Spring Training Game 3: New York Highlanders vs. Boston Americans
Boston gave the nod to its 1st round draft selection (#6 overall) Johnny Lush and he did not disappoint. While limiting his pitches to 42 total, Lush scattered 2 hits and workaround 2 walks, while striking out 3 to finish his scoreless effort. Homer Smoot smacked the ball well today, as did Joe Dolan. The Americans played sloppy on defense, as they committed 5 errors on the day.

Spring Training Game 4: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
A fine pitching performance by Jesse Tannehill powered the Boston Americans to a 2 to 1 victory over the visiting Chicago White Sox. Jack Hayden, Johnny Lush (playing rightfield), and Bill Carney all had a solid day at the plate.

Spring Training Game 5: Boston Americans vs. Cleveland Naps
While the outcome of spring training games don't truly matter, it is never fun to lose one in extra innings. Sam Leever went 5 innings of scoreless ball, and Johnny Lush is starting to show signs of being a solid 2-way player that makes things rather interesting from a roster perspective. It might be premature, but if I can use Lush in the starting rotation and then in the outfield on his non-throwing days, that will give me flexibility to move either Lange or Stahl to free up some money and bring in youth. I also have Homer Smoot still in the wings that has the makings of a solid every day outfielder.

Boston Reaches Trade Deal with Chicago
As I attempt to align my lineups and prepare for not only the upcoming season but look forward over the next 3 to 5 years, there are opportunities to hopefully make the franchise little better. To that end, the Boston Americans dealt 24-year old 1st baseman Bert Conn (posted 4.7 WAR at AA last season) and a 7th round draft pick to the Chicago White Sox in return for 22-year old shortstop Leo Lozada (recent IFA signing from Cuba) and $65 in cash. My assistant GM was not happy with the trade, but I like the fact that Lozada can play several infield and outfield positions.

Spring Training Game 6: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans
A nice outing by Willie Garoni (1 ER in 4 2/3 innings) as he continues to make a case to crack the starting rotation. Solly Hofman, Danny Shay, and Jesse Hoffmeister put the ball in play all day.

Spring Training Game 7: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
The defense remains sloppy and Noodles Hahn hasn't quite dialed in yet, but the Americans prevailed in their spring training matchup against St. Louis. So far I am pleased with how Solly Hofman is manning 1st-base and, to my surprise, has a little pop in his swing.

Spring Training Game 8: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
The Boston Americans picked up the win due to the solid pitching performance of rookie Johnny Lush who scattered 3 hits, while striking out 5 in 4 scoreless innings. McAllister, Shay, and Hoffmeister each picked up a hit.

Naps Reach Deal With Giants
The have been rumors circling in the local Cleveland papers that veteran shortstop Zeke Wrigley was unhappy with management and was demanding a front office change. Well Zeke may have overplayed his hand, as instead of getting his wish of a front office change he instead received a change of scenery thanks to the Naps shipping him off to the New York Giants in exchange for 24-year old second baseman Benny Bowcock.

Spring Training Game 9: Detroit Tigers vs. Boston Americans
A scoreless battle until the Tigers jumped into the lead with 2 runs in the 8th inning. Despite a solid effort to mount a comeback, the Americans fell in the 2 to 1 defeat. Hofman and McAllister had a nice day at the plate.

Spring Training Game 10: Boston Americans vs. New York Highlanders
A respectable outing by Sam Leever was wasted by Harry Kane's relief outing meltdown. Bill Lange, Johnny Lush, and Jesse Tannehill hit the ball well today. It has only been 10 games, but Lush is showing me that he might be a legit two-way player.

help
Apologies from a novice, but I’m finding the tutorials for how all this works completely useless. Could some of you experienced gents recommend something helpful? I just want to play historical seasons in Franchise mode. Thank you.

Spring Training Game 11: Boston Americans vs. Chicago White Sox
Another nice outing for Willie Garoni, as he led the Boston Americans to a 2 to 0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Veteran outfielder Bill Lange, who has been the center of speculation as of late if he might be traded prior to the start of the season, continues to smash the ball to all field. While no decision has been made yet, it is undisputed that there is a crowded outfield and something has to give.

Spring Training Game 12: Cleveland Naps vs. Boston Americans
A respectable outing from Noodles Hahn, coupled to fine bullpen pitching, carried the Americans to victory over the Naps. Solly Hofman and Jack Hayden each had a multi-hit game, while Dave Brain's 7th inning solo blast proved to be the game winner.

Spring Training Game 13: Boston Americans vs. Philadelphia Athletics
A decent outing from Johnny Lush was wasted after reliever Ham Iburg could not keep the Athletics in check. Several players who are fighting to make the big-league roster and/or secure a starting spot (Smoot, Cassidy, Truby) had hits on the day.

Spring Training Game 14: St. Louis Browns vs. Boston Americans
The Americans fell behind early and were unable to mount a comeback, as they fell to the Browns by a 3 to 1 score. While Tannehill was tagged with the loss, his outing was decent. Lange continues to crush the ball (now batting .444 during spring training), and Lush, Shay, and Truby each picked up a hit.

Spring Training Game 15: Washington Senators vs. Boston Americans
Another loss for the Americans, as they fell to the Senators by a 4 to 3 score. Sam Leever had a bland outing, but avoided factoring into the decision. Johnny Lush was dialed in today at the plate, as he went 2 for 2 (Double) with a Run and a RBI.

Spring Training Game 16: Boston Americans vs. Detroit Tigers
The early earnings were rough for the Americans but thanks to some timely hitting by Johnny Lush, Solly Hofman, and Homer Smoot and the solid bullpen pitching of Willie Garoni, Boston topped the Tigers by an 8 to 4 score.

Spring Training Game 17: New York Highlanders vs. Boston Americans
A terrible 1st inning for Noodles Hahn put the Americans too far behind to make this a competitive game; falling to the Highlanders 8 to 4. Lozada (Triple), Smoot, and Brain did well at the plate.
