because of pinch hitter Dan Crowchaser. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. "If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. 27 May 2298 - Adamantium Bump Off Silver Shroud, 7-4 Austin Engill was a major contributor to the 7-4 Abernathy win over Fort Hagen. The Adamantium shortstop went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. T-Bone Heagy collected save number 11. The triumph puts Abernathy at 23-15 for the season. Early in the game, Engill had a 2-run home run for Abernathy. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Adamantium on top, 4-2. "We put it together today and came out with the win," Engill said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

May 2298 - News and Notes - May 28
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 28 May 2298 - Tostado Slugs Synths to 10-4 Win The Lexington Synths defeated the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 10-4. Doing his part was right fielder Crooked Tostado, who slugged 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. The Synths move to 18-21 with the win, while the Chemists drop to 19-20. The Synths benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the second. With Justin Daros at bat and Lexington leading 1-0, the Sunshine Tidings miscue allowed Lexington to plate 2 and take the lead, 3-0. "Nice to tuck this win away," said Tostado. 28 May 2298 - Wallace Masters Roxbury in Complete Game Win Egret rode a good effort from starter Phlip Wallace to beat the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury. The final score was 5-1. At 19-20, Egret is in second place in the South Charles Association Railroad League. Wallace pitched a complete game for Egret. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 5 hits. He struck out 8 during his 126-pitch performance. "It was a tough night at the plate," said Roxbury manager Squatty O'Sullivan. 28 May 2298 - Deathclaws Win, Richardson Has 3 Hit Night The University Point Deathclaws downed the Goodneighbor Hancocks, 10-4, at Gwinnett Brewery Park. Kory Richardson led the way, going 3-for-5 for University Point. The winner was Adam Froggatt, who threw 122 pitches over 8 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits. University Point has now won 4 in a row. The Deathclaws got a gift in the bottom of the fourth inning, when they were leading 3-2. With two out and the bases loaded, Jukebox Luttrell reached on an error by the left fielder, driving in 2 runs. It made the score 5-2, University Point. "We maximized our offense today," said University Point skipper Woody Lumpkin. "That makes everyone's life easier." 28 May 2298 - Ghouls Deal Party Boys 3-2 Defeat In a low-scoring clash between The Slog and Nordhagen Beach, pitcher Jason Woods was a difference-maker. The left-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 win. Tiny Greene recorded the save for The Slog, his 11th of the season. The Ghouls, at 18-21, sit in third place in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League. The Slog relied on the hitting of Boots Yellowhair to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Ghouls on top, 3-0. For the game, Yellowhair had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats. "We were in it," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. "We just didn't score enough runs." 28 May 2298 - Fort Hagen Grabs 5-3 Road Win The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud picked up a win at Tato Field, knocking off the Abernathy Adamantium, 5-3. Starting pitcher All Day Acosta played a key role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Acosta, now 3-2. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. Fort Hagen raised its record to 21-18 with the win. Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Mark Miller? The Fort Hagen second baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put the Silver Shroud on top, 1-0. For the game, Miller had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats. Miller expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."

Starting pitcher Kyle Clevinger was a big reason why. Abernathy raised its record to 24-16 with the win. With the series win, the Adamantium now have a three-game lead on the Silver Shroud in the Institute League. With no one out in the bottom of the first, Po Greenzone barreled up a fastball from Derek Green. The result was a 3-run home run, putting the Adamantium in front, 4-0. "We did a lot of things right," said Greenzone. 29 May 2298 - Party Boys Rally to Eke Out 10-inning Win Nordhagen Beach Party Boys starter Casey Diehl pitched a strong game against the The Slog Ghouls at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium, leading the Party Boys to victory, 5-4. Nordhagen Beach pitcher Sia Abber got the win. He's now 1-1. Wonder Boy Fultz was tagged with the loss. The win elevated the Party Boys to 26-14. The Party Boys relied on second baseman Brian Masterson for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal. "I'll probably toss and turn tonight," The Slog manager Mack O'Shea said following the tough loss. Nordhagen Beach trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the eighth. Tyler Storts was pitching a shutout, but started the eighth cold, walking Ryan Combs and then giving back-to-back singles to Dustin Mart and Tomas Jones to make it 2-1. Michael Fogcrawler then hit a first-pitch, three-run bomb to give Nordhagen Beach a 4-2 lead. Unfortunately, the Party Boys could not hold the lead. Night Demon Archaki came on in the ninth to try for his 10th save of the season. However, he gave up back-to-back singles and then an RBI double to C.T. Woodard to cut the lead to 4-3. After intentionally walking Nick Homebody with one out, Archaki then walked Tony Edgewater to tie the game, 4-4. He blew his second save of the season, but was able to escape the inning with no further damage. 29 May 2298 - Knuckle Punchers Slip Past Egret, 10-9 Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury was host to some action-packed drama. The Roxbury Knuckle Punchers outlasted Dustin Bowfiddle and the Egret Ninjas, 10-9. Bowfiddle was impressive in the loss. The Egret second baseman was 4 for 5 with a triple and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Roxbury reliever Matt Rodrigue picked up the win, raising his record to 3-5. Andy Helium was tagged with the loss. The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Roxbury third baseman Grognak Inman, facing Andy Helium, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Knuckle Punchers the 10-9 win. "I felt good up there," said Inman. "I saw the ball well." The Knuckle Punchers now have a record of 11-29.

