The St. Louis Cardinals have come to an agreement on a two-year extension with catcher Jose Trevino.
Acquired via trade in the off-season from Miami, the 33-year-old Trevino has hit .278 with five home runs and 23 RBIs in 62 games/61 starts.
He also is considered one of the top defensive catchers in the game.
The contract is worth $3.4 million each season.
St. Louis can buy out the 2028 season for $750,000.

Player of the Month: Gavin Cross -- The 25-year-old rookie outfielder hit .244 with seven home runs, 19 RBIs and 13 runs scored in 25 games. He got on base at a .297 clip and slugged .567.
Starting Pitcher of the Month: Eric Jokisch --The 36-year-old right-hander was 0-1 in five starts with a 3.86 ERA. He pitched 28.0 innings, during which he struck out 22 and posted a 1.39 WHIP.
Relief Pitcher of the Month: Sandi Charle -- The 23-year-old right-hander got into eight games going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA. He pitched 12.0 innings, during which he struck out 17 and had a 0.67 WHIP.

The St. Louis Cardinals have called up right-handed pitcher Josue Panacaul from AAA Memphis. He will replace Pedro Lopez in the team's starting rotation.
Acquired from the New York Yankees in a June trade for Jazz Chisholm. Panacual, 24, has made two starts at AAA Memphis going 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA.
Before the trade, Panacual had spent time with both the Yankees and their AAA team in Scranton.
With the Yankees, Panacual had gone 2-2 in five starts with a 5.02 ERA.
For his career, he has made 55 starts in the majors and gone 20-21 with a 4.38 ERA.
A year ago, Lopez, 30, had gone 10-12 with a 3.82 ERA in his first season in St. Louis.
But in 16 starts this season, Lopez owns a 4-6 mark with a 6.23 ERA.
To make room for Panacual on the St. Louis roster, right-handed reliever Stephen Reddings has been sent to AAA.
In 19 games with the Cardinals, Reddings, 30, has gone 0-0 with a 3.14 ERA in 2026.
