Cards news: Dec. 15 -- Cards acquire Gold Glove catcher from Giants for two prospects
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired 2026 National League Gold Glove winning catcher Drew Romo from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for 19-year-old third baseman Estaban Alvarez and 28-year-old starting pitcher Conner Lunn.
Romo, 25, was taken by the Colorado Rockies in the first round of the 2020 MLB draft. Colorado traded him to the Texas Rangers on July 13, 2025. The Rangers later dealt him to the Giants on Dec. 11, 2025. Romo played in 137 games over two seasons with Colorado and 58 in one season in Texas. In 2026, he caught 130 games for the Giants and hit .228 with 16 homers and 149 RBIs, along with winning the NL Gold Glove for his position. For his career, Lunn has played in 325 major league games and hit .255 with 31 home runs and 137 RBIs. Alvarado, signed out of the Dominican Republic in July of 2023, was one of the highest-touted young prospects in the St. Louis' farm system. He has played in 120 games/118 starts (rookie ball and low-A) over the past two seasons and hit .201 with nine home runs and 38 RBIs. The 28-year-old Lunn has been in the Cardinals' system since being taken in the 11th round of the 2019 MLB draft. He has seen time in the majors making 32 appearances/20 starts over the past three seasons. In those games, he has gone 5-7 with a 5.68 ERA. During the 2026 campaign at AAA Memphis, Lunn was 7-8 with a 3.04 ERA in 26 games/24 starts. Last edited by rink23; 07-05-2023 at 03:39 AM. |

Cards news: Dec. 17 -- Cards complete seven-player deal with Marlins
The St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins have completed a seven-player trade which includes the Cardinals' sending starting pitcher Jose Davila and catcher Cam Gallagher to the Marlins in exchange for first baseman/right fielder Jacob Berry and right-handed relief pitcher Jhoan Duran.
Also included in the trade from St. Louis are outfielder Alex Iadisernia and minor league outfielder Brennon Seigler. The Marlins also will send minor-league first baseman Carson DeMartini to the Cardinals. Breaking down the players: * Jhoan Duran -- A 28-year-old right-handed relief pitcher. The Marlins acquired him from Minnesota via the 2025 Rule 5 draft. He pitched in 43 games/13 starts in 2026 going 7-8 with 17 saves and a 3.51 ERA. In his MLB career, he has worked in 240 games/13 starts going 18-20 with 32 saves and a 3.10 ERA. * Jacob Berry -- A 25-year-old first baseman/outfielder, Berry was taken with the sixth pick by Miami in the 2022 draft. After breaking into the majors in the 2025 season, when he hit .253 with 25 homers and 72 RBIs in 128 games, he followed that up by hitting .241 with 31 homers and 90 RBIs in 149 games. Berry is expected to be the Cardinals primary designated hitter while also handling some first base duties when Paul Goldschmidt needs time off. * Carson DeMartini -- Taken by the Marlins in the fourth round of the 2024 draft, DeMartini spent the 2026 season at High-A Beloit where he hit .249 with 33 home runs and 102 RBIs in 129 games. * Jose Davila -- The now 24-year-old won the fifth starting spot in the Cardinals rotation in spring training last season and did a solid job. In 30 games/29 starts, he went 10-11 with a 4.35 ERA. The Cardinals signed Davila as an international free agent in 2019. * Alex Iadisernia -- The 26-year-old outfielder has spent most of the last two seasons in the majors as a reserve outfielder for the Cardinals. In 2026, he got into 97 games/69 starts and hit .204 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs. For his MLB career, Iadisernia has hit .220 with 12 homers an 54 RBIs in 171 games/130 starts * Cam Gallagher -- Acquired to be the Cardinals' starting catcher before the 2026 season, Gallagher didn't play poorly. But the acquisition of Gold Glove winner Drew Romo just days ago made him expendable. Last season, Gallagher played in 127 games/124 starts for St. Louis and hit .211 with seven homers and 51 RBIs. For his career, Gallagher broke in with the Royals in 2017 before spending three seasons in Kansas City, he is a .235 hitter with 36 home runs and 225 RBIs. * Brennan Seigler -- Taken with the 25th of the 2024 draft by St. Louis, Seigler split the 2026 season between rookie-league Gulf Coast and low-A Palm Beach. The 21-year-old, 59 games/56 starts, he hit .270 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs. Last edited by rink23; 07-05-2023 at 04:22 AM. |