Garbageman rocked opposing pitching for a .533 average (8-for-15), 2 home runs and 9 RBIs to come away with the award. So far this season Garbageman has gotten 52 hits in 121 at-bats for a .430 batting average with 3 home runs. His stats include 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored. 2298 Week 8 - The Week in Review
Analysis
Big risers and big fallers mark the 8th week of the season. First of all, I am analyzing the league but not responsible for putting out the Power Rankings. So, let me point out that the Vault 81 Dwellers are 22nd out of 24 teams. However (!), the Dwellers just dropped their 14th straight game yesterday, a second-straight weekend sweep at the hands of the Oberland T-51s. With 14 straight losses, regardless of whom they came against, Vault 81 is team 24 . . . at best . . . at this point in the season. Some BMU teams may currently be better that the Dwellers; that is how terrible they have been. Their last win came exactly 20 days ago when they needed 12 innings to defeat the University Point Deathclaws in a midweek game. In comparison to a week ago, let's look at the teams who made the biggest rise through the Power Rankings this week and which teams had the biggest plunge down the rankings. Risers +7 - Starlight Lady Killers (LW - 16, TW - 8) - The Lady Killers won 4 of 5, including four straight. With a weekend sweep of Concord, the Killers are now just one game back of reeling Fort Hagen in the Institute League. Starlight has been an up and down team, but they used Week 8 to change their status within the tightest league in the CBO +5 - Egret Ninjas (LW 18, TW - 13) - No team seems to want the Railroad League wildcard spot, but the Ninjas currently hold that place thanks to a 3-2 week. In all fairness, two of those three losses came against 24th-ranked Atom, while they lost their series to 23rd-ranked Roxbury. The Cats and Knuckle Punchers swapped spots in the Power Rankings this week. For Egret, we have no idea why they jumped up five spots, but they did. +4 - Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (LW - 13, TW - 9) - The Red Rockets are fourth in the Minutemen League, but they made a nice jump to 9th in the Power Rankings from last week's 13th. Jamaica Plain got the nice boost thanks to a 4-1 week, with a two-game sweep of the Dwellers and wining two of three over Atom. +4 - FHE Yao Guai (LW - 21, TW - 17) - The Yao Guai dropped their series finale to Diamond City yesterday, breaking their six-game winning streak. On the week, FHE was 4-1, including an impressive two-game sweep at Quincy. Fallers -11 - Concord Radstags (LW - 10, TW - 21) - The Radstags flipped their four-game winning streak by ending this week with a four-game losing streak, including getting swept by the Lady Killer this weekend. With midweek games against Nordhagen Beach in three of the next four weeks, they may stay around the 20s for the next few weeks. -6 - Diamond City Swatters (LW - 9, TW - 15) - The Swatters avoided a winless week by winning Game Three against FHE. This week saw DC drop two straight home series to University Point and the Yao Guai. Those wasteland creatures are tough to kill with swatters! -6 - Sunshine Tidings Chemists (LW - 12, TW - 18) - Their week was not as bad as the teams above, but a 2-3 week dropped the Chemists from a top half perch. Sunshine Tidings split with Finch Farm and then lost their weekend series two games to one at Lexington. They get two home series this week, but one will be a home set against first-place Abernathy.

The View from the BMU
This is one of those problem settlements where there is just nothing to show the "present" of my universe. I'll just go with the past and the present will be for our imaginations.
Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kawolski 31 May 2298 – Haymarket Mall On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our twelfth trip around the BMU, we will go to the concrete palace with the beautiful rooftop garden, Haymarket Mall. The Mall According to a terminal entry, "Haymarket Mall served as an indoor marketplace before the Great War, with upper levels consisting of apartments and common areas. . . . After the war, the building fell into disrepair, with most rooms inaccessible. The main area consists of two floors, accessible via various stairwells, with an elevator leading to more derelict rooms upstairs. The lower section has access to Congress Street garage, while the upper floors have access to the exterior roof." Today, the Haymarket Mall is Downtown Boston's primary shopping location. Although the building is still in disrepair, it does offer the most stability in Downtown Boston skyscrapers. Residents have been working on making the building more accessible and the upper floors have been completely repaired to allow separated apartments. The lower floors serve as the shopping center. Haymarket Mall has one of only three Fallon's Department Stores with the main one in Roxbury and the secondary one in Diamond City. The upper floors are the living quarters with a number of upper-class apartments in the top "suites" and regular apartments below them. The Terrace The Garden Terrace is the area and namesake of Haymarket Mall's unique field location. According to a terminal, "It is the ruined remains of a once-elegant roof-top terraced garden, with a fountain in the middle surrounded by dead grass, old standard lamps, and damaged trees. The terrace is accessed through Haymarket Mall or by traveling along the overpass above which is accessed from the Commonwealth Bank (via a walkway and then up) or from the Cambridge construction site. . . . On the northeast corner of the terrace, there is a building. . . . Near the entrance to the small building, there is scaffolding leading down. The monorail car can be accessed by walking across some planks connected to the scaffolding or by descending to the street below." It still needs more TLC, but the Garden Terrace does serve as the Haymarket Mall Commandos' home field, aptly named Garden Terrace Field. Future plans include turning the field into greens so that it can be a baseball field when in season and a picnic park otherwise. The Commandos certainly enjoy their unique location with the only baseball field at a second story or above.

May 2298 - News and Notes - May 31
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 31 May 2298 - T-60s Win, 10-1, on the Rooftop Fiddler's Green starter Chris Ciccone pitched well against the Haymarket Mall Commandos at Garden Terrace Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 10-1. Fiddler's Green is now 14-15, while Haymarket Mall is 19-10. Julian Roughneck, the 21-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Roughneck contributed a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put Fiddler's Green up, 4-0. "You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Roughneck told the Fiddler's Green Citizen. 31 May 2298 - Two BMU Players with 6 RBI Apiece The Bunker Hill Gun Fu's Greg Townsend and the Union Hope Lifegivers' Justin Browneye were the Thursday afternoon BMU stars, each knocking in sux runs for his team. Townsend went 3 for 4 with a grand slam, two walks, a run, and six RBI in his team's 14-9 road victory over Dark Hollow Pond League leader Greentop Nursery. Browneye was 2 for 3 with two three-run home runs, a walk, two runs scored, and six RBI in his team's 6-2 home win over the Galleria Robotics Experts. 31 May 2298 - Ghouls Shutout Adamantium, End Waples' Hit Streak Abernathy dropped a 6-0 shutout to Edwin Mass and the The Slog Ghouls at Tato Field today. The Adamantium offered little resistance to Mass, who stopped them on 4 hits, fanned 7 and walked 0. "It just felt right today," the left-handed Mass told reporters after the win. "Even with the rain, it didn't throw me off my rhythm." For the season Mass has logged 2 wins and 4 losses and struck out 54 batters in 76.2 innings while compiling a 3.05 ERA. It was the best of both worlds for The Slog today, as they also snapped Jim Waples's 24-game hitting streak. The 20-year-old Abernathy second baseman failed to get a hit in 3 at-bats. "Nothing personal against Waples, we just wanted to win the game," said Ghouls skipper Mack O'Shea. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing." When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Waples frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won." Hitting .363 to date, Waples has 1 home run and 17 RBIs. He has played in 41 games. 31 May 2298 - Honeycutt Leads Charge, Finch Farm Blasts Chemists The Finch Farm Four Leafs used an offensive barrage to beat the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 13-2, at ArcJet Systems Stadium. Danny Honeycutt led the way, going 3-for-6 for Finch Farm. Matt Pageturner, the winning pitcher, is now 5-6. He went 9 innings, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits, while fanning 4 and walking 2. The loss makes Sunshine Tidings 19-22. The Four Leafs got a gift in the top of the second inning, when they were leading 1-0. