1903 Draft Top 100
Andrejs Silamikelis out of Latvia is the top draft prospect this year. Chris Spinner (A great name for a pitcher, but he plays RF) is the top HS prospect, hailing from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, IL. Also of note is Joe Hubbard, one pitcher that opposing hitters are glad to see leaving the league. He has won the NCAA pitcher of the year award twice already and has a shot at winning it one final time.

1903 MLB Award Winners
AL MVP: Yun-Ho Chun, CF, Texas Rangers - 9.0 WAR, .338 wOBA, 118 wRC+, 26.4 ZR
NL MVP: J.P. Avila (2), LHP, Pittsburgh Pirates - 8.9 WAR, 1.95 FIP, 66 FIP-, 4.7 K/BB It's past time we talk about J.P. Avila. He is 31 years old and continues to dominate the National League. He has won the past two MVP awards as clearly the top player in the league. In the event of even a near tie, I will give the MVP to a position player. Not so in this case--Avila has deserved it. He has three Pitcher of the Year Awards to go with his 2 MVPs, 3 All-Star appearances, and has a Gold Glove to boot. He has 30.5 WAR in 4 years and depending on how the rest of his career goes is building a strong case for the Hall of Fame. AL Top Pitcher: Celio Cabedo (3), RHP, Minnesota Twins - 8.4 WAR, 2.13 FIP, 71 FIP-, 3.4 K/BB NL Top Pitcher: J.P. Avila (3), LHP, Pittsburgh Pirates - 8.9 WAR, 1.95 FIP, 66 FIP-, 4.7 K/BB AL Rookie of the Year: Tim Shriver, 3B, Seattle Mariners - 4.1 WAR, .326 wOBA, 111 wRC+, 14.3 ZR NL Rookie of the Year: Jamie Schneider, LF, San Francisco Giants - 6.4 WAR, .375 wOBA, 144 wRC+, 26.0 ZR AL Reliever of the Year: Ricky Feliz, RHP, Boston Red Sox - 5.2 WPA, 1.84 FIP, 61 FIP-, 2.9 K/BB NL Reliever of the Year: Goya Galarza, RHP, Atlanta Braves - 6.0 WPA, 2.37 FIP, 80 FIP-, 2.1 K/BB |

1903 Free Agency
Here are the top 30 Free Agents heading into 1904. Kevin Roberts is the top Free Agent, having won the Silver Slugger every year at 2B. Marvin Munoz is also looking for a new home again after signing a one-year contract last year. Brewers ace Luis Magallanes is on the market too, we shall see if they try to bring him back after their World Series win.
I also updated the Free Agency default uniform as that thing drives me crazy. I like how classy these look. Mod found here. |

1903 Unsigned Draftees
I found a few High Schoolers that will now be attending college, but all of them were very low in the draft: Enreecko Ambeau (15th Rd), Steve Oates (21), Brad May (11), and Bobby Thurston (23).

1903 Free Agency Summary
The Cubs signed the top free agent for 4 years. Quite a few of the relievers have still not signed as of opening day (a continued issue with OOTP). I have also noticed that a few of the players will sign with the Independent League and then have their contract purchased by a Major League team. It seems the Indy Leagues are more aggressive about pursuing players, even though their season starts much later (May 1).
The Brewers let Magallanes go to the Devil Rays and instead signed Steve Gardiner. They must believe they can get better production out of Gardiner and may have not wanted to go the extra year. |

1904 Top 100 Prospects
The top two prospects are draftees from the previous year once again--Andrejs Silamikelis, the first overall draft pick out of Latvia through the Kansas Jayhawks, and Joe Hubbard, the dominant college pitcher out of Illinois.

Deshawn Wetherspoon finally makes another appearance. He failed to sign 1901 draft out of high school and was sent to college. He has now made the All-Star team in his Junior year.
