Walkers news: May 21 -- St. Louis 4, Twin Cities 0, 12 innings
Record: 20-26, 5th, 9.5 GB Quad Cities
Cris Rosario hit a grand slam with two outs in the top of the 11th inning to help give St. Louis a 4-0 win over Twin Cities at Metropolitan Stadium (1977). Scoreless through regulation and into the top of the 12th. The River Walkers had just three hits through 11 innings, while the Snow Cats had just two the entire game. St. Louis starter Angel Tiburcio logged eight scoreless innings, allowing both of the Twin Cities hits. Making his first start of the season, Gilbert Carbollo kept the Walkers off the board for the first 5.2 inning, allowing two hits. Five relievers followed Carbollo to the mound, before St. Louis finally busted through in the 12th. In that 12th, Jimmy Herget got Alek Thomas to ground out to lead off the inning before giving way to Brian Hollister. Joshua Rivera then got things rolling with a single, before moving to second on a Peter Ahn ground ball. Jean Carmona was then given an intentional walk, to bring the slumping Jose Rivera to the plate. Rivera, however, on a 3-2 pitch coaxed another walk. Rosario got his count to 2-2, before blasting a pitch 377 feet over the fence in left field to drive in all of the game's runs. St. Louis used just two pitchers after the exit of Tiburcio. Ernesto Barbosa took care of the ninth and 10th innings. Danny Amador (3-0) didn't allow a base runner in the 11th or 12th to earn his third win. |

Walkers news: May 22 -- St. Louis 22, Twin Cities 4
Record: 21-26, 5th, 9 GB Quad City
Tied 2-2. St. Louis put up an improbable 12 runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning and then, for good measure, piled on eight more in the eighth as it crushed Twin Cities 22-4 at Metropolitan Stadium (1977). Much of the Snow Cats' issues in the sixth were there own, as they issued six walks of which two came with the bases loaded to drive in runs. But there also was plenty of offense. Jordan Groshans drove in the inning's first two runs with a single off Twin Cities reliever Mitchell Kikenny. Groshans drove in another run later in the inning with one of those bases-loaded walks. Hayden Jones drove in three runs with a double and a single. Peter Ahn also had a pair of RBI singles. In the eighth, the Walkers got three-run homers from Jones and Ahn. On the mound, Kaneo Kawamoto allowed four runs on nine hits over 6.2 innings. Travis Krogman finished off the seventh. Ricky Cisneros didn't allow a run in the eighth or ninth. |

Walkers news: May 23 -- St. Louis 8, Twin Cities 5
Record: 22-26, 5th, 9 GB Quad City
A pinch-hit grand slam from Jose Segura highlighted a five-run top of the seventh inning for St. Louis, and the River Walkers would hold on to defeat Twin Cities 8-5 at Metropolitan Stadium (1977). The victory gave St. Louis a three-game sweep of the Snow Cats. Tied 1-1 going into the top of the seventh, three straight singles from Jose Ramirez, Cris Rosario and Jared Thomas off Twin Cities reliever Mitchell Kikenny got things going for the Walkers. Jordan Gorshans then made it four consecutive singles, scoring Ramirez. Kikenny got Alek Thomas to pop up for the first out. But Segura followed with his slam on an 0-1 pitch, lining it 412 feet over the wall in right field. The Cats would get back into it scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth on two-run homers from Robbie Mackie (off Yeison Santos) and Drew Bowser (off Travis Krogman). St. Louis got two of those runs back in the top of the ninth, as Jordan Gorshans hit a two-run homer off Jesse Gaither. Trey Benton (2-5) turned in another solid start, allowing one run on four hits over six innings. Tiller pitched a scoreless seventh inning, before getting into trouble in the eighth. Santos faced three batters and recorded one out, along with the Mackie homer. Krogman got the eighth inning's other two outs, along with Bowser's homer. Ernesto Barbosa pitched around a lead-off double by Jeff Friedman in the ninth to record his sixth save. |

Walkers news: May 27 -- Cedar Rapids 3, St. Louis 2
Record: 24-28, 5th, 7.5 GB Quad City
Fueled by back-to-back triples from David Henderson and Mark Hill, Cedar Rapids scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to wipe out a 2-1 deficit, and the Grapplers went on to defeat St. Louis 3-2 at Connie Mark Stadium (1960). The River Walkers had gone up 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning thanks to consecutive homers from Edward Olivares and Jose Segura off Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Arturo Segoviano. The Grapplers got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth on an Henderson RBI single off River Walkers starter Kaneo Kawamoto. The hit drove in Arnold Hammond, who had led off with a single, and he reached third on a Rhys Hoskins double. Kawamoto was still on the mound to start the bottom of the seventh. He was quickly gone when Henderson hit the first pitch he saw for a triple. Travis Krogman replaced Kawamoto, and got a 1-2 count on Hill before he tripled. Both hits went into the right-field corner. Hill later gave the Grapplers the lead when he scored on a one-out fly ball hit by Jesus Barrios. Segoviano worked six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He was followed by three relievers -- Mike Boone, Victor Ortiz and Evan Palmer -- who all pitched a scoreless inning. That earned Ortiz (3-0) the win, and Palmer his eighth save of the season. |

Down 2-0, St. Louis took charge with a four run top of the third inning, and the River Walkers went on to defeat Cedar Rapids 5-3 at Connie Mack Stadium (1960).