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Alec Bullets reached on an error by the center fielder, driving in 1 run. It made the score 2-0, Finch Farm. "Today was a lot of fun," said Honeycutt. 31 May 2298 - Dwellers Beat Jamaica Plain, 9-8, End 14-Game Skid Deer Quickwalker was instrumental in his team's 9-8 triumph over the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. The right fielder was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Vault 81 Dwellers. Reliever Danny Rocketman picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Dennis Wensink took the loss. Radscorpion Johnson closed it out for his 6th save. Quickwalker had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from Dennis Wensink, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Dwellers a 9-8 lead. It was the 13th home run of the year for Quickwalker. "The name of the game is scoring runs," Quickwalker said. "We did a good job of that today." Vault 81 ended its historic 14-game losing streak with the late rally. At 17-24, the Dwellers claim a tie for 4th place in the South Charles Association Railroad League. Amazingly, they are only two games back of second-place Egret despite the long losing streak. 31 May 2298 - Jones Walks-off Radstags, 6-5 The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys and Concord Radstags obliged fans looking for a good time. The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys defeated the Concord Radstags, 6-5, in North Charles Association action at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Nordhagen Beach pitcher Tommy Beach had a standout performance. The victory gives Nordhagen Beach a record of 27-14. Tomas Jones was the walk-off hero for Nordhagen Beach. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Party Boys right fielder hit a dramatic solo home run, his 10th of the season, to send the teams home. "Tommy is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. 31 May 2298 - Assaultrons Nip Silver Shroud, 5-4 Masters of one-run games, the Easy Town Assaultrons overcame a good performance by Fort Hagen second baseman Mark Miller to knock off Fort Hagen, 5-4, at Easy Town Field. Miller was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Thomas Seefar in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Brent Hooker took the loss. The win gives Easy Town a season record of 24-17. The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Bobby Carr came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Hooker, he hit a first-pitch slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Easy Town on top, 5-4. "I was a little disappointed," said Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen. "We could've and should've scored more runs."

June 2298 - News and Notes - June 1
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 June 2298 - May Awards and Features Postponed We at Publick Occurrences will run our feature on players of the month and the BMU monthly report in tomorrow's edition. Unfortunately, time constraints make it hard to publish that feature other than Mondays and Thursdays, so look for our May players in Thursday's edition. 1 June 2298 - Commandos Beat T-60s, 4-2 The home crowd had a good time watching the Fiddler's Green T-60s and Haymarket Mall Commandos get after it. Starting pitcher Digger Vadim was a major factor in the 4-2 Haymarket Mall Commandos triumph over the Fiddler's Green T-60s. In 7.1 innings, Vadim surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Batface Landry collected his 1st save. With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Goody Cloyse barreled up a changeup from Tombstone Costner. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Commandos in front, 4-0. "Digger is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Haymarket Mall manager Squirt Becker. With the win, Haymarket Mall pushed its record to 20-10. 1 June 2298 - Leftswipe has 3 hit day, Leads Nerd Ragers to Win The College Square Nerd Ragers topped the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks by a score of 14-8. Leading the way was center fielder Gene Leftswipe. Leftswipe went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Nerd Ragers. College Square reliever Lost Dog Coleman picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tyler Storts absorbed the loss. The win puts College Square at 18-12 this season. The Nerd Ragers got a big at-bat from left fielder Jared Zaccone. For the game, Zaccone was 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave College Square a 9-6 lead. "Our goal is to improve each and every day," Leftswipe told the College Square Citizen. 1 June 2298 - Brawl Leads to Suspension, Finch Farm Wins Finch Farm Four Leafs starter Steve Rocky was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 4-2, in a game interrupted by a brawl between two players. Sunshine Tidings has now lost 4 consecutive games. Peter Tatoeater, the slugging third baseman, had a direct impact on the outcome. Tatoeater contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Finch Farm up, 3-2. "It was a good effort all around," said Rocky. In an announcement following today's game, the league informed Tommy Junkman of Finch Farm and Tony Bertha of Sunshine Tidings that they both had been suspended 7 games for fighting. The league president told them, "This type of aggressive behavior will not be tolerated in this league." Junkman wasn't happy with the length of his suspension. He thought he got the worst deal and directed comments at the league commissioner Nate Howard: "In any fight, whoever throws the first punch should get a more severe penalty. If I threw the first punch, I'd expect to get the most punishment. Whoever took the blow should get a lesser punishment." His manager, Wiley Boat, agreed with him and said something needs to be done about it: "Junkman is right. The league needs to look at its policy and make sure the punishment fits the crime. Bertha started it, Bertha should be suspended. I mean, he plunked him and then punched him." In the 2298 season Junkman is hitting .203 with 1 home run. This season Bertha has a 5-3 record with a 3.58 ERA in 11 starts. 1 June 2298 - Acosta's Hit Streak Soars to 20 Games The Roxbury Knuckle Punchers may have proven to be mere mortals today as they lost 12-2 to the University Point Deathclaws, but Tony Acosta continued to hit like a god. The second baseman collected 1 hit in 5 at-bats in the loss and extended his hitting streak to 20 games. "Acosta is playing great and is on fire right now," Knuckle Punchers manager Squatty O'Sullivan said. "Hopefully his play can spark the rest of our team and help us pick up some wins." Acosta was apparently not happy with the game and when pressed by reporters in the locker room only said "nothing else matters but the loss." Tony Acosta flied out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, flied out in the 7th and singled in the 9th. So far this season Acosta is batting .351 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 65 hits in 185 at-bats, 10 walks and a .383 OBP. Acosta has played in 42 games. 1 June 2298 - Stuhlsatz Skunks Warwick, 11-0 The Warwick Mirelurks met their match today in Diamond City hurler Mark Stuhlsatz. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 7-hit shutout. "He just worked us over," Warwick skipper Old Man Langford said. "He probably didn't even need a shower after the game -- he barely worked up a sweat." In the 11-0 victory, Stuhlsatz whiffed 5 and gave up 1 walk. This season Stuhlsatz has worked 59.2 innings with 33 strikeouts en route to a 4-6 record and a 6.34 ERA. 1 June 2298 - Matsumoto Has 20-Game Hitting Streak Hid Matsumoto of the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets extended his hitting streak to 20 straight games with 1 hit in today's 6-5 triumph over the Vault 81 Dwellers at CURIE Inc. Field. "Hid has been making it easy for me to pencil his name in the lineup every day," Red Rockets manager Mark Sellsword joked after the game. Hid Matsumoto grounded out in the 1st, flew out in the 3rd, walked in a run in the 4th, struck out in the 7th, and hit a two-run home run off Radscorpion Johnson in the 9th. Thus far this season Matsumoto is hitting .337 with 13 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 44 runs scored. He has 60 hits in 178 at-bats and has played in 42 games. 1 June 2298 - Erb Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games With 2 hits at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium today, Dan Erb added another game to his hitting streak -- the Concord left fielder has now hit safely for 20 games in a row. But the hitting feat wasn't enough for the Radstags today, as they fell, 10-3, to the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. "Frankly, I don't care about hits," Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson said later. "I'll let him get 3 hits in 3 at-bats if it means we get a win." Dan Erb flied out in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, and tripled in the 6th. His two triples tied Erb with Seth Dungan for the official North Charles Association record for the number of triples in a game. It stands as a five-way tie in the CBO based on this season's new record books. This season Erb is batting .337 with 11 doubles, 4 triples, and 6 home runs. The timely hitting of Taboo Richardson helped Nordhagen Beach down the Radstags. Richardson was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3 for the Party Boys. Nordhagen Beach has an impressive 28-14 record. "I felt good up there," said Richardson. "I saw the ball well." It was his first three-hit game of the season. Brian Masterson hit a run-scoring double off Mario Bustos in the bottom of the second, which put the Party Boys in front, 1-0. In addition to the double, Masterson had 1 single, while going 2 for 4. 1 June 2298 - Silver Shroud Deal Assaultrons 3-1 Loss The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud went home winners at Easy Town Field, thanks in large part to starter Joey Dimes. Dimes stifled the Easy Town Assaultrons, enabling Fort Hagen to grab the 3-1 win. The win puts the Silver Shroud at 22-20, while the Assaultrons drop to 24-18. "The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Dimes. "Successful pitchers do it." Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Andre Grogg? The Fort Hagen left fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Silver Shroud on top, 2-0. For the game, Grogg had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

June 2298 - BMU Monthly Report
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 2 June 2298 - BMU Players of the Month Mystic Pines's Q Chosen CA Batter of the Month: In May, Ruben Q swung a sweet bat and put together a solid month to win the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month. The Mystic Pines third baseman batted .463 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored. Kurt Kilgore Winner in May: At only 20 years of age, Kurt Kilgore could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career. June 2298 - News and Notes - June 2
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 2 June 2298 - CBO Players of the Month County Crossing's Noggin NCA #1 Batter in May: Today Josh Noggin was voted North Charles Association Batter of the Month for June. During the month the 29-year-old County Crossing first baseman compiled a .391 batting average. Most importantly for the Bloodbugs though, he also posted 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Noggin is hitting .318 this season with 11 home runs, 41 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He has 50 hits in 157 at-bats. SCA Honors Matsumoto, #1 Batter in May: When Hid Matsumoto stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the South Charles Association Batter of the Month award. The young Jamaica Plain center fielder posted a .382 batting average with 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 29 runs. Matsumoto also worked pitchers for 16 walks to post a .486 on-base percentage. For the year Matsumoto is batting .339 with 59 hits and 12 home runs. He has scored 43 times and driven in 28. Watson Cops #1 Pitcher Award in May: Neil Watson hasn't been around long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In May the Abernathy starter earned a 4-1 mark in 6 starts. He threw 44 innings, struck out 36 and compiled a solid 2.86 ERA. This year Watson has compiled a 4-2 mark with a 3.44 ERA in 10 starts. Eloquent #1 SCA Pitcher in May: Quincy Eloquent of Goodneighbor had an outstanding May with a 5-0 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the South Charles Association. He topped off the month with a 1.75 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 51.1 innings, fanned 38 and held opposing teams to a .223 average. So far this year Eloquent has compiled a 7-2 record with a 3.00 ERA. 2 June 2298 - Baron Stars in 8-5 Win for Haymarket Mall The Haymarket Mall Commandos handed the Fiddler's Green T-60s a loss at Garden Terrace Field. The final score was 8-5. Steve Baron was one of the major contributors for Haymarket Mall. In addition to his 3 singles and 1 home run, he scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Aldo Sanch, the winning pitcher, is now 7-0. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 7 and walking 1. Haymarket Mall leads the Massachusetts Association Downtown Boston League by 3 games. In the bottom of the third, Ayag Mour hit a 2-run double. The 7th double of the season for the Haymarket Mall catcher put the Commandos on top, 3-2. "We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Mour said. The T-60s had an outstanding performance from left fielder Jeff Siltbean. On the day, he was 3 for 3 with two home runs, a walk, three runs scored, and two RBI. 2 June 2298 - Williams Now 4-1 After Subduing Strongbacks Noah Williams pitched a gem in leading College Square to a 3-0 victory over the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks. With the victory, the Nerd Ragers upped their record to 19-12. Williams's performance can only be described as masterful. He notched 8 strikeouts in 8.1 innings while allowing 3 hits. Williams, who leads the CA with a 0.59 WHIP, goes to 4-1 on the year with 63 strikeouts. "Our guys are never satisfied," said College Square manager Jeremy Jenkins. 2 June 2298 - Lead Bellies Edge Big Leaguers, 7-6 The Boston Common Lead Bellies bested the Natick Banks Big Leaguers by a score of 7-6, with third baseman Blue Beak getting the main credit. On the day, Beak was 1 for 2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Lead Bellies. Tennessee Tailor closed the game out for Boston Common, earning his 8th save. The 5th-place Lead Bellies now have a win-loss record of 13-18. Aaron Goodale, who is tied for 3rd in the MA in stolen bases with 5, aided the Boston Common cause with a 2-run single in the bottom of the second. For the game, the center fielder went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. "We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Beak told a Boston Common Today reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax." Oren Gep and Jim Uglyhair each had home runs in the losing effort for Natick Banks. Also, league commissioner Nate Howard announced that two players had been suspended for inappropriate conduct. He told BNN, "What I'm trying to do with these penalties is say, we can't stop you from doing these things, but if you do them, you have to understand you will pay the consequences." Baseball can be an intense game and on-field confrontations happen. However, the league disciplinary policy is to punish, sometimes severely, those who decide to settle things with their fists. When Blue Beak of the Boston Common Lead Bellies and Jon Huddleston of the Natick Banks Big Leaguers got into a scuffle during a game, both players knew that a suspension would be forthcoming. Sure enough, today it was announced that both players will each receive a 4-game suspension for their actions in today's game at Hallucigen Stadium at Boston Common. Beak is batting .284 this season in 31 games with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has 31 hits in 109 at-bats.
